I like Kaidan. But if it is acceptable to love certain characters, bashing them is also fair. All characters impact us in different ways. We should all feel free to express how we feel about them -  as long as we respect each others point of view.

It's called a positive environment.  Which we tried to keep going in the old thread.  Some people are very defensive about the things they love.  I don't see how doing such a thing is productive nor healthy for the thread.  Just my opinion, that other people seem to share.

Ok. So you telling me that we should avoid talking about stuff we disagree. Ok, that's fine with me.

Incorrect. This thread (and the previous) was an area of lively discussion about things that people disagreed over.  What we didn't do was, for example: "You romanced Kaidan?  How could anybody be dumb enough to romance Kaidan?  He's boring and stupid and they shouldn't even have him in the game.  What a waste of time."

This kind of thing demeans and belittles the opinions and preferences of the other party.  If you don't like Kaidan, that's fine, but be respectful about it.  You can say you don't like him, you can even say why, but make sure, first, that it's in a larger context about discussion of femShep, and even more importantly, don't make other people feel bad for disagreeing with you.

That's all Aislinn meant.

Jessica Shepard fell for Liara, for a lot of different reasons.  I think her romance is the best in the game (speaking of 1 and 2 as a single story), especially after Lair of the Shadow Broker.  I have no problem with anyone preferring Thane, or Kaidan, or Garrus (who I also find emminently sexy and who would probably have been my choice of romance if Liara didn't exist).

@Jane Shepard,
Rumor mill said something about that ME1 LIs will be 'new' romances again. But ME2 romances will only be import romances for ME3. In other words, Kaidan, Liara, and new LIs (maybe Vega and Diana) will be romances for new Shepards. But Thane, Garrus, and Jacob will still be your romance if you import from ME2. But like I said this is a rumor.

What Sable said, Aislinn wasn't saying you can't talk about characters you don't like. Just don't attack them. There are a couple character I don't care for, but you will never hear me say that I hate them or talk against them.

We're not avoiding things we disagree on; what we're doing is avoiding needless hatred.  If you don't like a character, that's fine, but if you have to present it in a reasonable way.

EDIT:  So, you know, basically what Sable said.

I find this very weird. The closest thing I have to a canon-Shep personally is a MShep who was faithful to Liara. But nothing about the makeout scene in ME2 trailer made the trailer bad. In fact it made it good. Every epic story needs an epic romance imo. Good on BW to put that in the trailer. The trailer is simply telling one version of the ME story. What you choose in your game is up to you obviously.

Without going into a big discussion over it (since this is not the thread for such a thing), there was nothing about the Shepard/Miranda make-out scenes in the ME2 launch trailer that made those short scenes "epic romance" (for me):

There were no buildup scenes before it, there was nothing in the trailer's narative to suggest that that iteration of Shepard was romantically involved with Miranda - he just made out with her in a few scenes for no real reason other than she was the "sexy" woman in a skintight uniform, which for me was kinda sexist and demeaning (regardless of my preferences of which characters my Shepard/s romances).

Yes! Seriously though, Femshep romances everyone. Remember that. Some of us like Kaidan. Some of us also like Thane, Garrus, Liara, and Jacob. We also support others Femshep romances.

Absolutely! Through romance or Renegade playthroughs, sometimes both, I have come to be fond of all of the above, albeit to varying degrees (everybody has their favorite{s}, after all). I'm also looking forward to Vega and Diana and anybody else who's available, for that matter. To me, my "non-canon" playthroughs are just as fun in a different way--I don't go with my gut as much when I romance Jacob or Liara as when I romance Thane, I go with what that Shepard likes and enjoy her exploring the relationship(s) that suit her.

I think it was good for me to do this--I feel I learned to respect the differences between people a little more by putting aside my own preferences and deliberately looking for the good in each character that I romanced. There's someone for everyone. A seemingly dull character can be so much more when you give them the right dynamic.

I guess that's why I never romanced Miranda or Tali. I like them, but I never felt strongly enough about them to say, "oh, I have to make sure she's happy!" or "why would anyone ever romance that one?" Whereas with Jacob, it was like, "I have trouble making sense of his character, and I hate Shepard's come-on lines." It was a challenge to start something with him that would make me feel comfortable with Shepard's thought process; that would make me believe in the romance. I was interested enough to want to try.

I guess it's true--the opposites of love and hate really aren't each other, but indifference!

It's not wrong to be honest about your opinions, but you can be honest in very different ways. Like so (goofy, non-serious, exaggerated example follows):

Statement 1: Bob is boring and he sucks scaly krogan arse. Ugh, it would be so disgusting if Shepard kissed him.

This statement is nonspecific and potentially hurtful. It essentially accuses Bob-lovers of liking disgusting, boring, krogan-sucking things. It makes the person who says it look bad even if they were just expressing a feeling without meaning any harm.

Statement 2: I don't find Bob as interesting as the other characters. Tiffany talks to her teddy bear and shoots anyone who insults him unless she gets her meds on time and is regularly searched for firearms, Stan juggles while discussing politics and never wears anything but boots, Cora is a tickle-ninja with daddy issues whose paintings are in galleries all over the galaxy... Bob just sorta cleans his gun all day. He doesn't share stories about his past like the others do, and that just turned me off. I would be disappointed to watch Shepard snog him when there are so many others where the personality dynamics would enhance the scene greatly.

Granted, #2 takes more energy, but it also makes for superior discussion and it keeps the peace with our fellow Fem-Shep lovers. It opens the field for new input--like, "Actually, if you steal Bob's gun and smash it on the floor, he starts to cry, which opens up the quest to solve his PTSD and fleshes him out a lot more..."

Reserving judgment on how you'll feel about a character once you've seen them more than once or in a different scenario... that's never wrong.

Quite obviously they could only show a few seconds of romance scenes, so they could only show a glimpse of a romance scene. Clearly they chose the Miranda encounter as the most "iconic" of the game.

The games are, at the end of the day, still action-RPGs. That will always remain the focus of the trailers (and that's fine for me- ME2 is about fighting the Collectors, not which squadmate you choose to bang), but the romance scenes hint at Shepard's wider life beyond the main storyline. Easiest way (and the one with the most bang-for-your-buck, pun intended) is through a scene like that. Its pretty similar to what Hawke got (again, with Isabela, the sexy 'leading lady' of DA2). However at the end of the day it was just one of the romance possibilties in the game, and is no more or less valid than any of the others.

To get annoyed about a scene like that in the trailers seems to me to be, imo, sweating the small stuff. I shrug my shoulders and move on to playing the characters and romances that appeal to me the most.

It's an image showing that Bioware uploaded a femshep video to Youtube.  The video has been removed, however.  Hopefully soon the video will be reuploaded and made public.

Yeah it was just showing that the Femshep trailer is uploaded, its just private right now.

Also, special thanks to Ottemis and Aislinn. I asked Ottemis for help modding Faye just a bit. I thought her mouth was too narrow so she helped me mod it so it was wider. She also helped me mod the beret on. Aislinn helped me with the texmod to make it black! Thanks guys you are awesome!

Hello ME3 Femshep thread. David Silverman apparently hasn't played using FemShep yet. If we get #FemShepFriday trending on Twitter, he says he will, and then he can finally see the error of his ways.

So, start tweeting.

(Also, long time no see for most of you... been staying away to avoid spoilers... will probably mostly disappear again until after the 6th, so hello all. TRAILER IS FINALLY COMING!!)

And for lasts, if this is FemShep's moment to shine and be ass-kicking, I don't really want to see her being all romantic, frankly. I'd rather her not be in 'ubersexy' mode and rather see her doing her job as a soldier.

This.

I have Kaidan and Garrus and Thane romancing Sheps, but I just rather... not have any romance in her trailer? Or at least not tons of kissyface overshadowing a more generic trailer that can accommodate everyone better. There are other ways to showcase emotion and humanity that don't involve romance. It doesn't make her a "prude ice queen" if she's not making out with some dude. It's not a matter of hating Kaidan or wanting my prefered love interest shown instead.

And David Silverman... that guy makes my blood boil a bit... "give us free publicity and I'll think about playing a character, not because I actually care about her or anything". That's how that tweet came across to me. Then again, I am still salty at him from the DA2 marketing nightmare.
