If you've heard Patrick Weekes' talk about how he first approached Traynor, it's exactly like a straight man writing a lesbian character. He started out by falling into a few tropes about her "wrestling with" her sexuality, and only after getting a good thumping from a gay friend/coworker of his did he change it up. Of course he ended up with a stereotype which is less cliche'd but just as bad. The whole time I was reading the interview I kept thinking How about you start out by thinking of them as people and go from there?

I always liked what George R.R. Martin said about writing female characters. When asked by George Stroumboulopoulos: "There’s one thing that’s interesting about your books. I noticed that you write women really well and really different. Where does that come from?" He said: "You know, I’ve always considered women to be people." Same goes a cross the spread, we're people not *gender/sexual orientation/race* label here.
You can't approach Traynor and Shepard's romance as two lesbians. That is one thing I like about Liara's romance. It seemed like it was written for Maleshep since they never anticipated Femshep's popularity. I want to romance Sam but the whole "Hi we barely know each other wanna bang in the shower?" is a bit of a turn off for me. Couldn't they have just played chess and had some simple flirting? The rest of the romance is wonderful its just arranged backwards.
Is the armor a mod as well? I really like it. Her face looks gorgeous as well.

It's so fun playing Naomi, since she's a Renegade with a smart mouth and a hot temper who likes to solves problems with guns. Especially after Anja, who was all about avoiding casualties and being diplomatic and setting an example.
About Traynor: even though I don't really mind it anymore, that shower scene was a bit... embarrassing... to watch at first. It made me feel uncomfortable, even though I am a guy who normally thinks girl on girl is hot. I mean, that must be saying something, right?
So instead of that shower I rather see the scene play out like this: Shepard invites Traynor to her cabin for a night of fun and games. Traynor suggests they play chess, does that adorable "but I'm just a simple Comm Specialist..." thing when Shepard says she's got the feeling that she's walking into a trap and then Traynor goes on to, indeed, completely pulverize Shepard. Pretty much like the "just friends" version of the scene already goes.
But!
In this scene there's undoubtedly romantic tension between the two of them, especially from Traynor's side. Shepard can then, when the night comes to an end, make her choice:
A) She can reciprocate Traynor's feelings and say she would love to go on a date to the Citadel the next time they are there. She can say that she's glad that Traynor didn't run back to the labs and that she considers her a (good) friend.
Then the conversation ends and...
In case you chose A: Shepard gives Traynor a playful kiss on the cheek (or vice versa) and says she looks forward to the date.
In case you chose B: they toast to Shepard's horrible chess skills and the scene just fades to black.
If you chose A, you can then go visit her on the Citadel, outside of Purgatory. Shepard and Traynor will both reiterate their romantic interest in each other, kiss and then walk inside Purgatory for drinks, dancing, romance and just general happiness.

That being said... I am writing this ahead of time in Notepad and there are twenty pages to go through. Twenty. There is no way I can comment on each individual Shepard that was posted. First off, the post would be way too long. It's human nature to just skip long posts. I do my best to NOT do that, but sometimes I catch myself doing it, too. And I would probably kill my brain trying to reply to them all. So, instead, I will just list each person that posted a Shepard. That way, you will at least know I looked at them.
There are some great questions and posts I also want to reply to.
I will, however, pick about 3-5 Shepards (at somewhat) random to comment on. And it will be more than one sentence. As I type this, I have no idea which ones I will pick. I will endeavour to be more timely with replies since I enjoy commenting on other Shepards. They are just so good. Really inspires me to attempt (once again) to make my own and not just reuse a face from someone else and tweak the hair/eye colors.
After that, I will comment on new Shepards. Or at least, new to me. And then, there will be a surprise at the end.
@Jane Shepard: I love Mikaela. She is so beautiful. Yes, part of it is cause of the classy hairstyle, but a lot of it is her face. She just looks so good.
@raziel1980: OMG. Stacia in ME3 is GORGEOUS. It's the combo of that facetex, hair and her face. Just... wow. If she existed in real life.... she'd be one more woman that turned me down. And, I can totally see the comparisons to Eve Myles. I happen to think Eve Myles is beautiful as well.

@raziel1980 Thankies :happy: But she had to stay on hold 'til Saturday. Actually she is struggling with Thane's dead - but her old feelings for Kaidan are still there. Not sure if both finding the way to come together again. She told Kaidan frankly about her love to Thane and that his brutal refusal left her crestfallen behind. But Chiara and Thane had during his time in Hospital - she did visit him every time she was there - some heated debate. He told her dry and stoic that she still had feelings for Kaidan and he would appreciate to see his beloved Siha happy after he has to go.

It is bittersweet and I actually like the way your working Chiara's storyline romance wise. I guess I just liked Thane's romance to much to really wanna play or put Alicia through the end of ME 3. I think having her game end with cronos base suits her which in and of itself is sad as she was my original femshep.

The romance being backwards is an apt way to describe it though I'd say it's almost a case of mistaken priorities on BioWare's part. There's a focus on the romance part of things as opposed to the character development side of things, Traynor as a character is actually in some ways stagnated or harmed by the romance since triggering it actually cuts the chess scene which is one of her biggest moments in the game. Which is a real mistake for something that exists largely in the subtext of the game and the characters, which is the realm of the romances in BioWare's games. The pay off is always the emotional core of the romance, the dynamic between the two characters is what characterizes the beats of the relationship between the player character and the squadmate. It sharpens motivations and actions but it never should mute aspects or wall them off.
Traynor really needed more character moments and interaction moments between her and Shepard not a shower scene which comes across as really . . . cynical. Traynor's romance isn't cynical but that particular scene always strikes me as really cynical and fake on BioWare's part, that getting the player "locked in" mattered more than the context or the design of the scenario or even the integrity of their own characters. The mechanical demands of the game too often being on show in ME3, much to the detriment of the writing and characters at times.
Changing gears much like Ele anytime I start the game over I have the urge to change my characters in some fashion or use something new. Thus the sixth iteration of Danielle Shepard now with moar freckles and better textures.

Oh, no. Nothing like that. I was thinking more like Armor/weapons dlcs; maybe a few side missions - that would answer a few plot holes and bring more closure. Those would pretty much benefit everyone really. And like i said i'm not opposed to romantic dlcs - specially for Sam and Diana. I would'nt mind more available NPC hooking up together for example.

Bolded: Exactly! It didn't bother me at first, but in hindsight it's weird, I think, that Traynor's first romance scene immediately leads to sex while all the other scenes only feature handholding or, at most, a big damn kiss. It almost makes the romance with Traynor seem like just a fling when it isn't intended to be one.

Thanks! That was exactly what I was going for with Ayla, outside of battle at least. In her story, doubting her combat skills would be suicide. But doubting her sanity? She actually takes it as a compliment whenever someone calls her an airhead or a ditz. Because hey, what's wrong with thinking outside the box?
Julia, on the other hand, is a very serious lady... and a total geek when it comes to electronics and romance. Perhaps that is why she and Garrus are so attracted to each other. But more about that tomorrow, when I (hopefully) finish the first part of her story.

I made substantial updates to make the story a little more organic and more complete. So i'm posting the complete version, this time, of Akuze part 1.
3 days. 3 days since Razor and her team had set up their observation post. It would eventually serve as an excellent primary firing position if need be. She shifted her weight in a more comfortable position - as much as her ghilly suit would allow in prone position. I need a shower. She chased that thought. Stay focus. It was a peaceful and beautiful night. The calm before the storm, she thought. How could so much contained violence be brewing in such a gorgeous night. From that small hill she had a perfect situational awareness of the area and could see the whole valley streching to the horizon. The vegetation was sparse, almost inexistant.
Hunter Lead had his OP set up accross the small valley from hers. Even through the optics, her trained eye couldn't spot Ramirez or any from his crew. She found solace in the fact that he couldn't spot her either. There's always been a bit of competition between her and 2nd Lt Ethan Ramirez aka Hunter lead since Sniper school, to say the least. He graduated from the N4 class preceding hers and always viewed her presence as undermining - almost to the point of feeling threaten. More so because Deirdre seemed imprevious to his natural charm and found that display of lack self confidence almost touching. That rivalry eventually grew into mutual respect and then later friendship over the weeks. Proving herself to be a better Sniper didn't hurt either. She knew he had her back no matter what.
She quickly glanced back. Warlock was asleep. She could see her chest rythmic up and down movement; SPC Caitlynn Konradd was her primary shooter and thought of her Mk 15 Drakkar as her most prized possession. Her delicate features made her seem almost out of place. She was as beautiful as she was deadly. Deirdre always felt close to her and kind of took her under her wings from day one. Seawolf was the veteran in her team; this wasn't Master Chief Chrijstian Vladmir first rodeo. He'd been deployed twice already in areas of operations without obtaining the necessary requirement to earn an N7 denomination. He was hoping this would be it. Deirdre knew she could count on him. The rest of the team always turned to him for advice on pretty much anything. PO 3rd class Robert Duchateau aka Rogue Boar was the 4th member of Razor team and always charged in like a bulldog. He had turned violence of action into an art form and mastered the ability to apply extreme aggression on very short notice. ****** favored finess over brute force; PO 1st class Kalani M'Toha did pride himself as the brain and tech specialist. And for good reason.
Deirdre thought now was a good time to fine tune/dope her optics - again. She was obssessed with it and constantly zeroed her weapons and gear. Some movement at the compound main entrance brought her attention back to the valley. Only through her MORCOM scope she could examine the installation in detail. A couple of thousands yrds separated her from the main gate. "They're bugging out." whispered Ramirez's voice through her comm. Everyone was now up and able.
Alliance had received various reports of Batarian activity on Akuze, specifically in that area. Nobody put much faith in those until an N6 Raider Team practically stumbled across the compound. The potential threat that pirates or slavers represented for colonies, specially young ones, was often downplayed. Scaring potential colonist away wasn't viewed kindly by Earth Corporations and potential political campaign contributors. Deirdre hated all that political b*** t. Colonist can die and nobody gives a damn. She had done her best to hide how personal this was for her. How could she ever forget Mindoir. Despite her best efforts, she could not prevent the flow of resurgent emotions. Only Ramirez had noticed the gradual change in her. He knew she would never back away from a fight. So it had to be something else. They all had their past demons, but as an unspoken rule, never talked about it. She thought she could store all that pain on a backburner and let it resurface when the heartache would become bearable. Mindoir past demons were tenacious; they wouldn't let go that easy. Snap out of it. Back to reality and the Brass insisting that the compound in question remain under constant surveillance - for now. Four OP were subsequently established in the surroundings. Any attempt to tap into their comm had proven unsuccessful until a few days earlier: an electronic missive refering to an impending transport of sensitive material(that the Brass wanted for some mysterious reason, destroyed not recorvered) prompted Razor Team into action. Lt Deirdre Shepard task was to deny any enemy movement of material or personal along that strech leading to the compound - enough to give the Alliance NSWC an opportunity to set up a raid. They had at last decided to make a move. F*** bureaucrats, she thought. NSWC would operate better without them breathing down their neck.
The small column of four vehicles could be seen leaving the area. Razor was now in constant radio contact with Alliance Intel. "I got eyes on a non tactical vehicle. That has to be it."she answered to the NSWC Intel request to identify a target of opportunity. "Can you paint it Razor?" Good to see that they weren't taking any chances and had opted for an airstrike. "You guys are starting the party without us?" That was Mako 1 - the breach Team - scheduled to launch the assault. They weren't gonna be able to make it before the convoy got out of operational range. Their shuttles had experienced various technical problems and their insertion had to be delayed several times. "What's your ETA Mako 1?" "We're 20 out." Without Mako 1 initiating the attack, NSW forces would loose the element of surprise and attacking the compound, even under cover of darkness, would proove perilous. "Razor will mark the target for an orbital strike. Hunter you will assist. Mako 1 proceed to the area of operation." "Roger that, HQ. Mako 1 out."
Deirdre immediately switched her MORCOM from Recon to Active. It took a few minutes for her to get a good lock on the target - uncharacteristic interferences. Time slowed down. She could hear her hearbeat as she instinctively regulated her breathing to improve her accuracy. Seconds became minutes. Minutes became hours. Then the area above the convoy lit up. The deflagration was deafening. A large ball of fire engulfed the convoy and sent the third truck into the air. The shock wave permanently disabled all three remaining tactical vehicles. Occasional screams from the point of impact could be heard, disrupting the otherwise calm night. "Razor, you're clear to secure the site while Hunter provides overwatch." "Thermal on" whispered Ramirez holding onto his MOS-A1 anti-material SR and scanning away from the wreckage for hostiles.
Deirdre reverted to her M-33 Spartan Assault Rifle. Her visor set to night vision, she turned to her squad. "We're up! Let's move. Tight formation, head on a swivel" she ordered only to the security element within her team. Rogue boar grabbed his Vulcan LMG, while ****** set up for his tricked out Phantom. Seawolf, her secondary shooter would stay on site as well as Warlock, who would act as a spotter; they would both provide overwatch of their own. Deirdre and her two teammates made their way to the mangled trucks location, periodically taking cover to address various threats. Team tactics felt fluid and seemless; like a clockwork, as months of training had built up teamwork making them able to anticipate each others action. There were some remnants of the small fighting force escorting the convoy closer to their destination - probably shielding themselves using biotic sphere or barrier. Razor spotted muzzle flashes from where Hunter was providing overwatch. His MOS was leaving an unusually large ballistic signature pretty much giving away his position. Small arms fire followed in his general direction. Razor could see tracers impact areas around the top of the hill. "They made you, Ramirez!' warned Deirdre over her comm. "Break contact.' EMP smoke filled the area where Hunter OP was, and concealed the whole Team's movement to Firing Position two. Despite the small remaining Op For, it was a fierce firefight. These weren't casual worn out Mercs. They knew what they were doing. After fifteen minutes of gunfire, Razor's squad gained tactical advantage over the opposing force and overwhelmed them with a barrage of AP/IC ammo. Warlock and Seawolf could then easily engage isolated targets, reducing them at their leisure. No life sign from the wreck. Deirdre finally secured the site under Ramirez watchful eye. Mako 1 was inbound. Razor heard the nightstalker shuttles before they appear in Akuze dark sky. "HQ, the site is secured; all targets are down." "Mako 1 touching down. Mako lead has boots on the ground" Deirdre welcomed Lt Hank McNight. What's up H". "S'up" he mumbled. "Looks like you owe me bro" Deirdre grinned. "In your dreams D. I'm still gonna hit that compound hard" "It's my op" she replied." Don't go act stupid in there. Watch your corner. These guys aren't slackers. We still trying to ID them". "We got a problem." That was Cpl Toombs from Hunter Team. Ramirez had stayed in overwatch while some of his guys equipped with biological scans had made it to the LZ for identification and possible extraction. "These guys aren't Batarians" he uttered pointing at the burnt corpses whose helmets he just took off. Some visibly were scientists while other had shadow ops gear on. Humans. Deirdre and Lt Hank McKnight were getting off their comm with HQ."The Brass will sort this mess out. We got a bigger fish to fry"said Razor pointing at the horizon."Assault of the compound is still a go and they know we're coming."
Great writing @SaturnRing - you can feel the tense
I'm really glad you enjoyed it. I tried to make some changes as the first version felt a little stiff. I'll start working on the second part soon, I hope.

Though I do wish Sam's romance was less "Straight male writer writing hot lesbians," and more "Writer writing two people in love." Because everyone knows all romances between two women starts with sex in the shower with your clothes on. <_<
