Two great Tracks I think

What can you deduce from that?
Female, and even male players are more interested by Femshep, because it is really something. I saw many guys more excited about femshep than maleshep.
Don't get me wrong, I love maleshep, and I am proud of it, but that doesn't prevent me to notice that with Femshep, it is different. I analyze, that's all.
Otherwise,I noticed what you've done AD legend and Ottemis, I did think, It was a good idea yesterday.
Thats because FemShep is more of a novelty, primarily due to being female in what is considered a man's profession. Even Bioware (as well as the FemShep fans) regards FemShep as such, although they may not be consciously aware of it. Just look at how different she looks compared to MaleShep (in terms of age and weariness), and the emphasis thats placed on her appearance (by Bioware and fans a like).
MaleShep looks like he's been through hell, while FemShep looks like she just stepped off a runway.
And thats ultimately why FemShep cannot be taken seriously; at least to me.
For MaleShep, it's the exact opposite as he looks like a hardened soldier.......but he's Space Marine # 6104, so there's nothing to get excited about regarding his personal character. I always play iconic Shepard, but I will never be caught dead in a thread dedicated to him because he's generic.
If Bioware had gone more a long the route of say Geralt of Rivia (or the Nameless One) with Shepard, then he would be a more exciting character. But you can't really make a character like that without making him a fixed character thats NOT open to interpretation.

That pretty much sums it up. I couldn't make custom male Shepard that was pleasing to me but I'm very happy how my femShep turned out. It does make a difference in terms of bonding since default male Shep just feel more distant than custom Shepard.Ottemis wrote...
It seems that the femshep community is more active with flycam/modding and screenshotting then the maleshep community is (as far as the two don't cross over), the same discussions can be had, but with less sharing of characters. I could be wrong, it's just the feeling i've always gotten.BatmanPWNS wrote...
Why does this thread have double the amount of pages of MaleShep? Hmmmm, maybe it's cuz UglyShep's is easier to make as a male.Alot of males play femshep, and females play maleshep, it's not a strict devision by any measure.Sylvianus wrote...
@Batman : Femshep is an icon for many female gamers. Maleshep is just another guy from one video game among other ones. That's why many male gamers don't care about Maleshep topics in general. Or at least, they are much less interested. I must admit that it is my case. That doesn't mean I don't like maleshep however.
It might have helped had maleshep gotten an equal amount of customisation options aswell. Asmuch as I respect people's decission in choosing a default look, a custom look promotes character building and bonding, and increases the likelyhood of wanting to share your Shep's story, because it's distinctly different from other people's Shepards.
Also the fact that femShep isn't the usual silicon babe made it worthy and believable alternative, equal. Thus she ended up being my "the Shepard".

May I point out that LOOKS are entirely a marketing thing? The whole point is you can make shep look however you want. Ask and ye shall recieve about a dozen pics of femsheps that "look like they've been through hell" instead of stepping off a runway.
And we're talking dudeshep here, who was modeled after...a MODEL.
Y'all are welcome to like or not like playing Shepard as woman, as a man, as gay, straight, paragon, renegade, a pot-smoking hippie, or however you want to play it. But please don't confuse default FemShep with FemShep. One is a pretty face for marketing; one is the savior of the galaxy, twice. If you want to use the pretty face FOR the galactic savior, fine, just don't think the two must go together.

That’s why. It’s not one thing, novelty, CC, voice, her being female or whatever. It’s all of that and more. While she is not for everyone, to many she is lightening in a bottle. She just clicked. The voice of Jennifer Hale combined w/ the story combined w/ the CC combined w/ a drought of superior female protagonists combined w/ the gameplay combined w/ etc, etc, etc. It’s a combination of things and everyone who likes her has their own reasons. There is not one reason she is special, but if there was it is because Femshep is magic.

You can change her face, but her overall build remains the same. FemShep has a scrawny neck and her arms are like wet noodles for instance, which makes her look less than capable.

What does that have to do with anything? You think there are no handsome men in the Military? Lots of male models are in fact, ex military.

Dude, I can assure you that most military people are pretty far from body builders. Granted, my military rank is only recruit (and thank God for that, no effin' military refresher courses) but I did not spot any (or many) body builder there. Females looked just normal body build vice too.Unbannable wrote...

It depends on the outfit (body model) she's wearing, also how wide you make her neck in the CC.
And may I point out, muscles do not a soldier make. There are many guys with big muscles who cannot do a thing with them and many a woman who is deceptively slender who could break a person in half. Just check out the CrossFit challenges for women who can benchpress more than a guy's bodyweight. They are rarely bulky.

Um....
I was responding to this:

You were just saying maleshep looks like a tough, been-through-hell guy, but femshep looks like she stepped off a runway (looks like a model) so you can't take her seriously. I concluded that you felt she could not be taken seriously because she looked like a model. I then pointed out that Sheploo looks like a model. He looks like he's been through hell, but he looks like a mode who has been through hell. I was suggesting that femshep could also look like a model who is a soldier and gone through hell.
But what you're saying is you can take model-soldiers seriously if they're male models? So we can only take a soldier seriously if they are male?
I do hope I'm misunderstanding that.
Anyhow, my point is this: FemShep is customizable for a reason. and most of the major femshep fans custom create her.
FemShep, as Jamie pointed out, just clicked for a lot of us fans. The voice acting, the writing, the fact that she's a soldier first and isn't defined by her gender somehow just came together to create this powerhouse of an action hero. It's not what everyone likes, but to those of us here, It just clicked.

I don't mean to argue for SageQueen but if I may offer my opinion on this; as far as looks go yes he is based on a model. And to me, his looks are an excellent example of masculinity. It just so happens that yes, that does make him look like a hardened soldier as well. The default femshep on the other hand has a very feminie look to her which does not equate to a very soldier-y look for some people. However, I see this as a part of the game as a work of fiction. Most fantasy/sci-fi/myths/whatever have a hero whose looks are a prime example of his/her gender. So why should Mass Effect be different? I don't mean this in a bad way, quite the opposite. Mass Effect is shaping up to be one of the most fantastic sci-fi video games, if not just sci-fi works, ever. So just like all the rest, yeah the cast is going to be attractive.

This is how I choose to see the whole marketing thing, basically.
“Did you know they used you in recruitment ads? You were like, human ideal for six months. Then they replaced you with a composite image they invented. I guess you didn’t focus test right. The perfect example of humanity and they still dumped you.”

Not necessarily an action-y trailer but I always thought it would be cool if they did a "World of Mass Effect" video with this song: www.youtube.com/watch
Just listen to it, ignore the video itself, I was hoping to find a video of the song without a slideshow but what can you do.

@Eshaye,
You are right from what I hear. I've been hiding from spoilers like mad, (SO PLEASE PLEASE DON'T TELL ME ABOUT THIS!!!) But from what I hear, there is something that happens between the VS and Shepard on Mars. Mars is one of the early mission in ME3. Something like Earth>Mars>Citadel. On Mars (SPOILER) happens and depending on how Shepard threated the VS in ME1 and ME2 (Romantic in ME1, cheated on them, or just a plan jerk) the relationship will change to reflect that. Supposedly and in my case what happens is something that makes Kaidan realize that my Shepard is still the woman he knew. Hu-freaking-zzah.

I think the majority of gamers which played ME, never used the BSN. So you should consider this if you try to analyse something. In my opinion, the threads only show how much people posted, nothing more.
The same goes for all the polls in forums, they are never a replacement for real data from all the players and not only from the people who use the forum.
But in the end I think all the credit belongs to the VA. I have a lot of old games without Storys and without voice acting, so I never thought it would become important for me. But then I started SW:TOR and choose the sex of my characters only by the sound of the VA. Really interesting. ^^
So good job BW and now give me my femShep trailer already! I demand this.
