Every day that passed reinforced Kyla's personnal vendetta against Cerberus and TIM. It was hard to admit, but, at times, she had agreed with them. Notably, she understood the necessity of studying one's ennemy to increase one's chances of winning. She had no philosophical problem with studying Reaper technology and using it against them, which is why she eventually agreed to leave the Collectors' base to TIM.
However, this use of the ennemy had to remain within certain moral boundaries, especially when one considered himself or herself to be part of the "good guys". And one was to remain warry of the ennemy's technology dangers. In the case of the Reapers, the danger was clear cut: indoctrination. That alone should be enough to moderate any enthusiasm in reverse-engineering their technology...
Clearly, Cerberus had overstepped way into the dark side, and its interference had grown to endanger the whole war effort against the Reapers. What was Cerberus thinking? That they could defeat the invasion just by themselves? She considered now that is was an almost sacred duty to fight, --no, to eradicate, Cerberus. She had other reasons to motivate her crusade, but they remained mostly under the surface for now. What she did not know, is that soon, she would be faced with even more horror from Cerberus...

A few days after extracting Jacob and the scientists from Gellix, Kyla answered a distress call from an Asari base on Lesuss. Some could have argued that it was not the Normandy's role to answer such calls, to which Kyla would have answered that this was essentially a matter of politics. The Asari were the last of the Council species that had not committed any significant ressources to the united army Kyla was building, even after the events on the Citadel. Increasing trust by performing such missions was thus essential. It became even more evident when the team understood the real purpose of the colony they had landed on.

Progressing through the monastry, they meet another of Kyla's old teammates... Upon seeing the Justicar standing in one of those once elegant rooms, Kyla realised that she should have guess about her presence as soon as she had heard about the Ardat-Yakshis. Samara had three daughters in this situation, and Kyla had put her life at serious risk to catch one...
Kyla had always been interested in Samara's committment to her cause. The Justicar were a fascinating aspect of Asari culture, with both positive and negative aspects. While stuck in Vancouver under house arrest, Kyla had taken the time to read more about them. Their rigid black and white morality was the subject of much debate among Human xeno-sociologists. It was seen a good thing for the long-lived Asaris that the Justicar order was so limited in numbers, as it was the literal embodiement of moral conservatism. And many humans could not wrap their head around the idea that such a powerful order was unable, and unwilling, to weight in any manner on the Asari's government. Of course, the Asaris or the Justicars themselves would probably think most of this to be sillyness untered by a species that had barely made its first footsteps among the stars...

Kyla had to drag Falere to the elevator so they could escape. Her sister was gone a long time ago, but the young Asari couldn't accept the fact. The Reapers' creatures, that would come to be known as Banshees, were truly horrifying, perhaps one of their most perverse creation. She realised that at that moment, she had "finally" seen the perverted versions of all the major races... and she also realised that those Banshees were the signal that the Asaris were going to experience the full weight of the Reapers' assault soon. Really soon.

Once again, the Normandy flew to the Citadel to get resupplied and to allow some shore leave to its crew. It was much necessary, as usual... It allowed Kyla to take care of a few Spectre business, as well as more personnal ones. She met Miranda in a strangely empty appartment on the Presidium, only to give her access to Alliance resources. Kyla was getting increasingly worried at Miranda's secrecy regarding her father and her sister; she had actually tried to use Spectre resources, out of frustration, to track her down, but it failed. Miranda was extremelly good at hidding...
Kyla had grown to appreciate the fomer Cerberus operative. Actually, she though they were similar in a sense. They had both accepted to invest in studying the ennemy and its technology, and had both backed down from Cerberus when it had stepped into murky waters. Miranda had some difficulty confessing to Kyla her sentiments about the control chip. Kyla hold no grudges, and confessed that placed in Miranda's situation, she would probably have proned a similar measure.
The conversation did not alleviated Kyla's lingering (and deeply hidden) doubt that she might not be human anymore. Maybe the "control chip" was a simple way to describe the shackles that are imposed on AIs? At least, she was sure that if really human or an AI, she couldn't be harmed by Cerberus in that way.

To be continued...

@Rikketik: Well done on the
intermission stories. I'm coming to think it might be one of the best
way to make each of our Shepard unique (you said something similar,
actually), since after all the main story is the same for everyone. So
what happens "behind-the-scene" is the most original and open.
As for my new femshep, Julia, here's what she looks like:

She could still use a bit more work, especially the color of her eyes -- the brighter the better if you ask me -- and her mouth -- which is a bit too somber. I don't know if you can see it on these screens (I had to use my old camera, so the quality isn't great) but I tried to make her look a bit Asian-like. As for her backstory: still working on it, but I have plenty of inspiration.

A paralel can always be established between Cerberus and Shepard's own duality: i sometimes find a lot of similarities between my renegade Shepard and TIM. Often the scale of their actions is to me what set them apart. This was true up until the end of Arrival. From the beginning of ME3, it is clear that Mr Harper had blown a fuse and made the jump from TIM to TIF(The Illusive Fail ). He had to be put down.

I thought the exact same thing as I exited the cinema. "The Dark Knight Rises" is a worthy end because it builds through the themes and subtexts established previously and then weaves them together for a thematically appropriate conclusion. It was a really worthwhile, hard-won ending. And yes, the anti-ME3 is a very apt description. Interestingly enough, Joseph Gordon-Levitt said something in an interview a few days ago: "Most big-budget films aren't actually trilogies - they'll call it a trilogy but really it's just one film with a sequel and then another sequel, this on the other hand actually feels like a third act and conclusion of the story."That right there is the crux of the matter - BioWare kept throwing the word 'trilogy' around when in essense they weren't making one. Maybe they thought they were, but their content seems to prove otherwise, which is why each game is so completely disjointed from the others.JamieCOTC wrote...

Saw "The Dark Knight Rises" today. I won't spoil anything, but yeah, that's how you end a hero's story. It's almost the anti-ME3 as the ending is the best thing about it, not that the rest is bad by any means. Anyway, something similar may have worked for Shepard.

@xbb1024: Very impressive what you did for Adia, Ember, JinHyun and Verona. What is their respective psyc profile?
I'll start with Ember Shepard, since she's my first FemShep and the one I'm doing my insanity play-though with.

Ember is a spacer. She was raised on ships - she spent youth playing in the the service ducts and hanger bays, especially when the adults told her not to. To Ember, home wasn't a place with a fixed static address, it was anywhere she could rest under an unobstructed view of the moving stars. Life was about adventure, about seeing as many new places as possible, about meeting as much of the wondrous diversity of the galaxy as possible. When she finally came of age, it was only natural that she would enlist in the Alliance.

Ember's first hand experience with different ships and places served her well. She excelled during recon training, and performed commendably as an advanced recon scout. It wasn't long before she was recommended to a black ops unit, and her intelligence gathering work was instrumental in preventing many flash points from becoming full scale wars.

Ember's experiences with cultural diversity in her youth and operating in small 3 person teams in hot zones during her career has emphasized the importance of having alliances. To Ember, anyone could become a potential ally, or at the very least helpful, if a common goal could be found. She rejects the Illusive man's dogma of 'human superiority', and felt conflicted about what to do with the Reaper base and the potential intel it holds.

A good thing that could have been shown is when TIM became indoctrinated and stopped having motivations completly of his own. It is true that in ME2 he's a pretty complex character and he's arguing his case well. You can agree or disagree with his pro-human agenda or with his methods. In ME3, since it is established from the beginning that you are not cosying up with Cerberus anymore (they are your ennemy, whatever happen), I think they loose a certain ammount of depth (it's not necessary in terms of story-telling to devellop the bad guys that much, sad but true). I reckon that ME3 takes places over several months, so TIM could still not be indoctrinated at the beginning... It could have been interesting to see a gradual shift of Cerberus methods. You move toward more and more horrific things they have done, but they are all shown to have been going on for some time. Like Sanctuary, it cannot be a recent thing. Cerberus could have been made more an more alien with each mission.SaturnRing wrote...
@SebAusFR: From a ME2 perspective, it
is a valid point to wanna make the Collector Base available for TIM to study - to better help fight the Reapers. One of my biggest regrets in ME3 was to see his motivations reduced to simple indoctrination. He is such a complex character and although horrific most of the time, his methods are nuanced enough to go beyond a mere concept of reaperization -well to me at least.
A paralel can always be established between Cerberus and Shepard's own duality: i sometimes find a lot of similarities between my renegade Shepard and TIM. Sorry I forgot to mention it (actually there's a little text coming in the next update) but yes, she saved Samara. Of course, she wouldn't let one of her team kill herself in front of her without doing anything. Loosing Thane was already enough emotions, she does not want to loose anyone else.LadyAly wrote...

And this leads me to a FemShep Question : How are the thoughts about Justicars and the code they are follow ?
Kyla thinks that their code is too rigid, as it is impossible to account for all possible situations a priori (what the code claims to do) and there is no room for nuance. And Kyla knows very well that the world is not black & white. She thinks the Justicars are a good institution per se, but they should open to reform to allow a more balanced approach to justice.

I have certainly enjoyed Carry's story. Control seems the perfect choice for her. Sad to see her journey end, but so happy to have been on it with her. Well done, @LadyAly!
As for Justicars, Asche understood the reason for the code and the Justicars themselves. Life is chaotic. Justicars live the way they do to impose some sort of order on their own lives. What they do just happens to bleed into the lives of others and there is where conflict lives. Plus, there was all the lying about Ardat-Yakshis. Those Asari were so full of secrets and lies.
Lida was fly by the seat of her pants kind of girl. The Justicar code was far too rigid for her, but again, being military, she understood the need for some to follow it.
I don't know how Erin will react just yet. I suspect she would embrace it, were she Asari, and become a Justicar herself.
Welcome to all the new faces. I'm looking forward to reading and viewing each of your Shepard's adventures. And well done everyone. I say this periodically because it's true. Thank you all for sharing. One of the highlights of my day is checking out this thread and seeing all the sweet art, screen caps and reading the stories behind them.
Now, have some Erin.
Much to her surprise, exposing Saren as a traitor got her the first human SpecTRe nod. She had to wade through a lot of red tape and meet with these guys...

When it was all over, she got what she considered much more important. A handshake from Capt. Andersen. It seemed she'd earned his respect and some answers. He told her about his past with Saren. Fascinating stuff.

Udina was his usual ass, but Erin listened in stoic silence. It was hard to be intimidated by the man with a Krogan watching her back.

Then it was back on the Normandy, now under her command. She gave a stirring speech that she personally didn't feel. It wasn't her ship. The Normandy was Andersen's no matter what he said. She vowed to keep it safe for him, which could be a tall order considering her mission.

But let's jump back a bit. After recieving the SpecTRe nod, Erin ran into Admiral Kahoku. He told her a squad of marines under his command had gone missing. He could get help from no one. Suspicious enough to give Erin that sinking feeling in her stomach. She promised she would search for them. Luckily, she would be headed to the Artemis Tau cluster to look for Dr. Liara T'soni.

I never thought of a Spacer the way you describe her. It is refreshing and original. It ties up very well with some of the skills Ember gained from that kind of life - and also to the fact that she is very open minded and favors versatility. It is a definite plus that she acquired early on a good understanding of Alien culture and can use that particular skill to her advantage. She seems very well adjusted tend to make the most of what she experiences, good or bad.
Is she your main Shepard(canon)?
