OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG--*stops to take a breath; feeling lightheaded* Oh, my... I'm a little verklempt! Talk amongst yourselves... I'll give you a topic... BroShep is neither a brother, nor is he a shepherd...

Okay, I'm feeling better. I'll be in the other room for a while, releasing a series of unbridled squees on my unsuspecting dachshund while she stares at me like I've lost my mind. :lol:

Seriously, I know we haven't seen the best angles on her yet, but from what I can tell, she looks SO BEAUTIFUL--in the good way, not the model-esque way but in the tough, noble, serious-minded sort of way. Exactly the kind of woman I wish I'd had as a big sister growing up. She even looks a tiny bit more muscular than before, though that's likely just an increased number of polys on the female model this time.

I need more squee time. This is just too awesome. I've gone from, "Ngghh, grrr, where is the trailer?" to feeling like I can hold out for a while. (Even though my anticipation level has just skyrocketed a little bit. This looks like good taste to me!)

Kind of got tied of "can't take femshep seriously" posts.

Hey, Ripley! You would know something about hair, right? Long or short, classy or messy, your fist hurts just the same.

These two posts are so full of win. I can't stop smiling.

I have long hair, and even if it blows in my eyes, I can still see through it; it's just annoying sometimes. But if it's cut into bangs in the front, that's not a problem. And as long as it's not like waist-length, it's not going to get caught in a door as she's trying to escape or anything. They really could've gone a bit longer--Miranda-length, at least--without disturbing anyone. The severe buns are the only way to have long hair, as it is. Kinda silly. I like their mindset, that they were trying to think practically, but they went a little overboard, I think.

And the whole "can't take FemShep seriously" thing has been bugging me, too. A number of times I typed out a response, then decided it wasn't worth it because the person wasn't going to listen anyway. Memes typically have a better effect, I think. People forget to be angry, and remember to think, if they laugh a little bit first.

I had a conversation with my boyfriend's brother the other day about Maggie Q as Nikita, and he was like, "I'd just grab her hands, and she wouldn't be able to fight me." My guy chuckled and responded, "sure, until she kicks you between the legs." I added, "Also, she usually carries a firearm, you know..."

I also like that she uses speed and leverage when she fights, and she uses the environment as well--skinny, wiry, brainy fighters (both male and female) are often underestimated, which they typically use to their advantage. The most important thing in a fight with a stronger opponent (and every fighter will face one at some point) is probably making sure that they can't do what Frits was saying--they can't pin you down and use their strength against you. If a fighter takes that into account, uses dexterity, speed and smarts to counter that strength, than generally they do better than a person with mere strength.

This article about the painful aspects of fighting serves pretty well to present arguments against the efficacy of simple fist-fighting. Fists are fragile things; faces are not. You have to know just where and how to hit or you're going to break all the bones in your hand. So all these arguments really are terribly stupid. ManShep and FemShep both use the same thing in most cases--a gun--because guns are more efficient in every way. You don't have to close distance to use them, and they are much, MUCH more powerful than even the strike of the most muscled hulk in space.

Except maybe a krogan's.

Well, in celebration of our new FemShep (and the end of my exam period, which gives me time to play ME2 again, I have uploaded some Shepards.

I see a paralel between femshep and Williams in ME 1: they both have to perform better than anyone else  only to avoid suspicion.  In  action rpg town, Femshep is as blacklisted as Ashley was in the Alliance; she needs a serious dose of realism to be believable and somewhat tolerated ( not by us ). That doesn't mean like you pointing out, that she can't have fun doing it and looking good in the process. If you're gonna wear a chignon, you might as well stylized it as much as you can. If the armor feels bulky why not slip on some Cardin undies under it. If my Deirdre goes down fighting agaisnt the reapers, she wants to look her best going down.

Amen, Wynne! (hehe that rhymed!) The thing about the fists is completely true which is why when oyu see a really good barefisted punch, sometimes you see the puncher shake their hand afterward ebcause it did just as much damage to them as it did to the punchee. It's why Boxers, Shepard, hell even Batman wears padded gloves to prevent their hands from being broken on some persons's forehead or Jaw. As for the people saying they don't take fmeshep seriously would be saying taht up until the moment they're staring down the barrel of her pistol or she's holding them by their collar over a drop of a few hundred feet. xD

How did you get that lovely heart-shaped jawline?  Is it just a combined really low "jaw width" and low "chin width", or something else?

good article! frighteningly true, sadly.
the point about punches is true. i've been out of my martial arts classes for 2 yrs now, went back and teacher suggests practicing advanced punches. um, yeah. i went for practicing basic punches against the bag all night until my knuckles were all bruised and split because I had totally lost the ability to form a correct fist - esp. with my off hand. my hands look awful, but it was good reminder that you don't actually want to use fists if you don't have to - especially when they're bare. (and now i want a bag so i can practice at home.)

And on another note, seeing all these gorgeous femsheps makes me want to play around with the CC some more. but NO! i need practice with adept, since I had to drop down to veteran for a while there to get hang of it again. was back up to insanity by the time i took on the shadow broker, but still. need to get my skills on for MP, since i imagine i won't be able to be quite so tactical and hang out in cover, given what little buzz i've heard about the new baddies.

yeah the article made me realize why people throw their forearms rather than fists. forearms are more dense (Shepard's elbow of doom Melee!)

True! I try not to watch it  too often or it really messes me up!

 Even in karate practice the whole point behind punching bags is to augment your bone density and it takes a decade to achieve.Posted ImageLike all of you noted, nobody goes around throwing punchies bare handed.

Here's a fun game

Let's do a character map. Feel free to include an image if you'd like

Name of your Shepard:

Renegade/Paragon/Other:

List 3 major influences (Famous People, Fictional characters, etc) behind your Shepard:

~~~~
Name: Jane Shepard / Nickname 'Foucault' (rhymes with **** Off)
Renegade (With all important choices being 'Paragon')
1. Lisbet Salander (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo): I love the idea of RPing an autistic savant, who has an eidetic memory but also can't socialize with people worth a crap. It definitely adds a different level of complexity to the game. And explains why she's willing to help people, while dissing them twenty four seven.
2. Sarah Connor (Terminator 2): Because when the end of the world is coming up, you will be pretty ruthless and determined to get what needs to get done, done.
3. Xena, Warrior Princess (Xena, Warrior Princess):
The only way to solve some problems is to knock your head into them.
Enjoy!
Name: Damara Thalia Shepard / Nickname: Red, Mara, Gadget (she loves tinkering).
Paragrade. She's mostly good, but not to the extent that she'll let people like Fisk go or not push a merc out a perfectly-placed window.
Major Influences:
Emma Watson: She was the model I based Mara's looks on. I actually hate the Harry Potter series, but Emma is really cute and I wanted to make a cutesy Shepard.
Samantha Carter: Great fighter, extremely intelligent, slightly oblivious to romantic things and extremely attractive. Mara is alot like her.
Vala Mal Doran: Mara has a mischevious streak a few kilometers wide, much like Vala. Also, Mara isn't afriad to make jokes that are over the line.
slightly wide jaw and small chin with correct facial structure option because some of them have very ugly jaw line
Susannah Shepard.
Renegon
1. Batman: Tragic past has turn character into vigilante. Hides her face behind a mask/helmet. Considered just as bad as the people she goes after.
2. James Bond: Takes advantages of people. Never stays too close to anyone. Loves to gamble and drink. Enjoys danger.
3. Mystique: Backstabber. Betrayer. Liar. Infiltrator. Leader. Different. Tragic.
Kallen Kouzuki Shepard
Paragade(alot more Gade than normal)
Influence:
1.)Kallen Kozuki-Stadtfeld (Code geass) badass female soldier and Zero's Queen (He treated strategy like Chess and she was the queen piece on his board)
2.) Bruce Wayne/Batman- as she's a Spacer I have the Shepard's as a highly respected name in the Alliance and Galaxy so Naturally her family has a bit of weath. She uses her name and her own fame to influence people and her soldiers though she does not follow he no kill rule of the Batman which brings me to her third influence...
3) Kate Kane/Batwoman- her fighting style is similar to Kane Kane's since both were military brats with high ranking parents. They also look similar (red hair/green eyes) and go into battle in Red and Black, which are the colors of War.
Teddy Shepard
Paragon (smidge of renegade)
Influence
1. Abigail Adams: Quiet, reserved, diplomatic, intelligent, avid reader
2. Jacquline Kennedy: Graceful, poised, proper (prefers the officer's uniform)
Mystique: Knowledable, calm, friendly, thinker.
Teddy has my personality traits- the bookwormish sort, but if I had to compare her, those are 2 of the women I admire historically if I had to narrow it down
Oh fun!
Name: Zody Shepard
Paragon/Adept/Colonist/Sole Survivor
1. Reasons for making her in the first place/looks/powers - Kaidan Alenko: I had made a couple Kaidanmancers before but decided to scrap them all and make one 'perfect' Shepard for him. I wanted her to be striking, thus black hair and pale eyes. Looked at women like Diana (Wonder Woman), Amy Lee, and Eva Green. Wanted her to be a smoky/dark beauty. I made her a biotic so she has that level of kinsmanship with him.
2. Personality - Obi-wan Kenobi: Dry humor and sarcastic wit that is a defense mechanisms to mask emotional anxiety. Tenacious, selfless, and modest. Sometimes stubborn and cynical.
3. Motivations - Bruce Wayne: Following the dramatic death of her family and friends, she tries to become something bigger than herself. She sacrifices her personal life to make life better for others. She is completely unable to not help people.
Name: Sarah Angel Shepard (Nickname: Ghost or Ice)
Colonist/War Hero
Paragade Closer to Renegon than Paragon
Influences:
1. Sarah Kerrigan: An special ops that's also an amazing assassin and recon operative that's not afraid of anything. She's pretty much the base from where i built my own Shep. They're still quite close in personality but Kerrigan is the only person i had in mind when i created my own Shep, the rest is the characters i've found close to Sarah.
2. Batman/Bruce Wayne: Resourceful and after the death of everything she cared about she do whatever she can to make the galaxy a better place and make sure that no one else has to go through the same things she did.
3. Hild: One of the Valkyries. Was very well known for being one of the more powerful. She could heal the dead and Sarah almost does that. Instead she inspire and brings hope to the ones that need it.
