Look I'm not happy about how Mass Effect ended. And by not happy I mean punching puppies not happy.
See, that's what pisses
me off! If you punch any puppies,
I swear to God, I will find you, red, and I'll, I'll... okay I forgot we were in a timeout lol.
And I think weather you agree with the endings or not, it was lights years away from how we thought it was going to end.
Not for me.
Really, one of the very first things I thought about Mass Effect, before I even opened the box was, "how are they going to address the inevitable union of organic and synthetic life?" I'm not kidding!
Maybe I'm weird, but I find the real world sociological, economic, and scientific arguments persuasive that within the next 40 years we will not only have manipulated our biology so much that we'll have transcended organic limitations and appear synthetic, while simultaneously creating aritificial intelligence so advanced that it's indistinguishable from organic intelligence because we're all machines anyway... etc. That's what makes me a geek.
That's what makes me interested in science fiction in the first place. I wouldn't be playing games like Mass Effect if I didn't think they would help me grapple with moral and philosophical issues related to the machine nature of humanity and our technological evolution.
