Journal Entry #2
Feros: Garden spot of the galaxy. What a hole.
Anyway, we arrived to find the colonists in a real bad way. Having been constantly under siege by the Geth, they were understandably rattled but I still found the behavior of a few of them a bit weird, even under the circumstances. After getting a briefing from the leader (Faidan I believe his name was) and some mouthy security guard whose name I didn’t bother remembering, we found out that there were loads of Geth in the tunnels (and Varren) under the colony as well at the Exogeni headquarters.
After a quick sweep through the tunnels, Wrex, Ashley and I were able to take care of the Geth and the Varren in short order (We also were able to turn the water back on for the colony. What the hell, we were there anyway). Luckily there was a Mako in the Garage which we were able to drive across the skyway to Exogeni. It was just SWAMPED with Geth. Ashley did a good job ducking and dodging the Mako through the massive Geth clusterf**k while I tried to shoot stuff but I don’t think I hit much. We had literally no shields left by the time we made it across. I’ve never been so thankful for a boaty-a** Mako before. I’ll try to remember that next time I have to drive one of those pieces of sh**.
Sometime during all this fun and hijinx we heard radio chatter from what sounded like some civilians in trouble. Ashley wanted to stop but Wrex and I overruled her as the mission had priority. Shortly after we made it to our destination (and after another quick firefight) I was nearly shot by a scared employee. I’m not gonna lie, that startled the crap out of me. Thank goodness I was able to mask it (I don’t fancy hearing about it from Wrex over and over again). She was helpful enough, gave us her access card but I felt like she was holding something back. I was able to find out from a VI that Exogeni was housing an alien plant life form under the flippin colony in some kind of test using the colonists as guinea pigs. Lovely. Anyway, we had to kill a bunch of Geth and crash the ship they had attached to the structure to regain control of the facility and get our communications back. Joker informed us the colonist had all gone Zombie Apocalypse and were trying to get into the Normandy. So we grabbed the scared employee (Lisbeth the effing liar) and jumped in the Mako to head back to the colony (and play more dodgeball with the Geth on the skyway).
Shortly after making it across, we hear the radio chatter again and Lisbeth starts freaking out about “her mom”. After she scrambled out of the Mako, I decided to follow her (against my better judgment). We happen on to a scene where her mom was being mildly manhandled by some weasel corporate bureaucrat mouthpiece a**hole. Long story short, he was cracking under the pressure of the situation, freaked out more when he found out I knew about the Thorian (the alien plant thing) and couldn’t be reasoned with.
In short, he was a danger to the mission so I had to shoot him in the face.
Lisbeth’s mom practically begged me not to hurt any of the “Zombie Apocalypse” colonists and offered a nerve gas that should incapacitate them because of they’re weakened state but not harm us. To say that sounded thin to me would be an understatement. If I’m being honest, that idea sounded risky at best and galactically STUPID at worst. But I could see Ash’s puppy dog eyes in my peripheral vision so I gave in and took the fricken nerve gas grenade attachment. But I didn’t make any promises.
So after more fun and games on another section of skyway, we arrived at the garage entrance to find some weird humanoid abominations that I guess used to be colonists? They charged the Mako but were cut down in short order. After that crazy horror movie sh** I told Wrex and Ash to shoot everything that moves. More puppy dog eyes from Ashley: “What about the nerve gas”. Great. “Fine but don’t take ANY chances’.
There were a few security guards at the garage exit that opened fire on us but the gas grenade worked like a charm. See? I’m not a monster. We fought our way back to the colony gassing colonists and shooting the Zombie human abomination things. There was a pretty significant firefight once we arrived at the colony (by firefight I mean colonists shooting at us while we hide in cover). After I used up the last of my gas grenades, there were about three armed colonists left firing on us. Ash and Wrex were arguing, she wanted to rush them and knock them out. Wrex wanted to put them down.
My shields are pretty damn good but purposely running through gunfire to pistol whip three people? Uh…….no. So while Wrex and Ashley argued, I pulled out my sniper rifle and lowered the colony population by 3. No I didn’t enjoy it but I can’t jeopardize the mission and my crew members because of some sick experiments by those f**ksticks at Exogeni (I am really not liking them).
So after all that drama (culminating with Faidan shooting himself), we found the secret entrance to where the Thorian was being housed under the colony. I could not believe the size of this plant. It was like a two story house for crying out loud. Then this grotesque plant “births” an Asari (a damn powerful one) and we find ourselves in a pretty hairy firefight with those abomination things and this armed Asari with some uber biotics. Problem is each time we kill her a**, the damn Thorian would give birth and she’d be back. I mean, are you f**king kidding me?
So after shredding through countless hordes of those things and killing this Asari over and over again, we finally manage to kill the Thorian which puts and end to everything. Well almost. After the Thorian’s death, the Asari plopped out again in disgusting fashion but this time she seemed to have come back to herself.
The short version, she worked for Matriarch Benezia (I haven’t gotten to her yet) who is allied with Saren. Saren gave her to the Thorian in exchange for something. Apparently the Thorian has been around since the Protheans and understands the “essence” of their race. The Asari (Shiala her name was) explained that Saren betrayed it once he had what he wanted. Out of concern that I would show up and get said information (it’s called “The Cypher”). Anyway, Shiala willingly gave me the Cypher (Someone lied. Embracing Eternity is not fun. Frankly that sucked) and did everything she could to help and cooperate. She informed us that Saren has a ship, Sovereign, that brainwashes (or indoctrinates) anyone who’s around it for too long. That’s what happened to her and Benezia apparently.
I kind of felt bad for Shiala. If she is to be believed, she and Benezia went into this with the best intentions.
I made sure her end was painless.
Okay that’s enough for now. I need some alone time, preferably with an alcoholic beverage or five. This has been one sh*tty day.
