Question of the day (I know this has been asked in different forms, but whatever, and I feel like we have enough fresh blood in here now that it's worth re-visiting):

Do you tend to make similar faces in every game you play with a CC? i.e. does your FemShep have a distant cousin in Skyrim, or a long-lost twin in Dragon Age, or a look-alike in SW:TOR, etc.?

And on that note, who do you model your characters after? Do you tend to make your FemSheps look similar to you (similar hair color, or face structure, etc.) or do base them on actors or people you know? Or do you create entirely new faces?

I don't ever model my characters after anyone.  Mostly because the limitations of most CCs prevent me from ever being satisfied with the outcome.  I tend to just fiddle around with various sliders until I hit something that makes me go aha!  I don't remember what that was with Alice, but I know for DA2 I found an eye shape and color that made my toes tingle, and everything else kind of fell into place around that.

edit: Oops, totp!

And, for good measure, my DAII Hawke

Man, I would be so so so happy if there were magically a way to port DA2 hairstyles into Mass Effect.

I tend to try to make all my character look different but there are certain combos of hair/eyes/skin/etc. that I like to see together. Black hair with blue/pale eyes. Or red hair with blue eyes and freckles. But I've been playing around with blondes more.

Though I HAD to make a Trooper look like Zody Shepard just because it is freaking Jennifer Hale. I mean come on! How could I not?!
Image IPB

I have been known to model characters after some of my own original characters. But I tend to stay away from that since I end up role playing them to have a life of their own.

Hmm... i think I've answerd this before, too, but, um...

Depends. I think I *tend* to play blondes, being a blonde. But it really depends on the game and what 'feels' right for a character. I dunno. I think i tend to create faces with a similar 'feel' to them, but maybe not. I tend to have a lot of backstory in my head when i start into a game, so I build to that.

um...excuse incoming pic bomb:

And now that I recall, the name was randomly generated by the KOTOR CC. It was originally spelled 'Kiri', though, and I adjusted spelling for some random reason. When I re-made my femshep after ME2 came out, i used my own face as a model 'cause working from a live person was easier to make a face from than anything else. but then i switched some stuff up, so i definitely think of her as her own gal now.

my intention was to make her look like a farmgirl turned marine.

Since I didn't want to go through all of ME1 again, and since I am more Emotionally Attached to the ME2 Characters (Including Garrus and Tali), I downloaded the Genesis Comic and Started in ME2.
It wasn't to be as "Complete" as my Canon (Luis (My Name) Shepard, with Miranda Lawson as My Love Interest), so instead of skipping things in ME1 and regretting it, I decided to Download Genesis and use ME1 as a "Back Stoy," or "Prologue."This is Alternate Alright; Her Story is a Two-Parter Mini-Series, and her Love Interest is Liara T'Soni. In the Genesis Comic I made her Romance Liara. I not only want to make an Alternate Playthrough, but I also want it to be Unique.:)

So, here's Quorra Shepard Again:
[evil snips of pics]

Image IPB

I'm glad you reconsidered and are going to still play her. I like Quorra.

As for having different Shepards, well, I'm a big Sci-Fi fan and I love the concept of parallel universes. So, the way I see it is, I have one canon Shep. She's the one in my avatar. The rest are from parallel or alternate universes. So, they can have distinct and unique stories, but not affect my enjoyment of my canon Shep. I don't know if that will work for you, but it works for me.

Well, since I have no skills in the CC, I either go seek out a face that I like or a muddle with the CC until I come up with something that's halfway decent. I don't try to model a face after anybody.

I do have one that I am very proud of, my Saints Row: The Third character. I spent over 90 mins in the CC to make her. Links only cause it's probably off-topic.

If I get the choice and the chance to tailor the looks of a character, there is always an Asche. Asche is always a soldier and has blue eyes. If I'm playing a science fiction/modern character, Asche is blonde. If it's a fantasy character, Asche had dark hair and darker skin.

The reason behind this is because Asche was orignally a spacer character (and bad guy!) for a free form role playing group way back in the day. She was no nonsense, no sugar coat, ends justify the means kind of gal. In fact, she was renegade before Bioware even thought of the option.

Asche has evolved as a character (in each game she is redesigned somewhat, but always retains the no nonsense, tell it like it is attitude) and in some games doesn't even have the name Asche! That's mostly for aesthetic reasons though. Here's some Asche's across the gaming spectrum...

In Rift..a good example of the "classic" fantasy Asche.
Image IPB

In DA2. This Asche is actually named Inez and is blonde. A deviation for sure. As the years passed, so did her hairstyle. Interesting how a  hair style change can reflect what's happening in a person's life.
Image IPB

DAO Asche was dark skinned, blue eyed and dark haired. Sadly I lost all my orginal DAO screens. She was a Cousland and Alastair sacrificed himself for her. First time a video game simply floored me and left me depressed for days. I don't think even after all this time, I could replay her in that game. Here is my most successful mage, however. I didn't model her after anyone in particular.
Image IPB

I am particularly proud of this face. This is Mage Marian from DA2. I never finished her game.
Image IPB

I know I have more characters somewhere. There's and Asche incarnation in WoW too, but those screens are on a disc somewhere I know not at the moment.

Instead have an Evie, who I made to be the antithesis of Asche in the ME series. Evie is brunette and dark eyed on purpose. I know some folks like to use one character and do alternate universe type playthroughs. I can't do that. I can't see someone using Asche's face being as jerky as Evie can be. Evie has her reasions though, for being a jerk and in the end, she gets the job done. Evie is most like how the original Asche character was like. Oh oh oh! Evie was also the character that I used elements of the faces that I see around me everyday. I can't believe I forgot that. I was building Evie and I started looking closely at people. Friends, family, co-workers, guests where I work. I probably came off a little creepy, but it's just fascinating.
Image IPB

Thanks for reading. I truly enjoy being a part of this thread. You guys are pretty great!

edit: Because I remembered something crucial. Crucial! <_<

Kind of.  I've long preferred red headed women, so I've used one in more than a few games.  With Renée, I was looking to make a distinctive FemShep, so I decided to go with giving her a rather prominent nose.  So I made her look striking, but attractive to me.  After all, if I'm going to be looking at a character for how many hours, I might as well find her attractive.

Quite a few of my female characters are similar to her, but only my Fallout: New Vegas one was intentionally supposed to be a sort of alternate version.

All the way back to NWN1. With the exception of the NWN1 and DA2 characters, they all have the same name, Urania.  Though Shepard became Urania Jane which became UJ. The first female character I played w/ a CC was Daggerfall and she was a blonde Nord.  Can't remember her name. In NWN1 I liked the black haired girl the most, and named her after a character I had created who was in turn loosely based on a friend of mine.  I gave my NWN character my comic character's middle name, Urania and since then it kind of became a tradition w/ me. My character has black hair and blue eyes and being a witch, she has a bump on her nose.  There's also a fair amount of room between her nose and mouth. Oblivion was the first game where I tried to recreate her, but it was Dragon Age that I was able to actually capture the look. UJ, while based on my comic character and friend, eventually took on a life of her own.

I decided to play former default a little before ME1 was released for xbox. I was familiar with her face having spent hours viewing all the videos showing how the cc would work. I decided back then that i would use that particular face and bring only minor changes to it, such as hair and eye color. I found out later that the face couldn't be altered. After spending weeks in the cc trying in vain to recreate her, i finally decided to settle for former default the way she came (ginger hair;green eyes).
Overall i don't have any reference in mind while creating faces in games. ME was the first one in which i decided to use generic settings for my main character.

Kylie/Kelly are original as far as I can make them. Others are (roughly) based upon a fictional character, though Abigail is based off a description in a book (all it really says about her looks is she has dark hair and grey eyes) and Edward's my best guess of what an "all grown up" version of Radical Edward from Cowboy Bebop would look like. Elf is based off a webcomic character and Riza is based off an anime character.

I was realizing, looking through my game pics, that all my characters have exceptionally practical hair. It's either short or it's pulled back somehow. I think that is the only true constant in my character design. They must not have sweaty necks when battling evil.

Quorra looks good in the Red too, but I fear it makes her look as if she is Renegade, and she is not. The Blue looks...too revealing, as if anyone could spot her. I I just can't make up my mind: Blue, Red, or Black? Her Armor will be different in ME3, but still....for now, I have to choose. Thank god the other isn't green. >.>

Usually I make my custom girls. But in Mass Effect I play as default FamShep. I just love her the way she looks.

What about other games... Most of my characters have dark hair and blue eyes. Some of them are similar to my non canon (already deleted) Mikaela Shepard based on Megan Fox.
Others are not.  Just  look a bit like her. But not the same since  many of them came before Mass Effect :)

Here they are (not all, but some of them):

TES 5 Skyrim - Imperial Septima Varn (Warrior-Mage)

Divinity 2 - Anna Macht

TES 4 Oblivion - Imperial Niaria Nox (Battlemage)

TES3 Morrowind - Imperial Marygold Flower (Mage)

Fallout 3 - Alicia Kathryn Jones

Fallout New Vegas - Selma Vanderbolt

Neverwinter Nights 2 - Andromeda "Rommie" Crows (Druid)

But some of my girls look differently. Like these :)

i am partial to the red. red seems like shep's color, the n7 and all, though i personally use it rarely, since it doesn't look great on my shep. with her hair color, your shep looks good in it. i don't think it looks renegade so much as just very confident. actually the black looks mroe renegade to me, but maybe that's because jih shepard uses it.

honestly, though, the armor is kind of a personal take on it. i've seen full up renegades use all blue (moira) or red (kallen) and paragons love red or all black or what have you. i tend to choose armor types to make shep look like she has a certain build (lanky, buff, skinny, etc). but that's me.

Hmm... well, my characters don't necessarily look alike but they do share a common feature (wide faces). I tend to make them women of color too, since I'm one and we're not exactly overrepresented. That, or blondes... I don't know why. But they do tend to be similar personality-wise.

Mass Effect - Madelene (paragade)

Beatrice (uber-renegade)

Fallout 3 - Felicidad

New Vegas - Lenny

Only including my humans here, because I tend to play non-human when I can. My Origins characters are dwarves and elves, my Skyrim character is a boy kitty (Khajiit).

I don't have a constant in character creation through games, though where I used to avoid making blondes, since Mass Effect i seem to have been cured of that with more blondes then not. I'm a blonde myself, I think I pref the more exotic, but often miss contrast in the faces when I make them too dark. Recurring I suppose. Dark hair light eyes, Light hair dark eyes, really broad jaws.

Lost alot of character pics last re-install, but meh, no matter.

I tend to make Kallen a lot. when I got the dragon age's from gamefly I made Kallen Hawke and my warden was named Kallen. When I got New Vegas I made Kallen. Fable 3 my first queen was made to look like Kallen, even Guitar Hero world tour,I have a female guitarist named, you guessed it, Kallen. Other than that I, like YukiDama, do make POC's. Kallen's brother Adam is dark skinned (as is her father Keith Shepard who I introduce in Guns and Poems, Kallen take more after Hannah than he does) and anyone else I do is probably going to have some darkness to them. It depends on how I'm feeling when I enter the CC. Like when I made D.A. and added that she was Anderson's daughter via sperm donation so she dosn't know until Liara gets a hold of he shadow Broker info network. Her skin tone is similar to his and they do sort of resemble each other. while I played her I always rp'd her saying things like "will do Dad" after their calls ended. oops I'm rambling.

I tend to avoid blonde hair and I seem to pick blue or blueish eye colours. I don't try to make clones but they probably end you looking somewhat similar. Same applies to male characters. It might have something to do with my own colours. I do not model my characters to look like any particular person. As for naming, I'm fond of short no nonsense names for girls; kinda similar thing for boys too but I don't have quite a strong preference to any particular boy name.
