Over the years I've gotten pretty immune to scary movies, but the point of this thread is to talk about the ones that make you lock the doors and windows.
First scary movie I can remember was IT, ever since then I don't like clowns, they freak me out. For a long time as a kid I was afraid the monster from IT was coming for me.
Since then no movie has scared me the way IT has, but I'll give honorable mentions to The Ring, Rose Red, and 1408.
What movies/books/games have scared you?

Silence of the Lambs scared the daylights out of me...still does every time I see it...it's that deeply psychological kind of scary that creeps up the back of your neck!

I remember seeing The Thing at far too young an age, and because of that scene with the dog I didn't let my cat sleep in my room for the next month
Then there was Nightmare on Elm Street (also at a young age
). That scene where Johnny Depp gets swallowed up by his bed in a fountain of gore? I was sleeping on the floor for weeks...
I've always had an overactive imagination so scary movies/books/games were always far worse for me after they were over. I've typically tried to avoid them for that reason.

Poltergeist. To make things worse there was an earth tremor that night. I think I lost three years of life before I realised why the room was shaking.
I have no problems with horror movies about people doing horrible things, but introduce an element of supernatural and I'm off. I avoid them whenever possible.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day was one of my favorite movies growin up. I used to watch it on VHS every Friday night. Then I would have nightmare of the T-1000. Even to this day Robert Patrick scares me a little.

E.T. scared the crap out of me when I was young, especially the part when he screamed in the garage.

IT (Movie). I was too young when i saw it (peeked through the door while my sister and her friends watched it). I only managed to watch it years later with the help of Scotch... I still have some problems with this movie, but i got better (notably no problems with the book, or with ordinary clowns. I just am scared of Tim Curry as Pennywise).
For books there were two cases, short stories actually. "The Boogeyman", also by King. I remember flinging the book across the room. And "The color out of space" by Lovecraft. Good stories, made me immune to pretty much everything thereafter.

Movies: End of Evangelion is pretty f-ed up. You can't be in a right state of mind after watching that. Black Christmas was a little scary. Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel was scary, but for the wrong reasons.
Books: A wrinkle in time had a few weird moments, but nothing scary.
Games: Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. If you click on this one bathtub in the game, it does these quick zoom shots towards a dead woman in the tub that you wouldn't see before, it gave me a heart attack. I showed this to one friend of mine without telling him about it, he screamed like a girl. Amnesia: TDD gave me genuine scares, both from modded stories and the original. Do not underestimate the power of atmosphere.

The Blair Witch Project / The Haunting (original) / The Entity - I usually find I am far more scared of what's not there than what is. In my opinion it's much more frightening to conjure up your own mental image and these films created for me the right balance. The loud, imposing thudding of the poltergeist in The Haunting; or the presence of the witch in the woods at night when it's pounding on the tent and driving them out... Ugh. I couldn't settle for days afterwards.
F.E.A.R games / Amnesia: The Dark Descent - Again it's the creepy noises and poor lighting that hits me hard. The water bit in Amnesia ( where you have to cross without touching whilst the ghost splashes around D:) was simply too much for my brain to cope with and I haven't played it since!

The book "Krabat" by Otfried Preußler scared me so much when I was younger...
The book deals primarily with black magic and the lure of evil. It's about a miller who grinds human bones... that scared the hell out of me. I really can recomand this book.

Oh and as for video games...
When I played Bioshock, I couldn't do it without having the lights on... I was constantly looking behind me...

Silent Hill 1&3: SH1 was the first survival horror game that I've played. I've never played it at night, even after finishing it multiple times.
Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines: The haunted hotel portion was scary when I played it for the first time.

arr0whead is right. The haunted hotel in VTMB IS pretty scary. I got through it easily enough though, because I figured ghosts couldn't harm vampires all that much. But I was a little aprehensive about what I'd find in that washing machine....

Movies with lots of gore sometimes do scare me, but mostly just ruin my appetite. As for psychological horror it just doesn't affect me like it affects others.
Amnesia: Dark Descent is the only game to ever scare me. Dead Space has some scary parts, but those are mainly jump scares.

Fear. Those games scared the bejesus out of me. I couldn't even play it with people in the room in full blown daylight! I was creeped out/scared to go to bed for a while. But I did complete the game. No matter how long it did take me.

YES! I so agree with you there! It was so creepy. I couldn't even do it alone. After a few days I called my bestie to come over and keep me company.

Ever? The first two "A Nightmare on Elm Street" movies scared the crap out of me as a kid. "Hellraiser" gave me a few nightmares. It also gave me a dream with a comical twist, so maybe that doesn't count.
Most zombie movies still freak me out to this day. I can watch them without freaking out too much. Fear generally sets in later on when I'm going to bed. Several TV specials about alien abduction, paranormal phenomena, and doomsday prophecies had a similar effect when I was younger.
I usually do not feel fear experience some form of entertainment. The problem is I have a vivid imagination. It takes whatever material I experience and magnifies into truly horrible thoughts and dreams. No book or movie has come close to instilling that level of fear in me. And games? With the exception of Silent Hill 2 and the Ocean House map in VtMB, all horror games I played are too reliant on jump scares to count.

Insidious and Jaws come to mind (though with Jaws I was young).
Dead Space and 343 Guilty Spark on Halo:CE creep me out.

I was ok with stuff like Halloween and Friday the 13th when I was a kid, but Nightmare on Elm Street scared the crap out of me.
Despite the fact I loved Ghostbusters some of the ghosts put the sh*ts up me, specifically the old woman in the library, the hands from the sofa and the kidnapper ghost from Ghostbuster 2 along with the Bogeyman from the cartoon were the prime offenders.
The worst one though was Childs Play, I watched it when I was about 8 or 9 I think and it terrified me for years.
There was another but I've no idea what it was, I was just walking through the living room when I caught a glimpse of it. Two kids hiding in what appeared to be a log cabin in the woods as a large green monster/man came out of the woods towards their house, them looking out the window before trying to hide as he searched the house claiming to be their "papa". It might not have even been a horror but that guy freaked me the hell out.

The film 'Wait Until Dark' is still my fave suspense movie, and scared me out of my chair in my youth thanks to the terrific casting, acting, direction, and story. The kick to the back of my chair may also have had a part in this, too.

Only movie I can think of that scared me was Signs, if you can believe it. Possibly the original Exorcist
In hindsight it wasn't remotely scary. But I used to watch a lot, and I mean a lot, of horror movies when I was about ten years old so I was actually used to most of it. But with my fascination of alien lifeforms something about Signs just creeped me the hell out. Guess the semi-plausible storyline did that for me.
