YES, indeed. I was very happy with this. Artemis is an infiltrator. The last thing she needs is glowing bits of armor giving away her position.

I was looking at that and was thinking "no, that can't look so crappy.  They wouldn't do that."

They had to skimp somewhere, and they did it by using super low-res shadow maps and super low-res normals on the chestpieces (at the very least).  This is why I hate the 'black box' aspect of Unreal 3.  No modding whatsoever.

I'm going through my insanity playthrough now, barely a week after having finished it the first time. I dunno, I guess my capacity for denial is strong, 'cause I simply refute the endings. It helps to write fanfiction, since this is exactly the situation fanfiction is for (e.g. "fixing" the holes). Most of my post-ME3 stuff hand-waves away any explanation for how the Reapers were defeated.

In other news, I've been MUCH more diligent about uploading my screenshots this playthrough!

I'm right there with you all. I went through the ending again three times because it keeps freezing the game after the credits and stargazer scene. Just a black screen, which I'm sure is not supposed to happen. it didnt change.  Not that it matters, I don't plan to play any new content they release. The only time I'll play ME3 again is to FRAPS video for Jessica's eulogy video. And I'll have to force myself to do it.

I would play the hell out of ME3 if they release DLC content that fixes the plot hole crap. Well, if it doesn't make it worse, that is. IF the indoctrination theory turns out to be true or if that ending turns out to only be only half the story and we come to find out that everything isn't quiet so horrible then I will never stop playing ME3. And heralded Bioware as the supreme game masters. Until the mythological 'Give Us Some F***ing Closure' and 'Fix ME2 Romances' DLC is released its just too depressing to play.

Seconded. I hate to say it, but the more distance you get from it, I think it only becomes WORSE. You get to turn it over in your mind and go 'What the HELL?' from a whole new angle. That post Red linked summed it up well. And I found that one point at the end very interesting:

Notice how NONE of the Mass Effect writers have tried to defend the ending? Marketing has posted links to positive reviews, and the devs have promised closure, but no one really has explained the endings or tried to defend the vision there. When people criticized artistic choices in other games (LI options in DA2, Alistair being 'whiney', etc.) the writers - okay, well, David Gaider - jumped up and defended their choices. There is resounding silence from the Mass Effect writing camp. It's so profound that I almost think I hear something in that silence. And what I think I'm hearing is, "We had to cut it short." <_<

Ehhh.... :pinched: sage is rambling again.

In other news :wizard: I am trying to get this wad o' fanfic into something sembling a few opening chapters.

And hey, Jamie, any news on the fanfic/fanart contest?

Oh so much this. I was actually going through it again with a pen and paper, just taking notes in full on Academic Research Mode, to see if I'd missed something. No, not really. The more I detach myself from it the more I see an idea that just totally falls apart in all aspects of its implementation. The article you're talking about also does a very good job of setting that up, as well as highlighting the cold hard fact that most likely, what we got is what they had time for, not what would have made sense or even what they would have wanted. It's what EA's release schedule allowed them to do. <_<

That's the distinct feeling I'm left with, anyway. Because I cannot wrap my head around the fact that the principals of the project literally forgot their own lore on such big issues, like what happens when a mass relay is destroyed.
It is just mind-boggling.

As for the future. I don't know. I look over at the Dragon Age camp and I'm reminded of the comments they made regarding DLC - namely that a DLC cannot fundamentally alter gameplay systems. So I do think the chance of us ever seeing all those races working together, or Shepard deploying them is not going to happen, but rather we might be able to hope for extra scenes. Which would be something in itself, if you think about it? A DLC that's only cutscenes and dialogue ? Hmmz...

So much this. Actually I was doing some musing on that last night. We've known for awhile that StarChild's voice is the child actor, overlaid with Jennifer Hale's voice on the left audio channel and Mark Meer's voice on the right audio channel. These voices, added with a "ghost echo" effect then make up the voice of the Catalyst. However, I noticed something last night; Shepard's voice has the exact same "ghost effect" applied throughout that entire scene. So femShep's voice in that scene is literally a 1:1 tone copy of Jen Hale's part of StarChild. Just musings on my part, but it does seem like another + for the Indoctrination Theory, and it being all in Shepard's head.

I ended up just save editing in Jane-chan's textures because loading up texmod is such a pain in the cloaca for ME3, even though I like the colours on Ottemis' edit more. I don't want to go through the process every time. Bleh, Origin.

Hey... probably a stupid question, but...

Has anyone here tried to model Trishka from Bulletstorm (shown below) in the Mass Effect (or 2 or 3) character creator? I might give it a shot (though I'll drop it if I can't come close enough) and thought I'd ask if anyone had done so and might be willing to share tips, advice, or codes...

A cursory Google search brought me nothing.

Here's Trishka:
Posted Image

The reason I want to try this is because I have had a hard time making other femSheps due to not being able to get used to hearing Jennifer Hale's voice from any one except Artemis. However, I did get used to her voice as Trishka in Bulletstorm, so I think I could handle a femShep who looked like her.

Yeah, I'm weird, I know.

My femshep just gave her life to save everyone :(. I want to replay the last bit because I want the breathing shepard at the ending. I guess I need to play multiplayer right :(

I cried like a baby even though I already knew what was gonna happen.

I think I found the biggest reason why the ending is so upsetting....

Everyone promised to buy Devi a drink at the bar (yes Jacob, you included) but you can't offer a drink to corpse now, can you? Here's some pictures from Jacobs side quest.

I always use the 1st material - it is less likely to reflect light. I found out that white light works well in certain environments such as Grissom Academy. I never use green - except with woodland - as it is the easiest perceptible to the 'human eye' (nvg).
I also have several sets of camo:
-Woodland ( Eden Prime )
-2 desert (Tuchanka - Garrus camo )
-urban
-custom set to Palavan moon ( can't remember the name ).
I really wish i could apply those to guns too.

I actually wanted to use tthe Cerberus assault suit, since it has shield, health, weapon damage and ammo boosts, basically everything I want out of armor, and more of them than the N7 Defender. But it's white and black and yellow and carries that damned Cerberus logo.

I would've liked to texmod it so that it was slate blue-green, black and dark red with a SPECTRE logo instead.

I think on my next play-through, I'll do the whole changing camouflage schemes to fit the environments thing. It's such a simple and brilliant idea (which never crossed my mind before).

It's easier if you use a different method then the renaming one, makes it a bit less messy I thought.
Basically, you create two folders in the location of the exe file. One called "texmod in" and one called "texmod out".
Put a texmod.exe renamed to MassEffect3.exe in the Texmod in folder.
Put a copy of the original MassEffect3.exe in the Texmod out folder.

When you want to load it, copy the exe from the "texmod in" folder over the original exe in Origin Games\\Mass Effect 3\\Binaries\\Win32.
Load through Origin, texmod boots.
Rename that exe back to texmod, copy in the exe from the "texmod out" folder, boot that one through texmod.

Takes away a bit of the hassle, I feel. Also, as-long as you don't manually kill the game, but exit normally, you'll never kill texmod with it so you can keep it open between reboots and you'd only have to do it once per cycle.

At the start of each 'cycle' so to speak, the only thing you gotta do is remove the texmod.exe from \\Mass Effect 3\\Binaries\\Win32 and start from the beginning. Less confusion and you also always have a copy of the original exe someplace safe, so even if you mock up or get confused you can just start from scratch.

Having said that, she looks nice with defjane's texture too =)

I use this .bat file to run Texmod.....just open Notepad and copy this onto here and save it as a .bat extension. You have to make sure this file and the Texmod.exe are in the same folder as your ME3 binary.

@echo off
echo Renaming files...
rename MassEffect3.exe MassEffect3_bak.exe
rename Texmod.exe MassEffect3.exe
echo Now run Mass Effect 3 from Origin.....
echo Press any key to continue once Texmod opens.....
pause
echo Renaming files...
rename MassEffect3.exe Texmod.exe
rename MassEffect3_bak.exe MassEffect3.exe
echo Select MassEffect3.exe in Texmod
echo Press any key to exit
pause
