Hi all of you guys and fans of ME story..

I was a little curious about the upcoming movie. So I logged on IMDB and just read about the updated version of the movie. And where it says that the movie will be about the events from the first Mass Effect. Can it really be true?

Wht are you saying about it? I was hoping for a pre-quel. But now it actually sounds that it will be about the events from, which i said the first ME.

I think it might work anyway, but what are your thoughts?

I thought Legendary Pictures already confirmed that it was a cinematic retelling of ME1, but that could have been a rumour.

But yeah, OP. I was hoping for a film adaptation of the FCW.

I think it's a mistake to base it on the first game. ME universe is so big that they could have done pretty much any genre, style and story but instead they chose this. I expect another failed movie to game adaptation but I hope it will work out.

it's better to make a film based on the trilogy than it is to base it on something only the gamers know about.

reaches a wilder audience and no one has to know the background of the game's universe

I would have liked for them to make movies of the books (Revelation basically almost reads like a movie novelization anyway).
But I guess the first game will be fine if they do it right. I just wonder how they are going to do without actually separating the actors and the voices because it would be a shame if a movie that is obviously made for fans of the franchise doesn't use the original voices AND actors that look more or less like the digital characters.
Besides, the said they wont even have Seth Green.
Hm, the more I think about it, the more I am convinced this will not turn out well. Ahhhhh, at least we'll get some nice visuals of the Normandy SR1.

@moo: Sorry but that doesn't make much sense to me. It's only the gamers who know the trilogy, too. And the rather large plot of the game and the necessity to put in all the background players get from the codex, they'll have a hell of time fitting all that into a two hour movie. If exposition is your argument, then they should make a movie about the discovery of the ruins on mars and the first contact war.

Yeah i know this, But the first time I read it, it said that it would be about first contact with the Batarians. So it's really Confirmed now that it will be about the events from ME1?

I think they want to start on solid ground with something established, video game movies rarely turn out well anyway. Better they do a cinematic retelling than a shot in the dark that most likely they will fail at.

If it is confirmed that it will be about ME1, I hope not they will fail with it.

I mean, I'm as excited for the movie as for ME3

CONFRIMED.. will be based on ME1.

Q: Will it just be an adaptation of the first game, second game, or a completely new story?
A: It will focus on Commander Shepard’s journey, centering around the story of the original Mass Effect game.

Q: How are you going to address the element of ‘choice’ that the players have in the game?
A: The writer is weaving a path through Shepard’s decisions that best supports the narrative of the movie and the motivations of its characters.

Q: Will it be a trilogy?
A: We are really focused on making this a great movie, so we’ll see where it takes us. We have to get the first one right to know whether there will be more.

Q: Will Seth Green portray Joker, the character he voiced in the game?
A: No casting decisions have been made yet.

Q: Will the movie be focused on Shepard?
A: Yes.

Q: If the movie is focused on Shepard, will it be the male Shepard or the female Shepard?
A: Male.

Q: Can you give any hints to potential casting?
A: No. Stay tuned.

Q: Will BioWare allow plot / character changes?
A: Yes, we are working closely with BioWare on the development of this project.

Q: Would you consider Daft Punk to do the soundtrack?
A: We love Daft Punk, but it’s too early to say who will produce the soundtrack.

Obviously they need Keith David for Captain Anderson and not casting Seth Greene as Joker would be pretty silly as he is based on Seth's likeness.

Male Shepard, a movie that will no doubt establish a "canon," and slim to none chance that the original cast will be starring in it thanks to the whole live action shebang.

Boo, I say! Boo!

I don't see why we need a movie, ME 1 was practically one anyway.

I know, right?

Seriously, though, making a movie based off the game is defeating the point of the game.  It was good because it was personal, and different every time you played it.  It was powerful because you WERE Shepard, the events in the story happened to YOU, and YOU did something about it.  Movies can't do that.

Even if it's a really good movie, it's just not...  I don't know, not right.

I'll support the movie.

Do not fail me Legendary, you are currently mining very personal IPs for me.

Mass Effect, Godzilla, Batman, Superman . . . what will you take from my childhood to make gold next?

So are you saying the Movie is farther along than what the blog implies or are you saying the Movie is no longer in production.

It would be a shame to see the game go the way of Halo's movie chance.<_<

I'm saying that what you're discussing is what Legendary said back in August last year. As with all things, I'm sure there are changes, evolutions, developments, etc that have happened since.

And even though I regulary have dinner with Cloney, Spielburg, PIt and Jolly, I haven't been able to learn any new details. Sorry.
