...but I do think they probably got a little too deep and artistic for their own good with certain aspects of the ending.  Guys, you're making "Star Wars", not "2001"...

QFT

And maybe this is just me, but I find Star Wars far more deep, philosophical, and FAR more interesting than 2001.

No, it's not just you.  But SW also has an ending that's much easier to understand: the Emperor dies, the Death Star gets blown up, and the good guys win.  "2001", tho...  the first time I saw it I was probably 14, and I just sat there during the last half-hour wondering, "Uh... what's happening?  And what's the deal with the monkeys?"

I hate to seem uncultured, but a lot of my experience with 2001 was 'What the f*ck?' as well.
Kubrick seemed to be a fan of 10-minute long scenes where nothing happens.

There's a BSN/artisitic integrity joke in here somewhere.

Really, the best part of "2001" is realizing that it was filmed back in that innocent time before William Sylvester had begun harrassing Robert Denby so relentlessly...

(a cookie for anyone who actually gets that reference ;) )

Sorry, I wish I did.
I think I need to drink some 20 year old wine and go look at some post-modern art to stop feeling like such a peasant.

Anyway, sorry for offtopic, Femsheps.

Okay, so I found Ashley's HED_norm for ME2 and it has the effect I wanted.

Anyway!!!!!!!! I still have all Naomi's ME1 endgame screenshots to go through, but in the meantime, which hairstyle should she rock in ME2????

Her trusty old "sexy" cut?

Or (drumroll).... cyberbabe?

In other news more screen shots of Faye. Going to take a break for a while from ME3 and play some SWTOR or DA:O, maybe some GW2.

Well, you maybe right...but I take brunette to mean dark hair color... :P
@saturn : thanks... Allison will eventually due Leviathan once the enxt SP DLC is released...
@meryl: I also like the cyberbabe style better on Naomi..btw she looks GREAT in ME 2!

@red: You already know how much I love all fo your sheps( with Zody being my fav of all) and Penelope and Faye look sooo good and cute in ME 3!

Anyways...I guess I will show the rest of my femsheps....

Amelia - my sentinel, liara-trilogy mance shep, thanks to red for her facecode. She will be my next ME 3 playthrough.
Image IPB

Claire - my one and only soldier/kaidan- trilogymancing femshep. She is still in ME 2. i will finish her game there soon enough...
Image IPB

Selena - the only Rene-gon Femshep of mine to complete the game so far. I won't be playing her in any further dlcs as I am happy with control ending and becoming the 'Reaper Queen'.
Image IPB

Alicia - my very first femshep ever created. She was my Liara in ME 1, Thane in ME 2 mance femshep infiltrator. Her game ended after cronos base when she killed Kai Leng as I don't feel like nor have the will to continue play her any further than that...
Image IPB

Here is another of Gabby - my current femshep infiltrator...showing a pic I took and posted for friend over on mumble...
thanks kraysi for the texmod.;)

Edit: I think also once I lock in the garrus-mance for Gabby, I'm going to take a break from ME 3...probadly til the next single player mission based dlc is released. As it currently stands I still have to cure the genophage and the citadel coup then either samara's quest or the cerberus scientist quest to complete with her before that...

Brun ~ brown   …but yay for infiltrators!

@merylisk: sexy (although I’m not sure if it is any more than the others, they’re all good). The ME2 cyberbabe is better than  3’s, but still.

In the original ending, from the time Shepard goes up the light from London until the crew exists the Normandy we are dealing w/ pure symbolism. I like that they tried that, but symbolism taking front and center just doesn't work in this game. One of the major problems is the kid. He is supposed to represent all the people Shepard couldn't save. He represents Shepard's failure. Is he real? That's up to us. Okay, fine, but I don't know him therefore I have zero attachment to him. So when he shows up as the Catalyst, I know what they were trying to do, but it doesn't work. Wouldn't it had been better to have the Catalyst as Ashley or Kaidan or Legion or any other of Shepard's many friends that could die. But no, they went w/ symbolism instead. Then the EC comes and adds concrete answers to what was supposed to be symbolic and, while I liked the final goodbye, it just digs the grave deeper. Leviathan does pretty much the same.

So for that, I go w/ what the ending represents rather than what actually happened. I chose synthesis for because it's UJ sacrificing herself for the galaxy and forgiving the Reapers for what they did and allowing them a new lease on life. Also, I like the challenge of trying out how to bring her back. ;)

My 2 cents.

@Eyil - Thanks!  I love UJ's nose too. I love everything about Cathy's face.  They should both get together for beers. ;)

Exactely. I picked up on ME in general because of its original intent to steer away from it. A plot involving  reapers isn't anything new in itself. The appeal to me was a clear desire (it did seem as such) not to dwell into symbolism. I feel as a kid who's looking for answers to what causes the reapers menace, and is instead given a lecture on the virtues of altruism - or the hidden power behind a symbolic gesture. It isn't a bad thing...it is just introduced so abruptly.

I rather like that painting, it's a good spin of Michelangelo's David. Tineye doesn't turn up any results; is there a higher resolution version of it? (Or alternations?)

True... though maybe this is just me, and I'm a total philistine for saying so, but I don't think symbolism taking front and center works in anything. You have to let the world be it's own world, the story be a story unto itself. If symbolism comes out of that, well and good, but you can't really force it.

Eh, enough thinking about the ending for me. it's making me depressed (again).

I have a little theory about that. It's my impression that a lot of male players like using the default Shepard and as we all know, the default Shepard is often--and mistakenly--seen as canon. This type of status might actually hinder any need to develop a more detailed back story. You figure: Hey, this is the way he is "supposed" to look and in turn that influences how much customization you put towards him. It's harder (for me anyway) to become attached to a character that is not a personal design and the fact that FemShep has been marginalized in marketing and in certain in-game features might actually have encouraged her fanbase to put more effort into capturing her image, developing her story, and telling others about it. Of course, this is just my silly opinion and I know that this does not explain everything and it could be completely off base, but one has to wonder why there are less outspoken fans of maleShep. Especially since he has the largest playerbase.

Anyhow, have a Nemain:

I think you are pretty close. The way I see this, as a male, I did start the game originally with the default Sheploo since to me male CC options were like "dafuq are you even trying, use our default model". So I stopped even trying and picked default. Aaaand there's the problem. After that point I wasn't attached to him at all. He was the typical male grunt and I didn't really cared about him. I can't really remember thinking anything about his background or things like that.

However, I once somehow ended up in femShep thread and decided to try it. Since the default Jane wasn't that much different that what you could accomplish with the CC, I made first variant of Tiia and then I somehow got attached to her. My very first true Shep, by me and and not a preset. I also was gladly surprised that her voice actor was Hale since she did a stellar job in Freelancer which is one of my favourite games. I do not have anything against Mark and I think he does just as good job, though.

Then the things started rolling and I haven't managed to make any progress at all on Sheploo. He just doesn't feel like my Shep. It also feels like there isn't much point in sharing "your Shep" when he's the default option and everyone is using him. Majority of male Sheps are Sheploos for sure. With Sheploo, you can't really be proud of your Shepard and it seems absurd to see the exactly the same face but with different background etc. That's probably one reason people seem to avoid Sheploo in male Shep thread too (or at least I have that kind of feeling).

The bond between your character and you is extremely important and I don't think that many Sheploo players have that. They might end up being those that do not really care that much about Shepard (bad wording perhaps but anyway...) but then end up being active Tali [insert-other-character-here] fanboys/girls.

That's my 0,02 €.

Whew. I was worried that I would offend someone because I would never want to insinuate that players who use maleShep are less dedicated. I think it is safe to say, however, that a majority of casual players will pick him since he is predesigned and has the most detailed skin texture, facial features, etc. Someone who takes the time to design a character is also more likely to come up with a story, however detailed, about their character. Not sure if it absurd for me to assume that FemShep players have a greater percentage of customized characters (wish Bioware put up more detailed stats on this).

I've also noticed, at least in this thread and a few other spots, that there is a greater focus on the customized Shepard, sometimes even greater than the characters around her. She's not as likely to be seen as a placeholder for the player, where the bulk of said player's interest lays in the world around the character Shepard and not so much Shepard her/himself.

You're both making good points though i don't agree: i use default Jane and been a femshep hardcore fan since ME was released and going strong. In my case the problem isn't related to the use of default or customised characters - as i continue to get invested in her story.

Was randomly lurking but had to comment on the current topic heh. I was actually exclusively a maleshep player until I finally caved and made my femshep Allison And tbh I agree with both Tup3xi and F_B_H posts. I mean i'm very attached to my custom maleshep but I don't ever use Sheploo for reasons that I don't have a connection to him whatsoever. I feel like he has to be played a certain way, have this specific name, be a soldier, do this do that etc, it's silly I know. Plus he is way too much of a pretty boy for my tastes. Oh and the fact that he is freaking EVERYWHERE! XP

When there is a void fans will fill in the blanks if they deem it worthwhile. And thus fans become more attached to a thing they claim “ownership” over. That’s just the way fandom works.

But again, the ending it feels like the devs/writers are going out of their way to close off certain options and pass judgement on which is best - especially in retrospect, deliberately closing off IT and making Destroy seem worse/ Synthesize seem better.

I didn't see Leviathan as promoting Synthesis as much as Control - the Leviathans will need to be dealt with after the war with the Reapers ends, and using the Reapers to do this seems like the best way to deal with two threats.

I was quite worried playing Marie now that she might not come out the ME3 import unscathed.
She has a custom texture that needed to be converted, which on it's own could be done, but no saying if any changes would have had to be made to the texture to account for ME3's updated lighting-engine.

Then there's the fact she uses the sexy haircut, and the ME3 version just does not look enough alike. It upsets balance in faces in some cases. So I was conflicted which hairstyle to go with for her.

Then there were the facial features and overall face-shape, some of my Sheps (Raine, Jane) HAD to be Lazarussed because not only did their features change, their facial shape was nothing like it was before either.

Long story short, I was worried, and I anticipated ALOT of tweaking would need to be done.
Now ELE, who picked up on this, did it all for me for my birthday and I both wanted to share it with you guys, plus tell her again how much I appreciate she gave me my baby 'back' <3

So, Marie in ME3:
