I've never seen her more gorgeous.

I'm assuming this was written in the spirit of "wow, watching FemShep overcome her pain to get the job done was beautifully inspiring."

Of course.

You guys can make fun of me for asserting the synthesis ending is the technological singularity, but regardless I'm surprised that I seem to be the only one who was so inspired by femshep getting up in the middle of the battlefield and continuing her mission with every last bit of energy and determination she had left. It was so moving, it's one of the defining moments of her character, and you guys want to ignore it, say it never happened, that it was a dream.

You're not the only one.  I thought it was great.  In fact there is a lot of powerful imagery in the ending of ME3. The scene where she crawls to the panel, it’s both heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time.

As for Shepard dying at the end, I find it both poetic and fatalistic at the same time. In essence the moment she pushed Kaidan out of the way of that beacon’s beam, she was on a time clock.  She’s the hero of the tale and heroes die.  Yes, I’ll miss her, but that was always going to be the case.  Little blue children or not, it’s over.

I found this scene to be quite profound in that Shepad knows what she's going to lose, but continues to fight nonetheless.

i just finished the game and this is what i took away from it

TIM: he was right that the ability to control the reapers or the humans can be acquired; he implanted himself with reaper tech ( as Shep discovers while raiding TIM base) and gain only the ability to control humans - makes Shep fire on Anderson. But Shep manages to talk him into killing himself - by making him realize that he was indeed indoctrinated.

SHEPARD is not indoctrinated; the only way to control the reapers is to be offered the ability to do so by the Catalyst. But in order to qualify 1)ascend - 2)be reaper control free( as the catalyst stated himself. TIM didn't know that reaper implants only give the ability to control humans not the reapers. And obviously you can't control something that's already controlling you (TIM first exposure to reaper tech).

THE REAPERS: the reapers are the result of an attempt by the catalyst to 1) make harvested civilizations ascend - 2) provide him with some kind of fighting force. The catalyst believes that he can preserve those civilizations essence alive into reaper constructs.

THE CATALYST: he's is the creator of all that is in the universe.

THE SOLUTION: in the catalyst eyes it is inevitable that evolution in advanced civilizations will result into conflict between organics and synthetics - bringing chaos. So the need for a solution: harvest advanced races and allow them to ascend - which is in essence transforming them into reapers. In his mind  nothing is  really lost but merely recycled maintaining order over chaos. But by the state of the universe, with all the races united agaisnt the reapers, it is apparent that the solution is no longer working. Shepard with her success and achievement is an obvious part of the new solution; the fact that she got where nobody could is enough for her to qualify. Subsequently 3 choices are offered to Shepard as part of that new solution.

SYNTHESIS: would negate any conflict between organics and synthetics by merging those 2 essences - that greenish light on Joker and EDI and the possibility for both races to procreate - while Joker is synthesized and no longer shows symptoms of vrolik syndrome, EDI is also humanized and shows signs of emotions. All normandy crew seem to have survived and crashed on a planet favorable to colonization. Shepard has to die in order for her essence to be merged with that of the catalyst - and the relays are also destroyed.

CONTROL: Shepard gain the ability to control, apparently , the catalyst himself as well as the reapers, becoming essentially...the catalyst herself? She also has to die.The Normandy crew find themselves on a habitable planet again favorable to colonization. The only price to pay would be a total lack of freedom for all form of synthetic life (EDI - the geths).

DESTROY: Shepard destroys the reapers and dies in the subsequent explosion; the Citadel and the relays are also destroyed. The normandy crew survives and crash land on a planet favorable to colonization. With that choice there's no long term solution for possible future conflicts between organics and synthetics. Future civilizations are doomed with the spectre of eternal conflicts - that synthetics will eventually win.

In any case the crew of the Normandy survives as the small segment shows at the end after the credits. The stars and planets configuration is the same as the one seen in the sky when Joker exit the ship.

i picked synthesis - i see it as being the paragon choice.
I still have alot of questions though.

@AtlasMickey and JamieCOTC: What heartbreaking yet beautiful screenshots. The imagery is powerful, yes, but it would still remain powerful even if the endings were expanded upon. I don't believe Shepard's death is necessary to appreciate her unwavering determination in these last segments.

@Saturn Interesting points. I haven't quite made up my mind about it all.

Some ME2 stuff for a change. Almost ready to import, I plan to finish this today. I have to say that I think Tiia looks less mature in ME2 than ME3 (or is it just me).

ME3 Journal Excerpt (spoiler)

To put this bluntly, this will likely be my final entry as I'm fairly certain that I will be killed today. We are headed to the Illusive Man's base (where I intend to drive a stake through his motherf*cking heart) to get the data we need to get the Crucible operational and put an end to this.

It's funny the things you think about on the final day of your life. Like how grateful I am to Dr Chakwas for forcing me to start this journal over three years ago. It's been a long difficult journey to finally become a somewhat emotionally healthy functional adult and I know all this damn self examination is largely responsible.

It's rather funny that I'd finally fill that final piece of the puzzle, finding love, on the last day of my life. But there it is; on the very day I finally feel whole and happy, I'm not likely to live to see another. Even though I rejected Liara over three years ago, she has been there for me as a friend and loved me unconditionally. It's still true, I'm not into women (okay "mono gendered". Whatever) but life isn't perfect and neither is love. Surprisingly, it wasn't as awkward as I thought it would be (Actually it was kinda great). My only real issue was when she got undressed, it was just as I always suspected. I looked like a f*cking 12 year old boy next to her. Oh well, she didn't seem to care.

Here's the bottom line, she didn't turn her back on me when I worked for Cerberus, she didn't dump me for a scientist because it was the "safer choice".........and most of all she didn't leave me by dying. And here on the last day of my life, it is her that came to me to give me comfort, so it's her and her blue bubble butt that I am watching sleep in my bed as I write this.

Thank you Liara, for believing in me, always being there and for loving me even when I didn't deserve it (which was most of the time). While I will likely die today, I do this with no regrets, so you can live out your thousand.

Try not to forget me.

Vega.  I ended up liking him a lot more than I expected.  Despite his ridiculous buff-ness.

I like that the flirting never goes anywhere.  They have a great dynamic.  I think he'd be a good LI, but not in the timeline of ME3.  Don't ask me to explain.  I have the sudden urge to headcanon femShep survives ME3 and spends the rest of her life on earth.  Reapers defeated, relays intact, but the infrastructure of the galaxy is practically rubble. Everyone must rebuild.  Then I could see them getting involved, maybe over the course of months or years.  *Pictures femShep and Vega sitting on lawn chairs on a roof somewhere shooting the **** and trying to figure out civilian life on post-Reaper earth*  Yeah, I like fluff.  What of it?!

On a completely separate topic.  I groused enough about it, but I put all my Sheps into ME3.  Gibbed editor is a lifesaver.

Dunno. I didn't have time to play the final mission this morning because I had to leave for work. But it's not looking good. Even though I scoured the universe for every possible resource, the EMS is only at 3,000 and I have no interest in Multi player. So yeah, I think I'm going to have to watch my beautiful girl die tonight. ::sniff:::

My opinion on the ending is that if I was to compare what BioWare wrote to garbage I would be afraid of insulting people who work in sanitation since they would never handle something as foul as this. Five years and hundreds of hours are literally snuffed out in 10 minutes all it rendered utterly pointless since nothing you do in any of the games even remotely factors into the "pick a colour and die" ending for this game. Squadmates are pointless, War Assets are pointless all of it is utterly inconsequential to the ending it makes no difference if you have the biggest fleet in history or a tiny ill-prepared force going on a suicide run no matter what the Deus Ex Machina shows up and gives you 3 options to solve the problem and Shepard just lies down and accepts them without question. It's not like a Genocidal computer program would lie to you, this Starchild is on the level. Then you pick an ending of which all are 95% exactly the same save an extra scene here or there and some pallette swaps.

We don't learn anything, we don't see the effect of anything and all the closure we get is that everyone and everything dies. Took 3 games to tell that story, that plot hole ridden waste of time story. Of course the kicker is when you learn that they said they will never do anything Mass Effect related after 3's "ending" so they could have done anything had 16 radically different endings and instead they purposely chose to make them vague confusing crap endings for no other reason than that's what Mac and CHUD wanted.

Lot's of speculation from everyone.

Do you honestly think that BiowarEA will leave such a nice cash cow as this alone?
Standard policy for EA is to buy a brand, exploit it to hell then dump it.

Great job summing it all up. In the only playthrough I've completed, Cybill went with "DESTROY". Man that wasn't pretty. LOL. Not sure what Rhynne will do. She strikes me as a control kinda gal but you can never tell with her.

You're not alone, I am with you. I also thought seeing her all beat up and eventually dying, really humanized her. I didn't really need all my questions answered and "closure". I saw what was important, the very essense of what Shepard is about, that she accomplished her mission and her very dramatic (and sad) passing. I didn't really need to see what happened to the Normandy (and with the sketchy job they did with that, it probably would have been better if they left it at Shepards death).

But back to your original point, yes it really moved me watching her drag herself forward, bloodied and broken. My son and I both sat there with our mouths hanging open when she perished.

Make me feel happy, make me feel sad, as long as you make me feel something.
