On the subject of the Plothole Planet...how do people feel about the specific scenario where Shepard's LI lives and is seen exiting the Normandy?
This was the most gnarly part of the ending for me. I'm probably being selfish, but in Aki/Kaidan's case I would have felt a bit better with "together in death" if they couldn't be together in life. Kaidan already knows what it's like to live through Shepard's death and it's heartbreaking to think that he'd have to go through it a second time.
Do Liara-mancers find this to be less of a problem because Liara would have long outlived Shepard regardless? Do Thane-mancers find "together in death" to be any help or does the general crappiness of the Thane romance treatment in ME3 sour everything for you?
The Normandy scene is probably the biggest problem with the ending for me. I can accept Star Child to a degree (I think his/it's sudden appearence is a terrible plot device, but I can live with it), if it wasn't for the scene with the Normandy running away with Shepard's entire ground team on-board. The fact Liara steps out at the end in my game is just another punch to the gut. In my head she would never leave Hrist if there was even the slightest possibility she was still alive.
If the scene switched back to Shepard lying in the rubble after picking the destroy option, with her team still there, reapers lying dead on the ground, then that would be an acceptable ending. Not perfect, but much better that Joker doing a runner with everyone just to crash on an unknow jungle planet.
As for dream team. Hrist took Liara and Garrus most of the time. Though Kaidan did get a few outings in place of Garrus come the end game.
And since I don't want to always post negative things about ME3's ending, I will add that I absolutely love the rest of the game, and throught it was fantastic up until the Harbinger laser beam bit.
The crew moving about the Normandy, talking and interacting with one another was great. The entire romace plot with Liara was beautiful and exactly what I wanted. Seeing so many old faces reappear (the conversation you can have with Conrad about thermal clips Vs weapons overheating was genius), Mordin's sacrifice on Tuchanka, ending the geth/quarian conflict, and plenty of other things, It was all amazing.
But that ending, BioWare? Why that ending!?
