I think the statistics is no where near where it use to be. I've been playing games since the Commodore 64 days. It was years before I realized girls were not supposed to play video games. By then it was too late and I now can't imagine myself ever not playing video games. Majority of my female friends play video games as well. Mind you, I have more male friends then female but whatevers.

I think at this point its a fallacy, we have went for nearly 30 years believing only men play video games, and even if proven otherwise people have a hard time accepting it as truth. I remember being in line for ME2's and the guy in front of me saying I was a really cool girlfriend for picking up boyfriend's copy of ME2. My response to him was 'hell no, my husband is a Gear and COD player. He hates ME, this game is all mine."

And its not just me being weird unnatural chick. I work in retail, one won't think that the women and girls I work with would be gamers but I know of at least three. One is a big COD and Assassin's Creed fan, another loves the Elder Scrolls games, and the third is a Rift player.

Hell look at us, the FemShep community is almost split down the middle between women and men.

Saying that video games is a male dominated activity then saying only women cook. There are some that do and some that don't.

I know the feeling. When I was telling a (male) friend that I'm playing Mass Effect and GTA he was totally shocked and said "How can you do this? You're supposed to play something girly...like The Sims".
I was like WTF?

I'm quickly delurking here, I just wanted to ask you guys if you know a good ME2 vid that uses the Suicide Mission song, I'm trying to convince a friend to play FemShep and that's his favorite song from the game.

Heh I actually like the Sims but then so does my brother. But on top of that I also play nearly every genre, everything expect sport game I guess. RPGs and action being my favorites.

@ meonlyred: I mostly play sports games and RPG's . But what really annoys me is when people think I just joke with them when I tell them what I'm playing, especially since I'm playing football soccer IRL too

That's a new one. I actually hate The Sims. I tried it and just didn't like it.  It's funny because my husband doesn't like Mass Effect, but he loves GTA. He doesn't like Saints Row, but I do. A friend of mine who is female says she's had guys look at her funny when she tells them she loves Metal Gear Solid.

Oh, I don't know. If it was distanced from the actual marketing as such, I figure there's a significantly reduced chance of it involving several minutes of pointless buzzwording and actually having some trailer in there.

Could be worse.  Could be soon-ish.

As for just slapping it up on Youtube, that's probably what will happen.  That's what happened to BWPulse before it ended.  (BWPulse is no more until post-launch).

Posting the FemShep trailer on youtube would be a good thing, but I'd really, really like to see BioWare do something more ambitious with it. If it's just on youtube, it'd be seen as not much more than fan service, something to "appease" the femShep community, but if it were used in more "official" promotional arenas, like a press release to gaming magazines, G4TV, etc, it'd be more like they were promoting femShep instead of just fan service.

Fan service isn't in and of itself a bad thing, but I'd prefer it to be used in a more official capacity. That would make my year.

I'm pretty sure accusations of "appeasing the femshep crowd" have been flying around since the trailer was announced. I mean, I see your point, but I'm going to largely assume it'll be inevitable.

Oh, I agree, but if it's just on youtube, it will seem that the accusations were right.

If it's used in more official promotions, the accusations will lose some of their weight.  Not all, certainly, there'll still be those who argue against it, but I feel it'd "legitimize" femShep.  (Even though she shouldn't need legitimizing...)
