or she puts them over her ears so she looks like...you know...Micky Mouse

Minnie Mouse surely, honestly.. get in character!

Do you hate the earthquake and tsunami that wipe out thousands of people, including many of your friends and family?  No; you'll grieve about it, and you'll take steps to be ready so something like that doesn't happen again, but you can't hate the event, because it's a force of nature.  It's unthinking, unfeeling, and will occur whether someone is in its way or not.

Now if you see your friends and family executed by someone with a gun... the shooter, you can hate.  There is a deliberate act with reasoning and malice behind it.  Even if it were a robot made to look like a human that was simply carrying out a program, you now have a face behind it that appears to act with malicious intent, and you will hate that.

The Reapers up to this point were a force of nature.  They were quite literally unfeeling, they occured like some kind of stellar event or the insurance companies' ever-reliable Act of God, they were a faceless threat you couldn't really do anything about except try to prepare and survive.  You can fight them but you can't hate them.

The Reaper that blew up the shuttles was, in human perception, acting with deliberate malice to destroy innocent lives, including children.  That is easy to hate.  It's almost a reflex.  It's a simple emotional response, and emotion is more powerful than reason.

No it wasn't. It's a machine, incapable of malice. It is just part of your tsunami analogy having taken out a house you could see from your hotel balcony. Minutes after you saw a child's scared face in the window of that house. Do you hate that tsunami any more or less after you've seen the house swept under water?

It's human perception, as I mentioned.  The Reaper moves on its own, targets on its own, obviously has a mind of its own, and employs weaponry in the same manner that an organic sentient being would employ it.  It is intelligent and self-motivated, and even though there may not be malice behind its actions, we as humans anthropomorphize anything that acts even remotely like ourselves, from dogs to dolphins.  An earthquake can't think; a Reaper can.  Therefore, we ascribe human motives to the Reaper.

So yes.  It's perfectly reasonable (or unreasonable, as the case may be) to hate the Reaper, and ascribe to its actions malice aforethought, even if it is merely acting on its own programming.  It's human nature.

Even if that were the case, I don't think that is the defining moment of Shepard's hatred towards the Reapers. As others have mentioned, meeting Sovereign on Virmire, speaking to an indoctrinated Saren and then losing a friend/LI due to what Shepard now knew was one Reaper's machinations should have galvanized Shepard's hatred already. If anything, the child (cheap stunt anyway BioWare) would only have re-affirmed that hatred.

Anyway, we're not going to convince each other, so let me offer:

Wat? Not sure if serious. Can't answer for that anyway, I have zero cup size knowledge.

It's the same size as every other female Shepard.

Good point. :P

There is a way to use Texmod. I explained it a page back

Let me start by saying thank you, krayzi for figuring out the TexMod. :wizard:

And with the help of ever-awesome ELE I now have screens of a proper ME3 version of Lia - for those of you who don't believe eye intensity matters - I say FEH :innocent:

But of course there will be further tweaking in the final CC. We all know it :D

And just got Ellen through the demo (she really loves the Nova+Charge combo) - in getting her facecode into ME3, however, I noticed something that I hadn't before.... I really no longer like her old "Sexy" hairstyle. Here's how she looked in ME2:

I can't quite explain why exactly, but I just really don't care for the ME3 update to the Sexy hairstyle (part of it might be due to the mirroring of the part of the hair, yet there's something else about the ME3 version that seems "off" somehow).

So rather than keep her old hairstyle... I decided to give her a haircut:

From side it looks a lot different and it is different shape. Hmm... I guess I have to wait 'till the retail version to be certain.

all the eyeshapes look different in ME3 demo :( for one - they looks kinda.. bigger, the eye lashes are weird too. I'm hoping that ME3 imports will go by ME2 vectors and will looks closer to originals then just trying to redesign face codes.

Keep those gorgeous FemSheps coming, people! :) Adneate, I love Danielle's new hair--it suits her features perfectly, but once you used the TexMod she went from attractive to stunning! Quaay, I love that brunette! Demonhoopa, your FemShep is definitely one of the ones that the new CC was kind to; like my Trish, she looks better than ever in ME3. Rani too, Ieldra! :)

Seriously, the red and blonde hair colors look SO much better this time around. Can't wait for the finished CC!

@Liesel12--that log was really nice to read; thank you. :)

*suspicious look* How did YOU know I'm a blusher? I have pink cheeks to begin with, and when I'm embarrassed they light up like Christmas bulbs!

Thank you; I'm glad you like my Andy. :) That's pretty much what I was going for! I think, aside from the default's hair, her original poster look was a little bit like that.

Hmm... we must have PICS! Many of us FemShep lovers could appreciate a hypersexualized ManShep. *eyebrow waggle*

That reminds me. I've been pining for male "dancers" ever since Chora's Den. Humans and/or drell would be nice. C'mon, Bioware, make my dream come true at last! If we're going to be exploitative, let's be equal-opportunity about it, right? Right?

I'm just kidding. I know they never will. :pinched::crying: *sigh*

Demonhoopa wrote...

What I saw was Shepard simply feeling grief, pain and sadness watching that little kid get vaporized while she could only stand by, a helpless spectator (not a comfortable scenario for her I'd imagine).

I agree entirely. That's what I saw on her face as well. I loved that terrible moment. I hope there are many more of them to come.

Jane Shepard wrote...

I have a FemShep question... even maybe two questions.
1) What did your FemShep feel when she saw that little boy?
and
2) What did she feel when she left Earth?

This is for Eowyn (Paragade):

1. She felt a poignant sense of inevitability. Part of her knew from her own background that if he lived, his life would still never be the same. Growing up in the time of the Reapers is extraordinarily unlucky... assuming you even get to grow up.

2. Anger and sadness. Not even against the Reapers--she blames the Council for their inaction more than anything else. All those colonies dying... it's even worse than what happened to her as a Mindoir kid, in her mind, because there's not much of a chance of survivors to go on and mourn the others and rebuild. No healing like she found with Talitha.

Eowyn HATES bureaucrats. She's not unreasonable, but she does hold the Council accountable for not even letting her investigate the threats out there. Oddly enough, she has sympathy for The Illusive Man because even though his methods were unacceptable and he's a manipulative bastard, he was trying to do *something*. The Council, on the other hand... to her, they are all the worst of life--a false veneer of morality and reason, extreme authority, skepticism of those who try their best and naivete towards every piece of evidence that isn't directly and repeatedly smacking them in the face. No imagination except when it comes to their own interests; incredible confirmation bias, no self-awareness whatsoever.

So she felt emptiness, because she knew she'd been right all along... and it was useless, that knowledge, as she'd always known it would be. Being right but powerless is an incredibly hollow feeling. The best she can do is use losses like those to fuel her anger, and her determination.

*giggling excitedly* Okay, now I have to break my in-character thinking, because I'm imagining how much fun it's going to be to go apespit on the Council at last! I don't think she'll use a single Paragon option for the Asari, and certainly not for the Turian. The Salarian was young and his species is super-traditional, and he was the least awful, probably swayed by the others a lot in decision-making. Males don't often go into politics, so his position probably wasn't all that desirable. But those other two... they would have to not eat their words, but devour them with extreme prejudice for her to feel any urge to let up. I hope we get lots of tasty "this is mostly your fault, and here is a rational outline as to why, not that understanding what you did would ever excuse it" options.

It's one thing to be scared. It's one thing to be hesitant to waste resources. But the Council did much, much worse than that with their stubborn refusals to investigate anything or use logic in any way, and she's been wanting to call them on it for years. Nothing she hates more than stubborn inaction from the sole people in the galaxy who have the most power to act.

There's only one theory I have which makes me think she might relent and feel pity for them, but I don't want to talk about that here because it could end up being a large-ish spoiler, depending on how ME3 plays out.

Just the other day I was finishing my "Fiona" playthrough and my wife walks in and goes "Do you fantasize about these girls?"

Demon: "Uh.......no. You're hotter" (True actually)

Mrs Demon: "Why are you always playing a girl?"

Demon: "Superior voice acting and better character creation".

Reapers :     Sounds like this is pretty personal for you.
K. Shepard : You raided my homeworld today and killed thousands of my people. One of them was a boy I was trying to help a few minutes ago. So yes, it's pretty damn personal..

The boy, for me, just represents all people in the galaxy that no matter how hard Shep tries, she just couldn't save them all. There's always casualties in a war. So yes, as Shep said, I'm gonna fight for the ones that live when this is all over.

P.S. I just got my 'Art of Mass Effect Universe' today though. Good stuff. :D

He was playing his ME2 femshep run. Also, he was making sure the preschooler stayed in bed.

And I DID  make Valentine cookies. But no, he isn't quite the fan I am. More's the pity.

After Mrs Kyrene started having Allistair and Zevran running around Ferelden in modded loincloths while her female mages killed everything in sight with uber modded spellfire (so that the boys were just there for eyecandy, even during the fights), I could pretty much dress my femShep in two buttons and a bootlace and not be frowned upon.

I applaud your quick thinking though, even if that spur of the moment pseudo-feminism didn't work.

I wonder if they should make a poll on how many Renegade Femsheps there are versus how many Paragon Femsheps there are.
Some of the Renegade lines in Mass Effect 2 really fit the Femshep more, and there are some Renegade interrupts that were only available to Femshep. (No spoilers).
