@Lemonwizard: I just played that part again last night. Always makes me want to cry since he's the closest thing my orphan Earthborn has to a father. In my head he's the reason she joined the Alliance. I'm also sad that Anderson never gets to retire and settle down with Kahlee Sanders. Poor guy deserves a rest.

Is there ever any more fleshing out on the background of when Shepard and Anderson meet? It's obvious from their ME1 interactions that they've served together for a long enough time to have a very strong rapport, which implies they knew each other prior to their postings on the Normandy (recall that the beginning of ME1 is the Normandy's very first mission - they couldn't have gotten to know each other on this posting. Not enough time).

I don't think so, if I remember right he hand picked her to be on his ship, but with his age and rank I don't know if they exactly served with each other prior to that. It's possible that he maybe mentored her a little through the N7 program.

Good point. I might just include Anderson in my main Shep's bio...Posted Image

Fem Shep question:

Since I replay the second time ME1 I see again why I dislike Ashley so much. She is a ugly little racist and I wont her in my squads mostly.

Is this only me who feels this way ?

@LadyAly:

I think that's a bit harsh, concerning Ashley. Her stance is believable. You can't expect all humans to be so accepting of aliens, especially since humanity has only been on the galactic stage for such a short period of time in comparison to other species. I would find it unbelievable to have all of the Normandy crew so chummy with aliens. Ashley's attitude also provides a good opportunity to characterize your own Shepard. Will she agree with Ashley, reaffirming her conservative stance, or will she do the opposite?

Opposite ;P Very Opposite - I just find her pretty annoying. And at my first playthrough I felt the same way.
Its just the way she is talking about her meanings and how she looks then ... ugly....
Maybe its cause I'm a woman ...

Flies makes a good point.  Whether or not you personally like her character, it's an opportunity to characterize Shepard (does she agree, does she disagree.  I thought it was a great bit in ME1...her convos touched on a few points for who your Shepard is: Why is she in the military, where did she come from, does she like working with aliens, is she religious at all.  Loved it.)

I personally am in the camp that doesn't see Ash as racist.  None of my Shepards do, paragon, renegade, or any shade in between.  She's a bit of a nationalist at first - lacking for a better term at the moment.  She doesn't 'hate aliens because they're aliens' - she mistrusts their motives because they are not a part of human government.  And that's understandable.  They are all looking out for their own interests, same as humanity.  It's not racist to recognize their actions might not be beneficial for us.

But I can see why she would rub some folks the wrong way, she is very blunt about it and can come across as abrasive. Kind of like this post before I found the edit button ...need more coffee.
...

Okay, I have to post this.

The First Contact War is still up there in everyone's minds. Humans on the Citadel are looked at as if they were children or worse, and Ashley's dad was kind of screwed by Turians. My paragade Asche understood where Ashley was coming from, but didn't particularly like it. Asche believed and as was evidenced by the Normandy itself, that working together would advance everyone. Humanity needed to earn its place and the respect of the rest of the galaxy.

Evie, my Renegon, never looked any deeper than what Ashley was saying at the time. As long as Ashley didn't cause disruption or interfere with the mission or Evie's authority, Ashley could think whatever she wanted. It was Evie who called the shots. Period.

I share, not a Shepard, but one of my favorite screenshots from the series. This is team humanity's reaction to Shepard's interaction with the Beacon on Eden Prime.

Very intense!

I agree with Ash being a believable racist. I'm pointing out that i personally like her - she survives Virmire more than Alenko does in my runs. But this is why i think under slightly different circumstances, she would have been my main shep worst enemy
alien attacked Shanxi - distrust/hate(?) all aliens
geths wipe out her unit - hate all geths
Cerberus kills humans - hate all cerberus personel
I'm not saying that she's wrong; but if you combine that with her reluctance to admit when she made a mistake...my shep has killed poeple for less.

Seems some people get offended by all and its notr allowed to speak freely about what you think.
Its my playthrough/feeling and you had could just say you have no problem with her. To accuse me its off topic is a bit over the line I suppose.

Sorry if I worded that a bit bluntly.  I'm not offended.  Just didn't want the dialogue to devolve into people arguing over whether or not they personally hate so and so character.  I'll delete it.

its okay @ELE08 . I will delete it too.

Though, you didn't get the point or my english knowledge is to bad to word it out in the right way.
I do not hate her ... she is just annoying me with her limited view of things and *Aliens*
A lot of personality goes mostly into your playthroughs - and I'm a NON Racist from the heart - so maybe this is the reason I can't stand her.

@SaturnRing I fear she will never survive Virmire as long as I play a FemShep. She has only that cahnce if I play Male ;P

Hi everybody ;), I think I need your help, I'm at the end of my modding abilities (or maybe I'm color-blind :D). I'm searching for blood red tint of the lipstick, but every shade I try on my Shep is too dark, or too light, simply said, I can't find the right tint. I thought maybe somebody here already have color vectors, or idea...I'd be grateful for any advice :) .

Wow this thread moves so fast - and what striking pictures .... @Geirahod This Shepard is the hottest FemShep I have seen so far - excellent. What Mod you used for her ?

I think mine are just to normal to post again...

But I still love them, though. ;P

I used the eyelashes mod from Ottemis and a custom face texture that I did...
The eyes are green because of the videos in Javik's mission.
The rest is just hair mixed up, new sexy with Ashley's hair. xD! I think it worked really nice.

Ashley pushed my buttons somewhat on my first playthrough, not because of her outlook, but she was so much like my own Shepard -- a strong soldier who was willing to take matters into her own hands (which is a compliment unto itself, heh). Her attitude does evolve and she really isn't that extreme -- just outspoke like Jack. Some people feel Kaidan is bland and boring in ME1 and he will poke fun at himself in ME3 for annoying other people with his integrity. Who takes Tali's death the hardest in ME3? Ashley. She considered Tali to be like a little sister to her.

I've found that when a character rubs me the wrong way, it almost always means I simply need to spend more time with the character. I found Javik to be a pill on my first game and left him in his cabin a lot. Decided to bring him out more on my next game and he skyrocketed up to being my favorite squadmate since I understood him so much better. ;)

About the VS in general... I find that situation a bit interesting. Ashley is pretty much opposite personality wise compared to my Shepard: loud, clearly says what she thinks (when anyone isn't asking) and is very open. Kaidan is somewhat similar to Shepard but then there's this certain "problem".

Imagine a room. Shepard and Kaidan are the only two there. Shepard fiddling with datapad and Kaidan doing something equally "meaningful". I could imagine that situation would stay on forever and the room would be similar to graveyard in terms of overall atmosphere. Both do not take contact that much. (This is one reason why I find the non-canon Kaidan LI test run a bit weird; it wasn't how I imagine Shepard. Similar personalities doesn't necessarily fit together well.) Now, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that (and I probably fit in that category too; dominating Finnish genes, my 1/4 German part has no chance beating that, heh) but Ashley changes the over atmosphere quite a bit since she pretty different personality. In theory probably prefer Kaidan's type but Ashley tends to survive Virmire almost every time...

That's how I see it. I might not have answered the question exactly but anyway.

Haha, Kaidan to me is just calm born from self confidence. He is like a volcano, beautiful, strong - inspires, provoke awe and admiration...but watch out! when the volcano erupts - in the bedroom as well as on the battlefield...

@bettak: You're welcome^_^

Finished the Rannoch mission yesterday and at the end of it Dawn was ready to just grab some popcorn and watch how the quarians get blown up by the geth. She was tired of always helping them and they didn't even think about listening to her. So she made them decide to either stand down or fight alone against the geth. Luckily (for them) they saw reason and stood down.

And some pics

ELE is just about the nicest person ever.  I got home from work today and got on BSN, and saw a message pop up.  Totally unrequested, ELE ran Jessica, who she still had sitting around somewhere from the multiple-femShep art project a while back, through the Lazarus program that the fans are putting together.  The result is... well.

So good to see Jessica back! also, I will second you: ELE is awesome.

I know that had been bugging you w/ the Jessica import, so yay! nice to see her back.

that project lazarus deal is fantastic for fixing import problems. really impressed by it.

snippage there:

that's a fantastic point. i quite agree. i think it's very easy to 'click' with a character and then spend all one's time with them, but you're right: the more you hang out with the BW characters, you learn more. you may still dislike them, but you see where they're coming from.

Also, i found in ME1, there is a definite "bada**" scale going on in terms of party banter. The more senior/veteran person gets the 'cool/sarcastic' lines and the more innocent/younger person gets the 'newb/fng' lines.

***
Example:
Jr. member on Ilos: "Saren's getting away!"
Senior member in Ilos: "Yeah, okay. Who votes we take the armored tank into the creepy underground bunker?"
moments later
Jr. member: "What's going on? It's a trap!"
Sr. member: "Uh, I don't think this is Saren." <-- when you hit vigil's place
***

^ that happens throughout the game. and the order of preference, so far as I can tell, runs thusly: Wrex (most senior), Garrus, Kaidan, Ashley, Tali, Liara (i think, haven't fully tested liara/tali, so not sure which is which).

Point is, if you take wrex or garrus with you, ash and kaidan come off as TOTAL newbs. I found it kind of frustrating, really, esp. for Kaidan. given what we hear about him, he probably has about the same level of experience as garrus in the field - though w/ different kinds of ops, and ash, though less experienced, is hardly that newbish. i found if i took wrex or garrus along, the VS ends up really coming off as a total dork. take along tali or liara, however, and they come off as the mature, clear-headed older soldier, trying to look out for the younger member of the party.

anyhow, maybe that's just me, but i think a lot of the dislike of the VS comes from these moments where they say things that don't really fit their character in me1, given what other characters are saying and doing, and then you chat with them for a convo or two and they lay all this seeming non-sequiter stuff on you ('baat training bad!' 'i don't trust the guy who just took a rocket for me back on luna!') and you're left with a 'whaaa?'

yeah, like you gilsa, i think multiple playthroughs usually give a different perspective, but sometimes it's hard to overcome the initial dislike. i guess based on your recommendation, i'll have to try to be nice to javik. :pinched:
