I feel the same Sage. I was hoping for an open ended ending something like.
Shepard is standing on the bridge of the Normandy over looking Earth. Scene cuts to people rebuilding, captains commanding troopers. Shepard turns to look out into the void of space. "Joker," she says with smile, "those stars are awful far away. Bring them to me." Joker gives a light laugh, "Aye, aye, ma'am."
Or Shepard has a LI and they are alive at the end of the game, maybe this.
Shepard speaking with the heads of the allied races, human, asari, turian, salarian, etc. They are speaking of rebuilding, of alliances and hope. A ray of hope after all the pain and lose they have endured. Shepard nods and turns leaving the room. Stepping out the door she hears, "Hey." Turning she sees love interest leaning against the wall arms cross. S/He smiles, "Ready to get out of here." Shepard returns the smile, "Hell yeah."
Was that so hard?! No!! Give us a win or a heroic death but leave it open ended enough that we can fill in the blanks. Trying to fill in the blanks with the current ending is just depressing as hell.
Can we just print this out and send it to BioWare? Please? You have no idea how much I want this.
Here is my first go at with the standard casual uniform. I did not appease him.
And here is when I reloaded and did it again with her formal dress uniform and I missed on purpose. His reaction is hilarious!
When she winds in that awkward fashion to throw the bottle, I thought, "oh no... femshep you're going to throw like a girl lol" but her follow-through was pretty good. Very happy with that scene.

I do have more smiley shots than I expected, though not of the full on grin variety. You do get to meet a lot of old friends in the game which prompts smiling. This is from talking to Dr. Chuckles for the first time.
I love this pic. I like the juxtaposition of her green eyes with the circular green door lock in the background. It establishes a familiarity of structure that's very soothing. Also, I like how she looks like a grown-up. That face looks tested and experienced. Very nice picture indeed.

Really cool. Love Garrus - consistently since the beginning - even though he had to share the spotlight...
And to those who are depressed, I understand. I'm w/ you all on that, but even if we get a sucky ending, that does not take away what femshep is all about. It doesn't take away the experience we all had in getting her recognition. It doesn't take away that she is the best female PC ever made. It doesn't take away the friendships we made. And it certainly doesn't take away how utterly outstanding Jennifer Hale was in this game.
This does not preclude the indoctrination theory (which I think there is evidence for) but I do believe this is the ending BW intended and is the definite end. BW may still pull a "Broken Steel" at some point due to the outcry, but time will only tell. And obviously this is just my opinion. I could be way off base.
I still think SpaceKid is full of crap.
Space kid is the main reason i would consider indoctrination - well among other small details - as if something went through her mind and found the very thing that would render her the most vulnerable - most likely to accept the truth and therefore not attempt to resist it. What she saw in her last dream might as well be interpreted as i gotcha(indoctrinated). I read somewhere someone making a reference to the catalyst taking that form(kid) as a clear sign of mind control attempt - don't remember who - maybe in Sage article
SpaceKid is TOTALLY full of crap. Realized today what he says when trying to dissuade destroy ending. "I know you've thought about destroying us." Yep. US. As in, me and my Reaper buddies. Dunno if he's a projection or the citadel is part of the reaper fleet somehow, only activated by the crucible to become self aware, but at least at that moment, he slips and stops acting like this neutral 3rd party and identifies with the reapers.
so yeah. not trusting him so much. little creep. <_<
@ aislinn -
pretty much that. again - they wrote the thane scene for the same people they made the thane t-shirt for: guys who didn't romance him and treated him like a bro. sadness.

also, pissed femshep pic, because:

After I heard The Catalyst reasoning and the very fact that I could not refute that broken logic... I just said F-it. That Swan dive in the Synthesis ending is symbolic of what happened. They jumped off the deep end. I reject all the endings a canon. Matter of everything after Harbinger landing...never happened... nope.
I don't fully understand this so asking -- was the "cure for thane kiros" movement on facebook started by the fans or by bioware? I wasn't there for it so not fully sure what happened. If they did help to promote that, then that's not cool to play on fandom like that.

Was just watching video review/complaint about the ending. Thought this point was excellent:
"When people say Commander Shepard HAS to die, that assumes Shepard has to do anything in a game that's all about choice."
^ yep. that. and i want her to live.
If you chose charmander you "technically" live.
The problem is that damn charmander never listens you have to lvl up first and its can be lazy...
We need to eliminate the problem then. _____
I finished Priority: citadel 2, Alex romanced Thane. I'm so dissapointed, I thought he was going to get a better treatment, basically most of the romances in ME2 got poor treatment. This is bull****.
