Agreed. I prefer un-modded sheps and if I do use gibbed it's very subtle such as eye color or adding a pre-existing short hairstyle. However, I can appreciate the time and frustrations placed into the extensively modded sheps.

For most here modding is about adding diversity through textures, colour or hairstyle(combo's). Excessively modded Sheps in therms of textures I don't see very often here, or rather, modding where they stop looking natural, dolled up or not.

I will admit I am completely addicted to modding, I am glad something like texmod exists so I can give a given Shepard a Mole or a scar or a wrinkle if I wish it so. Something that makes them more recognisable and their own person, in a way.

I think as of now, Lisa is my most modded Shep, with modded hair and haircolor through gibbed, custom eyelashes / facial texture (mole, make-up and eyebrows) through texmod. Not counting improved or custom (casual) outfits.

I do have a slew of unmodded Sheps, I reckon it comes with having 10+ femsheps that you try and distinguish more and more from eachother prior to actually taking them through the games.

Taking Joanna through ME2 again to kill time before the EC. She decided to call her bondmate and borrow one of her suits:wub:. Fits an Adept much more than bulky soldier armour :)

Which reminds me, modders keep looking for a way to get this outfit on Shepard in ME3!

You're right, that outfit does fit an adept shep and Joanna is wearing it pretty well. I'm sure Liara approves.

@Ottemis
I agree with everything you say and I'm guilty of doing the same. I just have a soft spot or rather a nostalgic feeling for the unmodded ones. Then again, all Sheps can be considered modded since none of the in game import generators are perfect.

bah, why do I always windup talking myself in circles? Perhaps it's because I can never get out everything I mean to say the first time .

I mean, I pretty much had to mod Anja's hair color/eyebrow color vector in ME3 if I wanted her to look anything like she had in the previous games.

I had to fix Maria's eyes (and, by proxy, Kendra's) in Gibbed to fix the horrible clipping. So, I am fine with modded FemSheps.

More from Maria's ME2 playthrough.

9.8's and 9.9's across the board... oh, the Romanian judge gave her a 7.2. That has to be disappointing.

And, now for something completely different. During this mission, I had one of the husks bug out and get stuck behind a door. I couldn't shoot him, couldn't use any powers on him. Myself or any of my squad. I had to reload from the Autosave and redo the end part. Oh, well. At least I didn't have to restart the whole mission.

Modded, unmodded, I like em all. I think it all depends on the intended 'look.' So as crazy as it sounds, I don't prefer modded femsheps, I judge on an individual basis.

Agree with Otte :D
A lot of the time it's about adding extra diversity to the character creator and making a femshep that is unique in some manner.

So what's with all the modding, ELE?
I love to tinker. Half the fun for me is looking through the files and seeing what I can do.

The original 'Devon' face texture started out because I wanted to see what Miranda or Jack's makeup looked like on femShep. It can't be done in Gibbed so I started fooling around in texmod.

Hence, Devon, the femShep it was originally made for (who didn't actually make it to the end of ME2, meheh.)

It took on a life of its own a bit after I posted it, and gained momentum from there. Nothing like outside input to spur improvement.

Teagan used the 'Devon' face texture and she stuck. A happy accident of sorts. Since though I have spent probably hours and hours playing with her and tweaking things to my liking.

And here's a waltz down memory lane. I have to thank Captain Crash for his compulsive archiving, because of my own compulsive deleting :P

I made another attempt at a Lena Headey Shepard, and I'm really pleased with how this one turned out. This one is based on a different face structure than my last attempt, and I think it helps, especially in her profile view.

Since I normally play as BroShep I haven't thought about her background. She wasn't planned per se and I'm entertaining the idea that she's my "canon" BroShep's LI.  (heck, that makes me sound even creepier)

Scan me again for creepiness when I'll bring in the double-shep fanfics. :P

You know, to me it's an individual thing. In most cases I like/dislike each femshep on her own merits, but I wouldn't cast a wide net and say that I prefer modded or un-modded femSheps.
I mean Lia started out being made with just the ME and ME2 tools in the original version, but as I continued tweaking and changing things - like changing her eyes from the default ones to the big ones she has now - I found I needed to alter other aspects of her face, like cheekbones and nose placement.

My own forays into modding are very minimalistic, actually - ME/ME2 Lia did not use any other mods than ELE's Devon texmod, which is awesome and managed to give me a way to make those big eyes I gave Lia look even more intense.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Main issue, I think, is that when it comes to modding in ME3 a lot more people are diving into it, simply because of how the character creator now makes it nearly impossible to maintain a consistent look across the series, which is frustrating because the ability to maintain one character across the series was one of the main selling points. Oops, tangent. Anyway I was one of the unlucky ones - I flat out could not get Lia looking like Lia, or even close to with the import, so with help from ELE, I basically had to go back and rebuild her face from scratch in ME3. Even then, it's still not completely in line with the look but it's a look I've come to like of it's own and it's close enough that I can say to myself: "Yeah, that's her."
Had to go into modding the hair as well, since for some reason the flipped the one she was using and it just looked off to me.

Posted Image

So ultimately ME3 Lia is made up of Gibbed tweaks, texmod upgrades and a ton of squinting at the screen trying to get proportions right. And I don't see any way around it - had to do it to get the character that I'd played in 1 and 2 back. The one I got on import certainly wasn't her.

my girls stayed unmodded though me1 and 2 ( i did use texmods for clothing, I had tried the face textures, but went back to in game because texmod made my game buggy in some areas)
I'm not currently using texmod for me3 either. I'm just too lazy to do the work around every time i feel like playing:

all my girls (except penny) are straight from the game (a couple are with a Lazarus import) and a slight bit of gibbed for eye clipping issues and makeup/skin glow/type stuff.

penny got my first bite of gibbed modding and her clippy eyes were giving me fits for most of the game..her lips were not quite right either. this is what I finely finished with:  I did use a texmod for this picture, but it was for a special reason (thane artbook). :)
Posted Image

my others are straight imports with slight gibbed modding for makeup and stuff.

I love seeing what others can do with the modding though, I find it really cool. I was frightened to even try using gibbed and I couldn't leave poor Penny alone, so i can understand the attraction to it. you just want your shep to look the way she is supposed to look and that awful lighting in the cc is horrible especially in the first game.

I have a feeling that Xiu might give me a few fits as well once I start playing her game. her eyes might be too clippy and I might have to fix it if i'm right.

@Akari Tenshi: Lenneth looks great in those screenshots, especially her eyes. Thank you for sharing!

@draken-heart: Liara refused to be left behind during the final battle, no matter how hard Hannah tried to talk her into staying. So there's no need to rescue her from the planet, because she never got stranded there. That's my headcanon, and I'm sticking to it.

@ADLegend21: EDI and Legion both proved themselves to be valuable members of Hannah's crew in the fight against the Collectors. Hannah was initially uncomfortable about seeing the body that almost killed Ash walking around again, but it looked different enough under EDI's control that she was able to overcome this, and made her a welcome addition to the roster for ground missions.

After Legion sacrificed himself, EDI and Hannah held a wake for him in the AI core.

@Elorin Silverblade wrote: As a lifelong spacer, Hannah's only real phobia is the possibility of a loss of pressure - she makes sure that she knows where her helmet or other breathing apparatus is at all times, especially after having suffered the very death she was warned since childhood against.

The possibility that people she cares about will die scares Hannah a great deal, and it's what drove her to excel in N7 training: the better she did there, the better her chances of keeping those few who could manage to get close to her alive. This is why, when the beacon gave her the vision of impending destruction, she fought so relentlessly to stop the Reapers. It's also why the losses of Mordin and Legion were so painful: She was supposed to find a way to stop that from happening, but she couldn't, and they're dead, and it was her fault.

She was also terrified of thresher maws, because of Akuze. It took all the courage she could muster to step onto the sands of Tuchanka to rejoin Wrex, Mordin, and Eve, but she was able to force herself to do it. After Kalros destroyed the Reaper destroyer, however, the icicle of fear that had been lodged in her heart all these years finally began to melt.

For me every single one of my shepards is modded in some way. I didn't start modding until ME2 on the pc. It's the main reason that I started playing on the pc. On the xbox I couldn't make my shepards look different enough. I would make one face I liked, but I couldn't make any others that I liked. With modding I could get the look that I wanted, and make them look different enough. I really didn't like the way my shepards looked without it. I do like being able to change the hair and clothing as well. For me it's also fun, and ELE makes such great mods that I couldn't resist.

About ze modding. In ME1 my Shep was completely untouched, in ME2 I had to change blush scalar vector since the intensity didn't import correctly but in ME3 I had to change colours quite a bit or the colours didn't match previous. Other than colour tweaks, she's totally untouched.

Aout the Modding - ME 1 and ME 2 are completley untouched. The Modding in Mass Effect series is not my thing, far to complicated. I did a lot of modding in Dragon Age with the Tool Set - but you do not have such an option in ME.  So I was forced to use atleast for 1 of my Sheps Mods. I couldn't get her right, not import nor with Lazarus. Thanks to the Modders here I have my Carry back :)

Reyna - completly without Mods, just a few tweaks for ME3

Posted Image

Mel - no mods, minor changes at the import a new hair for her

Posted Image

Carry - YEAH - Thx to the Mods and gibbed I could get my Carry back ( btw - my Ava is the unmodded ME 2 )

Posted Image

Chiara is running without a Mod in ME1 and 2 yet

Posted Image

Depends really how she will be imported to ME3 if I use gibbed and/or Mods for her.

EDIT.:

I just had really to squee and got goospumbps, whilst playing Carry - my Garrusmancer.

This romance is so wonderful and the best made in the whole series.
The Moment she found him at the Refugees  in the Holding Area at the Citadel ...
and he said ( can't write down the exact statement ) -  * Come up whenever you need fresh air, not only cause the people need you - its cause - - I need you *
I just melted away

It seems I'm still not getting what I mean across...or the post is just being used as an excuse to show off modded sheps :P. I personally prefer playing sheps that haven't modded much because I often make them too glitchy when I start messing with bone structure and as I said previously, there's just something nostalgic about them. I did mention I realize the face imports between games warps the original features so technically every shep is modded. Anyways, I have no problem with any that are modded and appreciate/respect those who put a lot of time into getting a shep to work.

Eh, I'll just shut up now. Have a shep.

A repost but I love her eyes in this shot.

this is what i used as a guide. be warned, her/his math is a little goofy - be sure to check what is meant by adding to negative numbers, etc.
