I tried that normal map switch on Anja awhile back, and I wound up only using the norm02 stack and the third scalp one because I really didn't like the way the main one looked on her.

But after seeing all these Shepards looking gorgeous with it, I decided to give it another go, but, unfortunately, it's still just... not right on her. It just changes the shape of her mouth too much, since it adds the slight wrinkles to the lips (which look great on pretty much every other Shepard, it seems, but for some reason look really off on Anja). Ah well.

I didn't like the wrinkles in the lips at first either, but it was a small price to pay to get UJ looking that much better. Hope you find something that works for Anja.

Hey now, ain’t nothing wrong with spacer/war hero! :) I know you didn’t mean it quite like that, but there’s an undercurrent especially in the fic world that you ‘must’ use the other backgrounds because of supposed additional drama/angst/whatever.

Well, I don't read or write fic so I just pick whatever is most interesting to me. My brother chose it because it seemed the most "heroic" to him, haha. My preference is Earthborn/Sole Survivor but only because of the headcanon I have for my own Shep. Honestly, I don't think Shepard's background has enough effect within the actual game (especially after ME1) for me to really have a strong opinion on any of it.

Though I do like the Colonist sidequest in ME1 the best, but that's about it when it comes to actual in-game content preferences in relation to Shep's history.

I also agree about the VS. much as I love all the other squaddies and their loyalty was touching, the VS's response was the only one that actually made much sense to me. *snip*

It made sense, but it bothered me how often they felt the need to voice it.  "I don't know who you're working for," "I don't know if I can trust you," "For all I knew Cerberus turned you into a husk," etc.  I can understand them feeling that way, but I wish they'd kept it to themself--I think Shepard had earned at least the illusion of trust by that point (especially if she/he is in a relationship with the VS).  Watch Shepard closely, sure, and be ready to act if she/he does something seriously questionable/OOC, but until then just lay off a bit, wouldya?  Like Shepard doesn't already have enough things to be worrying about.  (But obviously, while that would work in a novel where you could get into their head and know what they were thinking, I guess that silent wariness is a lot harder to get across in a VG.  Too bad--speaking their mind really doesn't do anything to make me like them better.)
*snip*

This

...is why fanfiction was invented.

Seriously, the VS stuff is good, but the timing is pretty absimal. I guess the writing is coming at it from 'we have to establish TENSION!' but it does come off as way more combative than is reasonable given that you're, oh, i dunno, in the middle of a freaking mission in the mars archives.

so yeah. i agree. but as you say, harder to get into the heads of the characters in the game.

which mouth are you using? i thought kyrie was mouth A, and the new normal map looks pretty bad with A. but then i found an old piece of paper where i'd written down her code as i built her and it's actually mouth 8, which looks very similar. 8 works just fine with the normal mapping. so it might be another mouth that looks nearly idential (and several of them are near identical) might work better?

i actually liked the wrinkles. in most light they look more realistic texturing to me. the smoother looked too plasticy. but that's me. i think they're pretty! :wizard:

Image IPB

also ^ i realized that i tweaked the lips a hair, which might have smoothed out the wrinkles ever so slightly.

Yeah they look really great on Kyrie, which is why I decided to give it a second go with Anja.

But yeah, I dunno, it made her upper lip look weirdly pursed instead of full, and it added a weird cleft in her lower lip that just seemed to change the whole shape of her mouth. And it's possible that it would look better on a different base shape, but I've already tried multiple shapes and endless tweaks to try to get her mouth to look like its ME1/2 version and the current shape is the best I could get, so I don't know if I want to mess with that more.

I guess I'll take some comparison screenshots and post them here, and maybe try it out in different lighting/cutscenes to see if that helps.

edit: But you are right about those two mouths being virtually identical, and I'm honestly not sure which one I originally used on Anja. I wish I'd written it down somewhere!

On TIM - One might see indoctrination as the easy way out and that's a valid point, but looking back, it was inevitable. On Thessia, TIM tells Shepard that, "I've been fighting the Reapers longer than you can imagine." This is probably a good indication that TIM's been fighting indoctrination for years. In ME1, the Reapers forced Saren to do their bidding, making promises if he would work w/ them. In ME: Retribution, thanks to TIM hooking up Paul Grayson to Reaper tech, the Reapers learn from their mistakes w/ Saren. They trick Grayson into accepting their thoughts as his own and thus he isn't even aware that he is working for them. I think the same thing happens to TIM in ME3. The Reapers use TIM's ego and arrogance against him, making him think he can control them. Again, this is pointed out before on Thessia.  A splinter group of Protheans wanted to dominate the Reapers, yet it was later found out they were indoctrinated.  So, yeah, I can understand the disappointment of TIM's character (and they could have handled it better even so) but he was doomed to be indoctrinated the moment he got blasted w/ Reaper tech so long ago.

I guess what i find difficult to accept is the fact that he had Shepard at his mercy and did not attempt anything - though there isn't a profile for someone indoctrinated, i have trouble associating how he handled Lazarus with someone under reaper control(knowingly or not) and avid of power. I feel as if there is a clean break between how he was presented in ME2 and then how he appeared in ME3 - where all his actions are thrown over the count of indoctrination - like it got hyper accelerated. I wish they dove a little more into his motivations and expose how they got twisted by the reapers, i guess. There gotta be moments when he expressed real doubts a little like Saren(though the process for TIM is more refined, more subtle)

@sagequeen: i agree; super sized Shepard is how you fight the reapers.

@lillitheris: nothing's wrong with being a spacer; i guess poeple tend to have more trouble identitying with one. I always thought there was a clear potential for dramatization with that background - from the writers. I just think i (the player) consistently fail to grasp it.

@ W E C: i see what you mean about the VS. Though they are expressing legitimate concerns, too many times the game make them appear more like "annoying" persons - from my point of view it is much more pronounced with Ashley. Maybe like you suggested it is due to the fact that we observe everything from Shepard perspective and don't have any insight into their mind. I think what kind of corrupt that process is that the writing takes into account the fact that they are potential LI(way too much for my taste) - like a prelude to making up/out.

Deirdre Shepard is a hard ass.

I have to say that you seem to have something for death glares... Gianna, Selena... All shooting Reaper-killing projectiles out of their eyes.:o

LOL...thanks! The Reapers did ****** Gianna off. In Selena's case, well actually all of my sheps HATE TIF with a fiery HOT passion...so that expression is rather....'normal' when it comes to him.

Also : Lovely shots of Rachel...she looks quite cute and pulls off the new default hairstyle quite well!

@LadyAly : You will...once Leviathan releases...;). The same applies to Allison n Selena as well. :P

@WEC : Kayleigh is SUPER cute....enjoy modding her and keep posting moar pics!  Thanks on both accounts....well, it was easier for Selena since she is a Vanguard....her being devastingly sexy and a renegade didn't hurt matters. ;)

In Gianna's case.... ELE08 coined the phrase for her ' she's as beautiful as she is deadly and she will kick your ass and you will like it as much if not more than she does!' :P

@Sina...LOL...all of you crack me up being scared of her look there.  Btw...Edward is quite cute and thanks for the follow on photobucket, I hope you have enjoyed all of my screenshots in my various albums there. :)

@Unata " Welcome to the thread...Very cute and attractive shep there...please tell us more about her!

@yuki: that is a very beautiful femshep...facial structure one seems to make some of the better ones out there( Stacia uses that structure for example).

@Ashoken: LOVE Jenny....she is SUPER cute as well... I hope your enjoying the new dlc weapons!  Also nice blog about 'the grab' ability....it does seem to get some of the more impressive screenshots.

@sage : great to see that with all of your hardwork n modding....Kyrie is Kyrie again!  Because, you been posting her I decided to make a new blonde femshep myself...scroll down. ;)

@meryl : Lovely shots of Naomi's run through Feros...how much more you got left to do before she makes into ME 2?

@Jamie : as I have told you before...I will say it again. UJ has never looked better IMO!

@AD: nice...will try and check that out over the weekend.

Ok...so, because of the stupid origin update. I was forced to uninstall n reinstall ME 3....as well as redownload all of my dlcs...EXACTLY, whyw as this good idea again Bioware/EA?????  So, I don't have the ending of Selena's ME 3 story yet. But I do have a brand new femshep to share with you all.

Femshep #10 reveil : Meet my earthborn, ruthless, Vanguard, Renegon( HEAVY Renegade) Natalia Shepard....she is based off of the facecodes of one of ELE08's Shepards. I loved her so much I just had to have her and alter her a little to make her into my own character. :D

Yes…there’s a somewhat ingrained culture of expecting this extra dramatization. It seems kind of equally cliché, sometimes, to have had your parents killed by orcs^Wbatarians etc. But, then, I’m the kind of writer who likes to defuse tension prematurely etc. I like realistic tension, I suppose, not dramatic tension.

@raziel1980: Somehow I can just never get anyone to look that good with lipstick :crying:^_^…all my girls tend to have very light lips, and heavy eyes. Which obviously works terribly in ME3.

@merylisk Naomi looks pretty cool on Feros

@SebAusFR OH - a very natural Beauty is Rachel - lovely

@sagequeen interesting  comparison of hairstyles.

@SaturnRing Yeah - Jack and Chiara felt like soul sisters. Both hated Cerberus with passion - as she died on the Normandy by entering the Relay to the Collector Base she was furios as hell - tried toget there. Only Miranda made the attempt to hold her back, talking some sense into her.

@Tup3xi LOL - Tiia throws peeping people mercyless out

@Ashoken  - WOWIE !!! Jenny is amazing - stunning

@JamieCOTC UJ is one of the unique looking Shepards I love to pieces. The changes fit her well

@ADLegend21 Enjoyed to reading the 2 chapters  - keep us informed for new ones. I like how you describe the Genophage conflict  very much - and for sure the rivalry between Ash and Garrus

@raziel1980 and yet another Beauty appears out of nowwhere - Natalia is pretty as all your Sheps are.

I wish I would be more into modding ME - but I do not have the time. I loved it on DA with the Toolset - but we do not have anything for ME. So I envy you all and praise the wonderful results you all share.

FemShep question:  Did you lose in a playthrough someone at the Suicide Mission ? Could you wrap it up with your hedcannon story or did you replay ?

The very first time I played Suicide Mission  I lost Mordin - and yes I replayed until I had all safe with Reyna.  I need her to be fully victory for myself.
Chiara lost Jack on the way to the Collector Base - missed unfortunate the heavy Ship Armor. This I could wrap up with Chiara's hedcannon story  and her change to the other hairstyle in ME3.

Great shots.

I just tested higher intensity for eye liner and shadow. I didn't realize it can go above 1. These are over the top but I keep wondering whether or not I should actually tweak it. She did have little bit bluish eye shadow in ME2 & 1 and stronger eye liner. It does add depth... whattodo whattodo.

MEH - Aly has to write a ranting post ....
I'm disappointed. I played Chiara as a very different complicated Character with a passionate hate for Cerberus. She didn't nearly bother for Jacob/Miranda, did never help , did no missions for them and barely spoke to both. Still the Suicide Mission was success.
I was assuming/hoping it should have some impact in ME 3 - but oh well
I guess the Game designers not even considered you could play the game this way...

So- Chiara never met, heard or talked to Orianna. Not even knew her name ... and guess what happened on Horizon/Sanctuary ???
Right - she is talking *this is Orianna's voice Miranda's sister ....*

I think they  had should give the possibility you haven't done the loyality mission for Miranda. and a statement that you do not know the voice/person.

Sorry for ranting - maybe I was expecting to much since the designers not could think about all, but for me its  just right now nothing then a huge disappointement.

I got a question for everyone (myself included): why would our femsheps be wearing makeup?

I suppose a really renegade "its all about me" Shepard might put on makeup going into battle, but I've recently realized its a little out of character for any of my shepards so I've decided to edit away their makeup.

Well, since ME3 is no where near the most graphically advanced game and human faces do not look that realistic, I think that makeup tends to hide its short comings a bit. In ME1 and 2 eyes looks somehow creepy without eye liner and in ME3 there's something off about the eyes without any make up. At least in my Shepard's case.

I can understand your frustration.  There's quite a few irritating details in ME3 that bug me.

There's what? Already 1000+ story variables they took into account (according to CHud at least.)  I think they kind of painted themselves into a corner with how many ways things can be achieved in the previous games.  Miranda's alive? Well you must have done her loyalty mission!

=]

I'm not a fan of how there are stock dialogues for every Shepard.  Example - Joker's comment about calling up the council and hanging up on them for old time's sake.  It's nice they did a callback to ME1...but none of my Sheps ever did that.

Oh well.

I'd like to play the SP again but there's no reason to at the moment.

Things I would like, from the possible to the unreasonable

- the N7 Demolisher armor for femshep
- smash as a bonus power (biotic whips, yo!)
- Vegamance
- a vehicle (Mako 2.0!)

Anyone else have a list of things they'd like for the campaign?

Joanie's hanging out on Mars indefinltely unless they release something worthwhile for SP :(

Why would anyone wear heels into battle? Or something that shows off their cleavage?  Or not wear a full helmet into a toxic environment?  A lot of the stylistic choices in Mass Effect can be rationalized, but they're still not the most practical option.

Bioware has not bothered to put substance before style for any of their characters, so personally, I don't see a disconnect with holding Shepard to the same standards (or lack of standards I guess.)  I think makeup can make Shep look better.  Don't care if it makes sense.  And I agree with Tup, the graphics in ME aren't all that great so it really covers up a lot (one example, eye clipping.)

I don't have an in-game reason why femshep would be wearing makeup all the time.  Limitations of the medium and all that.  NPCs also never change their clothes.  Do they just have closets full of the same outfit? Questions, questions.

Just my opinion.  No need to spread it around :P

Additional thoughts...I have modded Teagan with no makeup and I quite liked it.  It would make the most sense if she wore some during downtime, like on the citadel, and then not during combat.  Putting on a bit of eyeliner, not that much work, trust me fellas.  I can see femshep doing it to go see the council or go on a date with her LI.  But that's way too much work for me to mod.  Meheh.

I refer back to my initial sentiment - current limitations of the medium.

Regarding TIM, the change is not necessarily an issue for me, since it's true that you can pretty much expect him to fail at some point. His decay could have been more detailled, but since you are not working with him anymore, you do not have as much conversations with him as you have in ME2. In the previous game, it was actually possible to be convinced by him!

The spacer background is the only one that has no *official* drama in Shep's childhood, and where she's not an orphan. I guess it's a classic writting trick to have the hero undergo some trauma to make it easier to root for them. :)

I tried Sagequeen complexion modding, and here is the result:
Image IPB

I do not see that much difference, but overall the skin looks slightly less smooth. It could also be that the lightning on the citadel is too "strong". The eyes appears slighty deeper, and there's something going on around the nostrils...
@yukidama: Thanks! ^_^ I would have liked to have the cheekbones slighty larger, but then the side of her face looked bizarre under some angles.

@LadyAly: Thanks! Poor Chiara is going to be in a bad mental shape pretty soon. Damn KL.

@ELE: Both very beautiful ^_^ You are right, limitations of the medium are something we have to account. And also some things have to simplified or presented with limited options because of time. It's like when you do your PhD, there is always more to do, more to research, oh and what about that? But at some point, you need to stop to put your manuscript together because you have that 3 years deadline. Same for Bioware, I guess.

Good to hear from u.

@raziel: Natalia hit the ground running: bad guys beware. Poor Jenkins had a defective shield.  I'm still hoping everytime i go through that part, that something can be done to save him.

@LadyAly: i try to tell myself to just go along with it. But sometimes it is not enough. Sometimes things abruptly brake immersion. It affects me often because i tend to wanna follow a renegade path. Sadly the game facilitates a paragon profile(in my opinion). That's why i play a certain way(somewhere in the middle) and stick to it. As long as it makes sense to me. Too many times renegade choices feel like a caricature - down to animations. Neutral choices are most of the time the right way to go. But they don't allow much character growth.

I hate all confrontations involving Kai Leng because they feel like cheap shots. Everytime you're about to get the upper hand, he just vanishes.  Chiara got the job done - it's just that she facing a coward.

I actually take time to make sure that he is ready and able. Everytime.

@Tup: i wish i could help you with that - when it comes to make up i tend to agree more or less with ELE: very light or not at all most of the time, with the possibility to go heavier on certain occasions(dates; formal/informal meetings). I think we should be able to change hair or make up at any point in the game. To fit any context. Though in your case it's more a question of correcting shortcomings. If you think Vega can handle it...great shots of Tiia.
