Nice finds, Crash. I've been doing a couple of sketches of my characters. It's tempting to simply manipulate images but it often feels like the "easy" way out. Here's one doodle I quickly drew of Nemain, having wanted to see her with longer hair before the big chop:

Image IPB

Yeah, my skills are wanting :(

I'd like to make a portrait of each of my characters in their younger days. The difference in hairstyles is always a fun thing to toy around with. I always imagined Devi with curly hair; something that is easily missed because she keeps it so short. Indra is the only character I have that keeps her hair long:

Image IPB

Funny that my masculine character just happens to have the most luxurious locks. I always thought of her having a bit of Mongolian blood so this shouldn't be surprising.

~~

To answer Tup3xi's earlier question: I see none of my characters as having Marvel/DC-caliber superhero qualities. They are all human, although I sometimes like to draw comparisons to certain religious figures.

And because I really like how this one turned out, I'm going to post it again:

Do you guys keep dynamic shadows on? I find that DS makes the shadows all pixellated and crunchy looking at times, but without it enabled everything gets pitch black instead. Sigh.

I keep dynamic shadows on, tweaked though. At stock they are too low resolution and pixelated.

You can change the shadow resolution to fix that (to an extent)

Here's the link to a guide. The shadow res is under the "configuration file" section.

I had DS off for a while, but I've been playing with it on lately... I really like the dramatic shots you can get with it off, but with it on, it seems more reliably pretty.

When Shepards make that face, I can see she might have some trouble with the focus group.

Since we're BFFs, Tali, I want you to have this invisible rock.

I've always known why Esperanza didn't focus test well. Big scars, VERY rough around the edges, a bit homely, and a tendency to be a total grouch.
"Derp di derp, look at me! I'm Javik! Ooooh, primitives, better toss them out the airlock because that's my solution to EVERYTHING!"

Really? I think it's great...I really like the hair of young Nemain:)

This just reminds me that the people in this thread are too damn talented. I kinda feel out of place here with my lack of skills:?

My sheps are all normal...though 4 for of them do have some ability in biotics which is some kinda special power...but not that special in Mass Effect's storyline. But yeah, they are normal...they feel, they make make mistakes...but they never give up and always fight for what they feel is right.

My gals are normal women thrown into extraordinary situations. Neither of them can do the things required of them alone. This means they must realize that they are not superwomen and rely on others to help with the tasks at hand. Trust, friends and a big calibrated gun are totally necessary to save the galaxy.

Or something.

Asche is learning this anew!

Yeah, I had actually played around with that already and it still looks pretty bad sometimes. Wah, I really don't like the way shadows look in general in this game. Either they're pixellated or they're just WAY too dark.

Anyway, I've been playing another Shepard. I'm not really connected to her, she's just a 'see the stuff my canon didn't do' character. I tried to import one of the faces I used in ME2 but she looked terrible. Ended up remaking her. Mostly I'm just taking vanguardy action shots.

@Ottemis and Krayzi: Thank you. My comment wasn't feigned modesty....it's just that when I compare my sketches to screenshots, I always cringe. And then comes the part of coloring, something which is very daunting in it's own right. Also, Krayzi, I sometimes feel out of place when I read others' fanfictions or look at all the neat Deviant art postings and texture mods. You are not alone in the feeling that way sometimes. :P

A little late to the party but in response to this, my Kassy Shep is defintely more human even if she's an Adept. I've envisioned her with quite a few flaws and weaknesses. She's had multiple choices in her life that could have led her elsewhere instead of an Alliance soldier. She's a reformed bad girl trying to make up for her early life deeds and finds herself in extrodinary situations. She pulls a Gibbs and hides in the elevator when she gets super stressed and she's turned into a desperate idealist just to keep going. Garrus keeps her anchored. :P

ummm....Penny needs help... or I need some help figuring how to fix this small issue. I decided to use the Lazarus mod to see how Penny would look..and I am amazed by the difference...i thought the ME3 import looked fine..

I'm having an issue with her hair...and I don't know how to fix it.. penny was always pure natural in game CC before ME3 (i used texmod for a while, but I played all my femsheps in the last cycle before ME3 came out without even using facial texmods) I don't even know how to use gibbed even in a the most tiny way.

Super glitched on Thessia.

I only took a shotgun since she's a Vanguard, since I hardly ever use a gun. Ran out of ammo and then picked up a missile launcher. Game refused to let me take out my shotgun again, so I spent the whole battle like this. She would just slide around like this when I moved her, though I was able to use my Vanguard powers (but not melee).  It was pretty funny.

Then this happened :(

Alright, wrote a roughdraft of Kas's life that's been floating in my head for awhile now. Tell me what you guys think.

Image IPB

Name: Kassandra Shepard (Kas, Kassy)

Height: 5'4"

Weight: 110lbs

Tattoo: Black Raven wings on her back.

class: Adept

Bonus: Barrier

Bio: Kassy was born to Roy and Gwen Shepard in Seattle, WA. Her father was part of the Alliance and died in the First Contact War when she was 3. Her mother had been fighting aggressive Cancer shortly after she had been born, the doctors theorized it was due to severe eezo exposure. Her mother then died when she was nearly 5 and she was put into foster care for the next 7 to 8 years. It was not a happy environment, she went through several different homes due to the broken system. She ran away from the ones that would abuse her but usually ended up caught by the police and brought back into the system to be put into another 'home'.

When she was 13 she ran away and ended up joining the 10th Street Reds, due to her blonde hair and sweet appearance she was put to work as a dancer in one of their sleazy bars. She became a favorite of the Gang leader, Damien, due to her fiery nature and he kept her close. Kassy simply did these things as a means of survival and became embittered at the world. When she was 15 she got into a fight with a customer who got too handsy while she was dancing and ended up displaying the potential for strong biotic powers. After that Damien got her addicted to Red Sand and made her his ace in the hole in the battles with other gangs. She committed a lot of crimes, mostly smuggling. She practiced at her biotics while at the same time becoming even more addicted to the drug and it didn't take long before she OD'd. She woke up in a hospitable having been found by a woman who was a Catholic nun. Although Kassy didn't fully trust Sister Harriet, the nun helped her come over her addiction but Kassy struggled with her life. After her near death experience and knowing she was only viewed as something to be used by her gang she had trouble coping with what she wanted in life, feeling out of place.

It was at 17 where Sister Harriet introduced her to a close friend, David Anderson, who was in town visiting. At first she was completely rude, snarky, and down right disrespectful to him having no trust in figures in authority given her past. She was still with her gang and Damien didn't like that she was starting to break away from him. He tried to teach her a lesson by attacking Sister Harriet, it was in that moment that Kassy broke her gang ties. She attacked Damien with her biotics but quickly wore herself out. They were both seriously injured but it looked like Damien was going to come out on top until Anderson shot him in the leg and knocked him out.

Anderson saved her life and kept the police off of her when they came and arrested Damien. When she realized Anderson was genuine in his concern for her she realized she wanted something more with her life and the day she turned 18 she joined the Alliance. After she was given the implants to help her biotics she became very talented with her control and created her first singularity at 19. Life in the military was still a struggle for her since she had to unlearn many of her solitary habits in favor of teamwork. A couple of times she almost quit, thinking that she didn't belong with good people but a fellow marine, Dex Uotani, helped her stick with it. He was her first close friend having been a foster kid himself and understood where she came from.

It was when she was 23 that Akuze occurred and he died protecting her from a Thresher Maw. She was stuck on Akuze for 3 days while her squad died around her and she suffered from severe acid burns on her back and hands. After surviving that she grew into the Shepard most know today, swearing to herself that she would never leave anyone on her team behind and protect all she could. Admiral Hackett saw her potential and she was invited into the N7 program. Captain Anderson helped mentor her, both having kept contact when she was just a raw recruit, and after graduating he handpicked her to be part of his crew.

This gif pleases me greatly.

Also, re the superhero question.

If you asked Esperanza, she'd say she's a thug, and the only thing that's changed is her standards in employers. She's been the Council's thug for the past 3 games, and loves it. Though she lost most of her tattoos and scars from HER Red days during Lazurus, if she has a tattoo, it's the Spectre symbol. Probably between her collarbones, right where it REALLY HURTS to get a tattoo.

I don't see her as superhuman, but I DO see her in the same vein as a superhero, in that she's a person in an extraordinary situation who rises to the occasion and accomplishes amazing things.

....She's still a terrible biotic, though. She only biotics with her fists (I pretty much avoid using nonmelee powers on Commander Vanguard). But there, she REALLY biotics. And she has a lot of implants, heavy boneweave, ect, so she's not someone you'd go toe to toe with. Once again, superhero ELEMENTS, but she's just a gal. She breaks down, she toughens up, she makes (a lot) of dumb mistakes and blames herself for all of them.
