I can't speak for inspirations other than my own. I based my canon off of myself, and i'm so white i'm about albino. my only alt (so far), i gave her more of the mixed-descent look that a lot of the characters had in ME1:
/snibbage
bah, and even though i gave her entirely different features, she STILL ended up looking a bit like kyrie. guess i'm just wired to make a certain type of face. (sigh) it was really hard to work with the features i wanted. the eyes (#3) and face shape (#9) and nose (#...2, i think) really didn't want to play together.
it's too bad flies_by_handles hasn't posted some of his/her sheps, because s/he has some of the most unique shepards i've yet seen. indra, nemain, and devi are my particular faves.
Face structure 9? Cool! She shares the same face structure with Tiia.
You know what... When you give me CC and task to make different Shepard from scratch, I will end up making the same Shepard all over again. Why? Well, maybe I just keep using the same features I find fitting...
When it comes to ethnic features and colours, I for some reason end up copying myself. I.e. white skin, brown (or -ish/dark wheat if that even is a colour) hair and blue(ish) eyes.
What exactly is a female soldier supposed to look like since we are so clearly uneducated?
I don't know, you tell me. Since there's no precedent for a female special forces soldier, I have no idea what one would look like.
I'm pretty sure she wouldn't look like FemShep though.
I don't care in the fact that I would rather have them focus on more important aspects of the game like: plot, combat, physics.
FemShep's physique has been the topic of many threads for as long as Mass Effect has been around. You may not care yourself, but plenty of other people do.
I can see this thread getting closed in perpetuating this endless conversation about what a soldier should be... frickin' quit it already, both of you.

@sage okay, didn't notice that, I just skimmed the Thread today... still too worked up about this new Trailer...
Yeah I can feel your fustration in your last couple of posts mate. Always seems to be set back after set back. Still im trying not to think about it too much and just focus on the positives. Such as at least getting a ME3 femshep thread where we can all get together! We will get there eventually and I am sure Bioware make it worth the wait, especially after all the "TLC" they said they are giving it
I knew you were going to bring up gymnasts, and other types that heft their own body weight. Hefting your own body weight doesn't classify as an act of strength to me though, because in the end, you're lifting your own body weight.
I mean, there's people that can do thousands of push ups consecutively, as their bodies have become so efficient at lifting it's own weight.
For someone to be considered strong, they must be capable of lifting more than their own body weight. In fact, the strongest creature on Earth, the Hercules beetle, can lift more than 800 times it's own weight.
muscle size and definition is secondary to strength. there's a reason why strength training is NOT the same as bodybuilding. granted, fitness competitors do both, but they specificaly have to train for strength in addition to training for size. and professional fitness competitors have to train and diet like crazy just to look like this
Are you telling me that muscle size has no relation to strength at all? Thats completely incorrect. A bigger muscle has more muscle fibers than a smaller one, and thus more potential strength as it's the muscle fibers which exert force.
There are other factors of course, like neuromuscular efficiency, that also impact strength.
And bodybuilding is different I agree, because they don't train primarily for strength. I never brought up bodybuilding not once in this entire debate btw, as it would be a bad example.
but back to my point. unless specificaly training for size and definition, a typical woman no matter how strong is not going to be particularely big, or particularely cut. and femshep? she'd be training for strength and endurance, not for size and/or definition. and if she just happens to naturaly be an ectomorph, gaining size would be a doubly uphill battle.
As I said before, the more weight you lift, the more muscle mass you pack on. Muscle size and muscle strength are not two separate factors.
Have you ever seen a skinny powerlifter? No, because powerlifters lift massive amounts of weight and so their bodies adapt by getting bigger and stronger.
And the main reason why women are limited when it comes to size and strength is because their testosterone levels are much lower than mens'.
in conclusion. femshep's size is perfectly beleivable, especialy when you concider that enhancements are done for future soldiers on regular basis.
Unless humans are completely different 200 years from now, FemShep's size and build would still be a limiting factor. Also those enhancements you speak of, don't necessarily improve human performance. From what I recall, they are more about getting rid of undesirable inherited traits.
in other words - your perceptions are completely and utterly skewed, and your expectations are unrealistic and far to influenced by the media.
The only expectation I had for FemShep, was that she look the part. But perhaps I'm being too hard on Bioware, as Western Society prefers it's women to look slender with big boobs and no muscle definition.
@Unbannable
Are you just trying to troll or is it something based on principle ?
Quit it already, this discussion benefits no one, and in the end the thread is just going to get closed by a mod who just sees the conflict going on.
That is not what anyone here wants, so maybe you should discuss this through Personal Messages.
Yaay... a trailer for a game-mode that the game should not have had in the first place...what a frickin' let-down.
That 's what they think sells well (multiplayer).
And by god I hate them for that... I simply don't want the CoD- or BF-Crowd pouring into "our" franchise.
Dude, it's connecting the fan base. I know I'm going to get alot more friendly with alot of you guys when we're blasting husks and cerberus goons as Special forces of all the species. Femshep's all "I can't kick all the ass, i have to leave some for the other people too!"

Looks like someone needs to see the episode of DS9 where a bunch of 1940s science fiction authors discuss how there's no precedent for a ****** commanding a space station, among other things. This is science fiction. The whole point is that there is no precedent!
Oh and that episode is called "Far Beyond the Stars."
Speaking of that trailer, and femshep, I was wondering if it that "Shepard gives them all a speech before they go run off and suicide themselves" part is going to feature in singleplayer, or if it's going to be at the start of a multiplayer game/campaign/however-they-organise-the-maps.
'Cause, y'know, where's my rousing Femshep speech if it's the latter.

I couldn't have said this any better myself!
That's a great idea but there's a price to pay: just look at C.O.D. singleplayer!
