@raziel1980 -- Excellent! I really look forward to that, thanks!

@Yumi50 -- That makes sense. I remember taking too long in one of my games to do Zaeed's LM and was shocked when I didn't have enough paragon points to keep his loyalty since it hadn't been an issue in the past.

QwibQwib wrote...

Just reading this...you made smile xD! what about um the rachni, the geth and the base? did you give it to Cerberus?

=p
1. I let the rachni go. I liked how honest and upfront the queen was, saying that her children were lost and it was necessary to eliminate them. I tend to go easier on NPCs that give it to me straight up with no bull than those who are shifty or aren't giving me the whole story because I can respect that. Plus wiping out a whole race is a heavy, heavy choice to make. I figured if it was a bad one, she could come back to finish the job.

2. That was hard because I could have gone either way. They're just machines, right? I ultimately decided to destroy them in case they reverted back to their previous programming. They're just machines, right? Right? =p

3. The base: Oh, man. I really could see the argument for keeping it and likely would have, but there was just something not right about TIM. He had not been honest with Shepard the entire game and kept her on a "need to know" basis so I felt there were ulterior motives at work. If anyone else was asking for it, maybe, but with TIM, eeehhh. I ended up nuking it.

Awesome news on the ME3 cover!

Bolded 1: Sure Thing...I always make sure, I choose the renegade line there anyway...as the paragon line NEVER fits my shepard's tastes or feelings of RAGE towards Vasir...

Bolded 2:

1. rachni - I always save them fro the same reasons you do...because of her honesty...that simply is all my sheps ever ask for in both games that people be honest and they( she or he) can smell B.S. a mile away!

2. I go either or on this as well...most times I keep it...other times I destroy it...sorta depends on how my sheps feel about AIs overall...as that personality with them changes from the beginning of the game when they first meet EDI again...

3. I destrot the base EVERY SINGLE TIME...because My shepard and I DESPISE TIM( at that point we call him TIF( The Illusive Fail) ) and everything Cerberus stands for, outside of the members of the crew as they have shown their loyalty to me and the mission;

Other notes... Today/Tonight I will be doing LoSB( and posting screenies) for Allison's run...and once I'm finished with her playthrough( which will be this week). I will post a character bio for all 6 of my femsheps... :D

Journal Entry #1.

Looks like it’s time to start up my journal again. With the crazy recent events, Dr Chakwas recommended I do it to help “vent all the pressure I’m under” (cry me a fu**ing river).
Where to start? Well to quickly summarize and bring things up to the present, a Spectre (Nihlus) accompanying us on a shakedown run on Eden Prime was murdered by a rogue Spectre named Saren who has aligned himself with the Geth (more on that later). A good kid under my command was also killed by these little hovering Geth sh*t flies (I can tell this crew expects me to get them all killed because of Torfan. They probably think I don’t even care about Jenkins. Yes of course that hurts but……well f**k it).
Long story short I ended up adding 3 aliens to my crew while on the Citadel, The Council finally pulled their heads out of their collective a** and revoked Saren’s Spectre status (only after a Quarian, now part of my crew, provided concrete proof).

Oh by the way, I may have neglected to mention that the Council reluctantly made me a Spectre so I could go after Saren (they only gave me this “honor” because they don’t have the balls to go into the Terminus and get him themselves. I don’t give a red f**k, as long as it helps get the job done).

Hey, did I mention that Saren and the Geth are working for an ancient race of machines that destroyed the Protheans 50,000 years ago? Or that I was given the Normandy and Capt Anderson was put out to pasture? Or that this patchwork crew and I have to defeat not only Saren and the Geth, but the aforementioned race of machines to prevent all intelligent life in the entire galaxy from being wiped out?

Good times.

Anyway that’s the readers digest version of the recent circus.
The council provided some possible leads, one of which we’re on our way to checking out on Feros. We’re walking into a sh*tstorm of galactic proportions so I have to somehow mold this crew into a cohesive elite force in short order if we’re to have any chance. We’ve picked up 4 new members, the three aforementioned aliens (I can actually see the smoke coming out of Pressly’s ears) and a marine, Gunnery Chief Ashley Williams. She’s tough and cool under fire (if her performance on Eden Prime is any indication). Question is, is there room for two type A hard a** b**ches on the same ship? Hopefully it won’t be a problem. I kind of like her and would hate to have to toss her out the airlock. Kidding!
Kind of.

That’s enough for today, need to get some fricken sleep. I feel like I got hit by a bus……..twice.

Any chance we can just blow this off and go to Hawaii? Didn’t think so.

Sh*t biscuits.

On a scale of 1 to 10 how well do yall think my Femshep imported into the demo?
Bioware said the demo lacked any HD textures and some hairstyles but what of additional hairstyles/presets?

What about Femshep 4?
Posted Image
Is she a preset or did we miss out on the longest hairstyle we have seen Femshep with because of a vote?

I'm not much of a screen shot person, so no action shots but I've enjoyed looking through everyone's FemSheps so thought I should at least share what I can.

Presenting Anastasia Shepard, Soldier, Paragon, Hero, Spacer and faithful lover of a certain blue chick. The very first character I created in ME and will be the first one to finish the story.

Huh... Two discs? I thought that it was supposed to come in one. Well that's a good thing! Less stuff ruined by compression I hope. It's nice to see that femSeep is there too, even though she's hiding behind the disc. That flips thing is really, really clever.

Probably to save money, while allowing people to have their own preferred cover. That way, you don't have untouched copies because of a cover, since this isn't like Pokemon Red or Blue.

Makes me wonder if they'll be doing this for their other games.

Making the FemShep Trailer

Today is #FemShepFriday. Beyond being a day dedicated to the lady version of Commander Shepard and her new trailer “Reinstated”, it is really a day celebrating the community. As I read glowing comments in the forums and excited tweets to help get us trending (we did it in US and Canada! Well done guys!), I noticed today was a day that brought many people together.

We discussed what makes us fans and what things made us love Mass Effect in the first place. True community is about togetherness and solidarity, and when that happens, it really is a glorious thing to be part of. I can’t describe the feeling, but it’s inspiring. No matter who our Commander Shepards are, or what aspects of the game we love the most, we’re all fans of Mass Effect!

I sat down with our post production supervisor Neel Upadhye who spearheads our trailers with his team of filmmakers and artists. A lot of people in the marketing and development teams have been working very closely on this trailer featuring female Shepard, and we have been waiting months to share it. Check out what Neel had to say!

Who are you and what do you do at BioWare?

My name’s Neel Upadhye, and I lead the team behind the trailers for Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and Command & Conquer. I manage the talents of editors Tanner Boyajian and Deji Oduntan; our motion graphics artist, Chase Boyajian; and finally, our sound designer, Charley Stauber. Since we work remotely, we are affectionately known as “BioWare LA” within the company.

Can you tell us a bit about your background?

I’m from India and I traveled a lot as a kid. I finally set my roots down in Los Angeles when I attended the USC School of Cinematic Arts. I love storytelling in all its forms, especially film. It takes the best of all the popular arts that came before it – fine art, music, theater – and melds them together. There are few things better than a well-told story. As a filmmaker who gets to work in video games, I feel truly blessed to be with a studio that strives to tell some of the most cinematic stories available in ANY medium.

This is the first we’re seeing the new canon FemShep based on our community votes last summer. What was the thought process going into making this trailer?

Fans have been asking for a FemShep trailer for a long time so we realized that expectations would be high. As fans of the games ourselves, we wanted to do something that would excite people who know this universe. What makes people so jazzed about Mass Effect is that beyond the galactic war, you care about the characters. That’s how we came to the decision to make this a cameo trailer. We tried to fit in glimpses of some of the people you’ve fought with side by side. I knew that if I was a fan and I saw a few frames of my romance option from ME2, I would freeze the video going “WHOA wait, is that who I think it was??!” That’s the effect we wanted this trailer to have. If “Fall of Earth,” our E3 trailer, was for people joining the fight, “Reinstated” is for those who’ve been there.

Female Shepard’s portrayed here is a bit of a renegade. Why?

Jennifer Hale’s voice performance as Shepard is terrific, especially in her more bad-ass moments. We thought it would be fun to make FemShep a counter to the goody two-shoes male Shepard who wants to save the day Luke Skywalker style. It’s more than just that, however. As players of the series know, Shepard is who you make him/her out to be. It’s your story. As such, Mark Meer (voice of Male Shepard) and Jennifer Hale are faced with the challenge of constructing a ”kaleidoscope” of all that a war hero could be. I hope this trailer pays tribute to their hard work by showing a slightly different angle on the character. On a personal note, ever since day one on this game, I’ve been dying to make a trailer about how renegade Shepard gets his/her rank stripped away and then has to claim it back. I swear I tried to shoe-horn the line “Consider yourself reinstated, Commander!” into at least 3 other trailers. Finally, I got to scratch that itch

What are some challenges in making video game trailers?

From a technical standpoint, the hardest thing about our job is making trailers for a game that’s not finished. It’s like laying the tracks down in front of the train as it comes barreling at you. Sometimes you want to highlight a certain moment or use a certain line and the level just isn’t ready. That’s when you have to get really creative. From an artistic side, trailer editing is the art of the short film perfected. You have 90, or sometimes as little as 15 seconds to tell a story. You have to get it across quick, cool, and clear. Unlike most movies that cut two or three trailers from 2 hours of footage, we cut closer to 10 to 20 videos from 60 hours of footage. That gives us a lot of choice, which makes things fun. Sometimes my job’s more akin to directing an animated film rather than cutting a trailer. We at the studio have versions of the game that can run in slow motion, swap out models, animate amazing camera moves, break physics, etc. If I’m missing something in my cut, I can ask Tanner Boyajian to jump into the game, and shoot me footage of exactly what I need. He’s captured gameplay shots that are as sexy as some of the best cinematics in the game. It’s quite a skill!

What aspect of Shepard do you like the most?

Shepard’s a leader that was tried by fire. He/She’s had to make a lot of tough decisions, but no matter how strongly you stand behind him/her, there’s always that nagging guilt. In this game, some of those choices from the past start haunting Shepard. It’s great to see that human side start peeking through. I heard Jessica Chobot say once that Female Shepard was the only female protagonist in any video game she’s played that felt like she could be an actual person – not a caricature, but a real, authentic, and strong person. That’s a real testament to Mac Walter’s writing team, the amazing direction by Casey Hudson and Caroline Livingstone, and of course, the performance by Jennifer Hale.

What inspires you in your work?

The deadlines in marketing are always crazy, but it keeps things exciting. Our team is incredibly talented and motivated. When Chase Boyajian created that Collector’s Edition trailer, we saw a comment on the forums that said “I would buy clothespins if they had ads this cool!” Those kinds of moments are always nice. It’s also nice to see how my team keeps getting better and better at what we do. Back on Dragon Age: Origins, I was a one man team, and that’s just not a good way to work. For example, there’s just no way I’ll ever be as good a sound designer as Charley Stauber. Having a team with diverse skill sets is crucial to putting out good work. It also helps that these guys are just frickin’ great guys. We have a lot of late nights, but we also have a lot of laughs. If you’re ever at E3, Comic-Con, Gamescom, or wherever else we do our BioWare TV shows, come say “Hi!” Feel free to chat with me on twitter @neelreel and join playing some multiplayer, March 6th. Later folks!

Thanks so much Neel and team! We love the trailer and hope the community does too.

I should go.

Journal Entry #2

Feros: Garden spot of the galaxy. What a hole.

Anyway, we arrived to find the colonists in a real bad way. Having been constantly under siege by the Geth, they were understandably rattled but I still found the behavior of a few of them a bit weird, even under the circumstances. After getting a briefing from the leader (Faidan I believe his name was) and some mouthy security guard whose name I didn’t bother remembering, we found out that there were loads of Geth in the tunnels (and Varren) under the colony as well at the Exogeni headquarters.

After a quick sweep through the tunnels, Wrex, Ashley and I were able to take care of the Geth and the Varren in short order (We also were able to turn the water back on for the colony. What the hell, we were there anyway). Luckily there was a Mako in the Garage which we were able to drive across the skyway to Exogeni. It was just SWAMPED with Geth. Ashley did a good job ducking and dodging the Mako through the massive Geth clusterf**k while I tried to shoot stuff but I don’t think I hit much. We had literally no shields left by the time we made it across. I’ve never been so thankful for a boaty-a** Mako before. I’ll try to remember that next time I have to drive one of those pieces of sh**.

Sometime during all this fun and hijinx we heard radio chatter from what sounded like some civilians in trouble. Ashley wanted to stop but Wrex and I overruled her as the mission had priority. Shortly after we made it to our destination (and after another quick firefight) I was nearly shot by a scared employee. I’m not gonna lie, that startled the crap out of me. Thank goodness I was able to mask it (I don’t fancy hearing about it from Wrex over and over again). She was helpful enough, gave us her access card but I felt like she was holding something back. I was able to find out from a VI that Exogeni was housing an alien plant life form under the flippin colony in some kind of test using the colonists as guinea pigs. Lovely. Anyway, we had to kill a bunch of Geth and crash the ship they had attached to the structure to regain control of the facility and get our communications back. Joker informed us the colonist had all gone Zombie Apocalypse and were trying to get into the Normandy. So we grabbed the scared employee (Lisbeth the effing liar) and jumped in the Mako to head back to the colony (and play more dodgeball with the Geth on the skyway).

Shortly after making it across, we hear the radio chatter again and Lisbeth starts freaking out about “her mom”. After she scrambled out of the Mako, I decided to follow her (against my better judgment). We happen on to a scene where her mom was being mildly manhandled by some weasel corporate bureaucrat mouthpiece a**hole. Long story short, he was cracking under the pressure of the situation, freaked out more when he found out I knew about the Thorian (the alien plant thing) and couldn’t be reasoned with.

In short, he was a danger to the mission so I had to shoot him in the face.

Lisbeth’s mom practically begged me not to hurt any of the “Zombie Apocalypse” colonists and offered a nerve gas that should incapacitate them because of they’re weakened state but not harm us. To say that sounded thin to me would be an understatement. If I’m being honest, that idea sounded risky at best and galactically STUPID at worst. But I could see Ash’s puppy dog eyes in my peripheral vision so I gave in and took the fricken nerve gas grenade attachment. But I didn’t make any promises.

So after more fun and games on another section of skyway, we arrived at the garage entrance to find some weird humanoid abominations that I guess used to be colonists? They charged the Mako but were cut down in short order. After that crazy horror movie sh** I told Wrex and Ash to shoot everything that moves. More puppy dog eyes from Ashley: “What about the nerve gas”. Great. “Fine but don’t take ANY chances’.

There were a few security guards at the garage exit that opened fire on us but the gas grenade worked like a charm. See? I’m not a monster. We fought our way back to the colony gassing colonists and shooting the Zombie human abomination things. There was a pretty significant firefight once we arrived at the colony (by firefight I mean colonists shooting at us while we hide in cover). After I used up the last of my gas grenades, there were about three armed colonists left firing on us. Ash and Wrex were arguing, she wanted to rush them and knock them out. Wrex wanted to put them down.

My shields are pretty damn good but purposely running through gunfire to pistol whip three people? Uh…….no. So while Wrex and Ashley argued, I pulled out my sniper rifle and lowered the colony population by 3. No I didn’t enjoy it but I can’t jeopardize the mission and my crew members because of some sick experiments by those f**ksticks at Exogeni (I am really not liking them).

So after all that drama (culminating with Faidan shooting himself), we found the secret entrance to where the Thorian was being housed under the colony. I could not believe the size of this plant. It was like a two story house for crying out loud. Then this grotesque plant “births” an Asari (a damn powerful one) and we find ourselves in a pretty hairy firefight with those abomination things and this armed Asari with some uber biotics. Problem is each time we kill her a**, the damn Thorian would give birth and she’d be back. I mean, are you f**king kidding me?

So after shredding through countless hordes of those things and killing this Asari over and over again, we finally manage to kill the Thorian which puts and end to everything. Well almost. After the Thorian’s death, the Asari plopped out again in disgusting fashion but this time she seemed to have come back to herself.

The short version, she worked for Matriarch Benezia (I haven’t gotten to her yet) who is allied with Saren. Saren gave her to the Thorian in exchange for something. Apparently the Thorian has been around since the Protheans and understands the “essence” of their race. The Asari (Shiala her name was) explained that Saren betrayed it once he had what he wanted. Out of concern that I would show up and get said information (it’s called “The Cypher”). Anyway, Shiala willingly gave me the Cypher (Someone lied. Embracing Eternity is not fun. Frankly that sucked) and did everything she could to help and cooperate. She informed us that Saren has a ship, Sovereign, that brainwashes (or indoctrinates) anyone who’s around it for too long. That’s what happened to her and Benezia apparently.

I kind of felt bad for Shiala. If she is to be believed, she and Benezia went into this with the best intentions.

I made sure her end was painless.

Okay that’s enough for now. I need some alone time, preferably with an alcoholic beverage or five. This has been one sh*tty day.

Yaaaaaay for the unboxing!

I'm going to stalk the mailman on the 6th.... no classes that day, so I WILL be up brigt and early checking every hour on the hour....

Sadly only Teddy's run is done... spent waaaaaaaaaaaay to much time on MP then my other ME2 import files....

After the SW:TOR and BF3 waiting fiasco, wanted to be sure that it is not going to happen again. Bought the DDE version. No waiting, no toys but other than that exactly the same. It had nice regional preorder bonus for us Finns: you get all possible preorder guns and armour.

This is SO awesome.

And heck, it makes SO MUCH SENSE!

I hope they do this for all future BioWare games. DudeHero on one side, FemHero on other. Simple, effective, clear branding.
