Back again after posting my Jill Shepard back on ppg 775-6 on this thread. I started up a new Shepard from the beginning, and another, and another, but haven't been able to decide who to focus on. Perhaps I'll figure it out, or maybe I'll just be playing all three for the next however long.

Here's Cooper Shepard:

She's a ruthless engineer (tired of missing all those encrypted objects!), and I was planning on having her be brutal to everyone but her crew.

Here's Billy Shepard talking to Anderson:

She's going to be straight paragon, and she's a spacer sentinel.

Finally there's Heli Shepard, a soldier:

I was going to have her be full renegade, but then I see those big lips and those soulful, gentle eyes and I just can't imagine such a face belonging to a brutal woman.

Which brings me to my regular problem. To make these Shepards distinctive, I don't always go with what I'd consider the most attractive facial choices, lest all three of them look pretty much exactly alike. Billy is pretty much my default choice. The problem is, when I veer away from said default, I can't help but really notice the alterations. I can't help but notice Cooper's broad, flat nose, or Heli's big lips and big, slightly down-turned eyes. So much for variety.

I also have a problem trying to map out a personality, instead going with what feels right when the moment strikes, based on more variables than I'm even conscious of. After all, sometimes you just have to punch the hell out of Admiral Han'Gerrel vas Neema when he opens fire on the Dreadnought you're on, and sometimes you don't.

About making characters distinct, I really do wish there were a few cutscenes thrown in showing Shepard using biotic powers or maybe even a tech power such as overload. The gun toting scenes work well if you play as a soldier or infiltrator but sometimes you want cutscene acknowledgment of what your character does in gameplay.

Ah, she always has the high bun in ME1 because it fits the military protocol better imo, as well as the personality of hers. And yay for lip scar, you can never go wrong with it!  She is my only femshep that gets to keep that lip scar all the way 'til ME3 ( texmod is god).

Thanks! :wizard: Agreed on that one, Electra was actually the first Vanguard I made and she just had to go renegade. I believe it's the nature of this particular class. Vanguards are edgy, confident, powerful in close combat, risky, danger thirsty but sometimes reckless when ingaging the rage mode :P. You just don't want to be around when that goes down. They're like krogans..only squishy. I love them.  

I loved how you started building the tension in Akuze prt2, it was a great read; I wish it was bigger. I'm curious & eager to see how you're going to approach the final moments. Very creative and definately inspiring so far, I hope you keep updating it!

@JamieCOTC: Thank you!:) Great other Sheps as well , though UJ is still the goddess of them all, if I may say. Too bad for Susan, I've never romanced Thane but I imagine that would be a slap in the face. I knew the chances of him dying would be big enough, but still.
@Flies_by_Handles: I really liked how you potrayed Indra ,love her name as well. Oh my, she's renegade to the bone! What I loved the most, except of the artwork which was fitting and awesome btw, was the witness of that one Batarian that survived Torfan.
And agreed on the cutscene thing. I was dissapointed by that actually, especially in the last game (e.g Citadel coup and Cerb.Headquarters with Kai Leng). Same goes for the guns, I love Avenger , don't get me wrong but when I equip that Revenant I reaaally do wanna see the Revenant.
@Eyil : That last pic of Catherine is amazing. Love every pixel of it.

If it's a serious question, it depends if you count the texmods or the individual items. I've done somewhere between 20-30? facial textures over all three games, but effectively you could say that's all variations for the same 'item'.
All small variations of eachother, most done on request, most are obsolete now seeing they only added make-up before gibbed brought his editor out. Some still viable because they take elements from ingame facial textures and combine them into a new one. Those weren't much effort to do.

The N7 armor was brought on by pure annoyance on my part, everytime I'd see the low res N7 armor and the blocking in the chest piece I'd cringe up to the point where I (without prior experience) spent weeks retexturing it,
A full armor set is a bunch of effort because aside from having a basefile for each part of the armor, you also have the spec (three layers) and the tintmaps to redo and realign to your new basetexture. While the specmap is just one flat image it's built up out of it's red green and blue channel that all carry different data, and the alpha channel that often carries the glow information of lights (but not always). So that's basically 1 made up out of 3/4 customised layers for each part. The number of textures ramps up incredibly fast.

At the time I did the N7 armor, there already was a HR retexture for it out but I just plain didn't like it, because it was both inconsistent with the original and with other pieces, plus it missed the recolour on the N7 triangle.

The fourth casual outfit was another of my pet peeves, seeing you're forced into it as well for part of the game and it looked so astoundingly worse then the first casual outfit you're forced into during the citadel sequence after mars.
Doing the first casual now was basically merely because I like the colours of the Cerberus outfit on Gellix and wanted to make it available for Femshep.
I've done a couple of the ME2 ini modded outfits, I've done some project retextures for one of the Thane initiatives etc. I've done the avenger and the predator for mandatory cutscene duty too, and I've done the Valiant because that gun is plain sexy.

At any rate, when I get annoyed, or want to use something enough but the texture-resolution is horrendous, I'll be moved to retexture out of pure frustration. It's become a bit of a drug and addiction now where I can't play for long if I'm wearing something that's too low res. I'm not too sad about it, even though it seriously gimps my playtime, in the end everything I manage to churn out is bound to make someone else happy too.
For that reason |I take requests, but as it stands, I have some outstanding cries for help from among others, Red, that concearn actual armor retextures. I'll have to sit my ass down and get to them sometime soon.
My biggest problem with doing these is that my efficiency is not what it could be, I'm very easily tempted to take an unfinished texmod ingame to see the result, which costs me a bucket of time in the long run. I shoudl actively stop myself from frantically checking every 30mins and just finish a retexture before looking heh, but perfectionism.

I 'pride' myself keeping armor retextures as close to the original as I can. It's unlikely I'd ever find the time to redo all of them, and seeing there's carbon on most armor sets, I didn't want to sway from Bioware's choice of texture for them too much and have an issue with carbon consistency over differing set-pieces.
That's what I find most important, make things look better, but keep the retextures a doable size so even people with less heavy machines don't take insane amounts of time loading the game, and things not retextured don't set off against the retextured bits insanely.

Heh, I love keeping the scar consistently through all three games too. And I have to agree, texmod is God in that sense =) I'm sporting one on Marie too, most proud of her custom texture personally.

I agree. Though i like the Avenger, nothing brakes immersion more than seeing it appear out of thin air and find itself in cutscenes. It feels like brainwash. There is an overall lack acknowlegdment of biotics - I mentioned it before.  That's why i have a hard time playing one. I had a Deirdre Sentinel that i dropped because of that.

I agree about Vanguards. I think they often predisposed to very strong personalities. I will actually hint on that a little in my next Akuze update - and on how difficult it is for some of them(biotics in general) to climb up Alliance ranks.

 Thanks Calibrator. =] I have an idea of how her mission on Torfan went (and from what I read on the wiki and in game, it really does sound like brutal warfare) but I'm not a writer so I hoped just typing up a quick impression would give an idea of how Indra's experience differed from Nemain's with the Ruthless background. Anything more and then I'd be treading on fanfiction territory and unfortunately that's not my forte. :?

  The game has an odd way of deciding when your character and her squad mates use the appropriate weapons in cut screens and when they switch back  to those silly defaults. I have a mini celebration when I see the guns shown correctly, otherwise the game just likes to laugh in my face. Lazy programming.....

 Flycam sure does help make up for the lack of biotic powers in cinematics. There are several powers I would like to see my characters do from a frontal or side view. I like the pictures you posted.

 Ah, I see we have a texture snob over here....:whistle: I can imagine saying Shepard saying: "Uggh....this armor just won't do. It's so last season and low-res!" Seriouosly though, that takes some dedication. Shame I can't take advantage of it.

When I started my second playthrough of ME3 on Jane, I went through 5 minutes of intro with her before she just seemed to start staring at me disapprovingly and I HAD to grab the fourth casual to redo it, just could - not - continue.
So yeah, texture snob is right, I blame Jane though, a bit =o

The first outfit (and the alliance outfit Shepard wear on citadel first time) bot look a bit weird because if you compare them to, say, hoody, bewbs and booty most definitely look a lot bigger. And the booty part is definitely just not an optical illusion. So it's not that weird at all if they something seems to suit Shepard better.

Oh dear.....I really do not like the way the default looks in that wallpaper. Her makeup is distracting-even border on Ronald McDonald-- and clashes with what's going on in the background.

Honestly, I've always thought that it was on the heavy side - and not just in that wallpaper.

They did after all say don't expect anything groundbreaking so expecting anything above this is bound to make a person disappointed. I'm pleasantly suprised, i think it look pretty cool and it's probably my wallpaper for this week at least

 Ah, then that makes two of us. I know some prefer the heavier made-up look but I always steer towards something more natural. Looking back at ME2, I think even Devi had more pronounced makeup than I intended....  I didn't see this wallpaper in any of the other boards. Where was it pulled from?

This picture amuses me. If I didn't know any better I'd assume Indra was checking out Liara's....enchancements since their time in ME1. Indra used to have hazel eyes but I decided to change them to black for ME3. They suit her better and I don't seem to come across black-eyed Shepards very often. I like that Indra has such a masculine presence. It matches up well with Liara's more delicate mannerisms. For any old school Sailormoon fans, Indra and Liara remind me of the pairing of Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune. Neptune is even associated with the color blue/turquoise.

There was never any flirtation betweem Vega and Indra in her play through. At best, their relationship was one of professional respect, and at worst, of physical competition. Vega has some similarities with the boys Indra horsed around with during her childhood on Mindoir and like those boys, she feels a need to compete and assert herself.

In that context the wallpaper is w/in reason.  Her mouth is a little wonky, but other than that, it looks good.  :)
