Thane's death was a serious low point for Berlitz, but every cloud has a silver lining. When she got back to the Normandy, guess who was waiting for her?
Kaidan was still his old self. He always had a knack for sounding very intense and serious when in reality he was rambling and not making any sense. What it came down to was: if he wouldn't have given in, would she have shot him too, just like she shot Udina?
Short answer: No.
Long answer: Well...

...no. She shot Udina because she hated him. She would never shoot Kaidan because she cared about him. Maybe not in the way he would've liked, but still.
The next mission was on a planet named Gellix. Traynor once again proved to be an incredible asset to the team by tracing the location of a group of ex-Cerberus scientists, something that the other specialists of the Alliance weren't able to do yet. It quickly became clear, however, that Cerberus also had found them...
It was a small wonder that the scientists had been able to hold out as long as they had, although they had help: good ol' Jacob Taylor was there, although even he was about to be overwhelmed by Cerberus forces. Luckily, Berlitz was there to pull his ass out of the fire.

She was really considering to ask money for these kind of rescue missions, but as Jacob was an old friend, she figured she could make an exception for him.
He introduced her to the one leading this group of refugees, Dr. Brynn Cole. Nice enough woman, only a little bit to arrogant for her own good. No doubt they were smart, but those dead bodies on the landing pad, both Cerberus and ex-Cerberus, indicated that they weren't smart enough. Anyway, Jacob went to the med bay for some much needed medical attention and Dr. Cole was going to make preparations for the evacuation. Berlitz was once again amazed by her own conversation skills when she succesfully supported a scared scientist with only a few sentences, but in the docking bay was also a much less pleasant surprise waiting for her. When she walked up the stairs of the docking bay she saw none other than Dr. Gavin Archer standing in front of her.

Apparently, he had grown a conscience after the last time they had met. He had heard about Grissom Academy and was hoping she could him whether David was save or not. She didn't know what it was, but something inside her stopped her from lying, even though she wanted to. Archer was grateful for the information and thanked her for saving David... twice. It seemed best to just walk away, because Berlitz was still very much considering doing something to him. Something involving a gun and a bullet.
She had bigger things to worry about, though, she soon learned. For some reason Dr. Cole didn't think it was important to inform her about the families of the scientists that were on the station as well. In an act of retribution, Berlitz swept the place clean of credits, armor, gun mods and even a pistol! Yes, at long last she was reunited with the love of her life: the Carnifex. And not a moment too soon, because there were anti-air guns to be fixed and Cerberus soldiers to be killed.
The remainder of the mission went reasonably well. Kaidan proved he still was an asset to the team and Garrus proved that he could deal with any sort of giant gun, not only the Thanix ones on the Normandy. All refugees and their families made it out alive and shot in the stomach or not: Jacob could apparently take on an entire army of Cerberus soldiers and mechs as long as his girlfriend, the charming *ahem* Dr. Cole of course, was watching.
Back on the Normandy there was a whole bunch of unanswered mail waiting for her. Strangely enough, both and Kaidan sent her one too. When did they write those? No matter. There was one mail that made her heart race with anticipation.
Shepard: I need an excuse to tear myself away from all these monitors. Come see me the next time we dock on the Citadel.
LiaraFinally! Berlitz needed to do al whole bunch of crap on the Citadel anyway. It was time to tell Liara what she really wanted...
She found the Asari on a balcony overlooking the many gardens of the Presidium. She had to admit: the sight was beautiful, if you could overlook the smoking rubble left by the Cerberus attack. Berlitz had decided to let Liara do the talking; she didn't want to look too desperate. They talked about Liara's childhood, about her mother...
And then she said it.
Just... friends. Berlitz could hear the words echo in her mind. "Just... friends... Just friends... Just friends. Just friends. Just friendsjustfriendsjustfriendsjustfriends...!"
And then she just... snapped.
"NOOOOO!!! GOD! NO, GOD PLEASE, NO! NO!!! NO!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"
Of course, everyone was looking at her, but Berlitz didn't care. She took a few deep breaths to steady herself and then grabbed the shoulders of Liara, who was too shocked to say anything.
"Liara T'soni, am I 'just a friend' to you?"
"Wh--wha--whatareyoutalkingabout?"
Good. There was the easily-flustered girl she fell in love with three years ago.
"I am talking about you and me, Liara. What is it that we have? Friendship? Love? Something more maybe?"
"Sh--Shepard, I--I don't see how..."
OK, maybe she was a little too forceful here. Berlitz let go of Liara's shoulders and instead took the hands of the woman into her own as gentle as she could.

"I'll start then," she said. "Liara, I love you. And whatever happens... I'd like to spend my life with you."
"I--I love you too, Shepard. And I also want to... share my life with you. I--I'm sorry that I... I mean, I wasn't certain that..."
"Shut up and come with me."
Berlitz grabbed Liara's hand and dragged her away from the balcony and to the nearest elevator.
"Wait, Shepard! Where are we going?!"
"To the Normandy. We're going to have sex... as bondmates."
Liara's eyes became big and she blushed as she saw all the people staring at them. "Oh, Goddess..."

Obviously I suck at romance scenes. Hoped you like it anyway.
