By the way, her second name is Thea.

I hope no one who was around her ever had a lisp. "Tiia Thea Thepard"

Her parents had this great burst of creativity when they were deciding the second name. Thus she has basically two same names.

Actually, how used to being referred to as "Shepard" is your FemShep? Is she resentful, tired of it, or just resigned to the whole thing?

I actually covered that few pages back, kinda:

EDI: Shepard, I’ve noticed that when you are off duty, some call you Tila. I find that odd. Considering your parents backgrounds, I don’t think that naming child as "state/considiton/room/situation" makes sense. The difference in pronouncing your name and Tila is quite large too.
Posted Image
Tiia: Yeah, I’ve noticed that. People seem to make that mistake from time to time. I guess they read it too quickly. No one made that mistake when I was a child, though. I have to admit that it feels a bit weird.
EDI: That’s probably an accurate interpretation. I would feel weird if someone called me EDY.
Posted Image
Tiia: It doesn’t bother me that much but at least you don’t make such mistake – and most call me commander or Shepard anyway. But yeah, my name is indeed Tiia instead of Tila and I do prefer my own name.

To be more precise, she prefers her own name (and preferrably a name that actually is hers Posted Image) to Shepard in non-formal situations.

merylisk wrote...
How did you come up with your Shepard's first name? Is there a story/explanation behind why you chose the name you did?

Tiia originates from Dorotea which means gift of God. She get that name because they felt so blessed to have her.

Hrist doesn't mind being referred to as Shepard at all, she's used to it. In fact very few people get to call her by her given name.

merylisk wrote...

Anja doesn't mind!

Hmm that actually leads me to a question of my own that I've been meaning to ask for a while.

How did you come up with your Shepard's first name? Is there a story/explanation behind why you chose the name you did?

I'm terrible with character names, so, as I've admitted severel times before in this very thread, my three Shepards are all named after the Valkyries from the Valkyrie Profile games. Those being Lenneth, Hrist and Silmeria. Through Hrist is actually the name of a valkyrie from Norse mythology and means something like 'Earth Shaker', I believe.

Why did I pick those particular names? Well I really like the name Lenneth and, when it came to naming my other Shepards, I decided to stick with the same theme.

I guess now is a good a time as any to answer my own question!

Basically, the names I use for pretty much all female characters that I make in any games are:
Anja
Esme
Mara
Jaina

All of them can be traced back to Star Wars games my twin sister and I used to play when we were kids. Like, make-believe games that we made up, not video games.

My Warden in DA:O was Esme, in DA2 I had Mara Hawke, and when I made my Shepard, Anja just fit. I just looked it up, and apparently it means "favor, grace," which I think is actually perfect.

With Naomi... I mainly named her that because I love this song.

I love it when coincidence, or synchronicity, happens. I happened to pick Jennifer because I didn't want to use 'Jane' but wanted to retain the canon 'J' initial and 'Jennifer' was pretty much the first name that came to mind. I hadn't realised - or wasn't conscious at the time - that Jennifer Hale was also the VA for FemShep but that only cemented in my mind that FemShep's name could only be 'Jennifer' in my personal headcanon. All my 'default' BioWare heroines (i.e. Dragon Age series) are redheads so it was a given that Jennifer would also follow in that tradition, but I decided that I wanted her to be very pale, white even. As it happens, it turns out that 'Jennifer' derives originally from Guinevere, which means 'White Ghost', so her first name couldn't be more appropriate if I had planned it from the start.

Jennifer does find it a little odd that no-one ever calls her by her first name (not even her bondmate, Liara!) but she's usually too busy saving the galaxy to really give it much more than the occassional passing thought (like when Jacob says his partner wants to call their baby 'Shepard').

It was a first time when I decided to keep default name (as well as default appearance) for my character (in other games I give my girls different names).
"Jane Shepard" I like how it sounds. Also by her story my Shepard is a half Russian half Canadian. In Russian her name sounds like Zhenya (full name Evgenia).

And four non canon Shepards I made. Though I don't play them, but still...
Mikaela based on Megan Fox and named after Mikaela Banes from Transformars movies.
Diana named after me :D I wanted to make a FemShep like me, but failed :)
Polina named after the Russian FemShep voice actress Polina Scherbakova and based on her appearence.
Dina Jane is something between Diana and default Jane. That's why I gave her a double name

Huh. Haven't been around here in a while. Hi all! And look, I'm just in time to answer questions. :)

razviolet wrote...

A random question here for y'all and I have no clue if it's been asked before...Would your Shepard ever retire? If so, where? What would they do with their retirement or in general in a galaxy without anymore reapers?

Never. Jakarta wouldn't have the first clue what to do with herself without the Alliance; service is her life, all she's ever aspired to, and a huge amount of her self-image and sense of identity is bound up in being an Alliance Marine. Also, she takes the "Spectre" thing fairly seriously as well, in terms of the responsibility she sees that position carrying just by itself, and also the position she has as humanity's first and the kind of implications that could have for humanity in the future. So, in a post-Reaper world, she'd grab Ash and Garrus and anyone else who wanted to come and zip around in the Normandy pretty much the same way she did in ME1; doing whatever Spectre stuff she was assigned to at the moment between answering special ops calls from Hackett.

thompsmt wrote...

Jakarta prefers it. The other options would be her Academy nickname ("Shipshape"), which may be an affectionate bit of mockery, but is still mockery, or her first name, which... well, is a little too appropriate even for a proud diehard Spacer like her.

(Three or four people are allowed to call her "Kari" but Ash and Kasumi both have their own nicks for her already so they don't bother, and relatives don't really count.)

merylisk wrote...

Most of the time I trawl baby name sites until I find a name/meaning combination that feels right for the character I have in mind, which I can spend hours on. Jakarta, though, was a moment of pure perfect serendipity. As soon as I read the ship data in the Codex in ME1 that said Alliance cruisers are named after cities, I knew my Spacer Shep's uncreative parents were going to name her after a city too. The symbolism was just too perfect to resist, and it suited my backstory about Hannah and Ratu not expecting a kid and not entirely knowing what to do with one. After that it was just a matter of picking the right city, and I'd already decided she was going to be Indonesian, and right there in Indonesia there's a city with a fantastic name that fits pretty decently with "Shepard." I honestly felt like the stars had aligned, a bit, there, I never end up with names that unique and perfect.

Even if Jane would have survived the final battle, she would never retire. Because she can't imagine her life without dangerous missions and battles for good. She is a soldier, after all.
Even if she would have survived the last battle with the Reapers (actually she did in the Red ending), she would probably marry her LI Kaidan (back then I thought it will be Jacob) on Earth and then... return to things she did before. Jane can't imagine her life without Alliance. It was hard for her to work with Cerberus. And those months she spent under house arrest were a serious trial for her. If you want to defeat Jane just take her ship away from her.

Sage, I'm glad I finally caught up with your fanfic, so I can read new ones right away. But, that also means I have to wait for each chapter and not just immediately go to the next one. I read chapters 60-80 of Part 3 all in one sitting.

I loved this chapter. Right up until where you ended it. You are getting too good at knowing where you end your chapters. *shake fist*

Looking at Gabby, just wanted to make a brief comment about scars in general. Scarring as defined by the game implies, to me at least, the idea of some degree of remorse/regret over most renegade choices made during the course of the game - wich is a good thing for most of my characters. It's an apparent sign of what i would call a conflicted renegade - again based on Dr Chakwas assessment - and my own. I then find myself surgically removing scars for what i view as a non conflicted renegade as the manifestation of  scars (as a symptom) doesn't fit  with the abscence of remorses.

I know this is not the right place to vent this, but FFS: why do I get only crap like character customizations and ****ty assault rifles when I spent 99000 Creds on a Premium Spectre Pack.

It would have been better if you can buy **** individually, then at least you'd only have the stuff you want and need. It's possible in an old-ass game like CounterStrike, so why not in ME3.

It is very bizarre, I agree. Even if it cost hella lotta creds to unlock a specific char, 'twould be worth it to save them up. I got lucky in that i've mostly unlocked chars (Esp. asari), but i have crap for guns still. i've only gotten a nice shotty and sniper rifles, but as i suck with sniping, i've been rolling vanguard to get some use out of only good gun.

Ugh, I had this fairly big post all typed up and ready to go, and then I accidently deleted it. Ugh.

Short version!

@sagequeen, you're a good writer. Thank you for sharing your writing with us!!

Facecodes, girls to boys.

Asche: http://social.biowar...4455/208706.jpg
Eviehttp://social.biowar...4455/208707.jpg

I like biotics and tech but I will always default to guns. Too many dodged warps makes Ashoken sad.

Asche says, use a gun. Harder to outrun or jump away from a bullet.

Posted Image

Names! Asche is German for Ash, who was my original character nigh 15 years ago. Evie is a pet name of Eve which is Life in Hebrew. Asche is a 'traditional' name for me. Evie was picked because I liked it. If I'm looking for new names, I check the baby name sites. Otherwise I have a couple of goto fantasy names (names I made up) I use.

@LadyAly, sorry to hear about your fender bender. Hope you and the other driver are not injured and the cars can be repaired easily, cheaply and fast!

MP rewards systems sucks, but as long as some folks pay real money (seriously?) for random rewards, I think we are stuck. I am still enjoying the play itself. If anyone needs a MP friend, look me up. I mostly play silver and some bronze.

The only good rifle I got is basically the Phaeston, as it delivers an astonishing amount of lead to the target in short order, but the rest of the stuff I got is, well, useless. At least at most.
Also: In the Demo I got the Carnifex almost immediately, and here where are in the retail game, and I still haven't got it.
