My Shepard is proud, but he really joined the Ns as an alternate way to commit suicide...

Special Forces: Best training, Best Equipment and damned near suicidal missions.

Yeah, he may be a spacer but he had a f*cked up life. Lost a few too many people too closed to him. He's sort of plagued with good fortune.

my canon is called alexander and my vanguard is adrian sono dick sheps for me >_>

My Shepard didn't know his father til he was 6. His father doesn't know how to act like one and treats Shepard likes a subordinate.
He married his first girlfriend who died a week later on Elysium during his posting there.
He dropped off the radar, getting involved with god only knows what, sleeping with women and stick needles in his arm. Tried to drink himself to death.
Married his second wife.
Got picked up by Navy personal and shoved into rehab.
Seperated from his second wife, sent off the N7s after cleaning up his act and got half way through divorving her wife before she got KIAed.
To top it off, he has suicidal and sadistic tendancies... (he likes dental torture... alot!)

That's about it in a nutshell.

Maybe mine isn't so bad.

He was just stalked by Cerberus when he was a child, raised by his single spazz of a dad and his goofy little sister, said sis gets skewered when their house falls in on them during the Mindoir raid while his dad gets killed outside by the Batarians. Was saved by Anderson who seeing his biotic potential decided to encourage him to join the army, joins but utterly hates it there but because his family's dead and he's broke he has no other choice, gets PTSD after his first battle but is forced back on the field anyway ends up taking some preformance enchancer drugs that have the pleasant side effect of making him numb, gets addicted, ends up going to rehab and falling in love with his doctor, gets clean then said doctor died during the Elysium attack, year later Akuze happens and yeah would've gone back to the drugs but barely managed to resist in memory of said doctor instead deciding to throw himself into the military fully. Became a massive douche to stop himself from breaking down because he hated being a soldier but he couldn't do anything else but fight.

So now he utterly hates himself and pretty much everything else.
