Video game to movie...straight to DVD. I can't think of any friend I now have that are gamers so they certainly wouldn't know anything about ME or care about watching a film on it.

Okay, maybe if it had Chuck Norris in it as Commander Shepard, it might make it.

Most people didn't know anything about the 300 or Watchmen comic. It'll be advertised as an exciting Sci-Fi Action/Adventure. It'll draw people in.

On the whole romance thing, I'm of the opinion that the main character banging a blue chick would actually be the proper American response see Avatar.

^ Yeah, they have been making LOTS of Money due to the Success of the Batman Films.

Mass Effect is being made by Warner Bros. AND Legendary Pictures I think.

Legendary hasn't handled a franchise with as little established canon as Mass Effect.

And even those Batman movies are grossly overrated.

Good movies? Sure.

Best movies of all time? Hell no.

Did I, or we, ever say The Dark Knight movies were the "best movies of all time"? No but they are still good great movies and they most certainly did not fail.

The this is that Nolan would probably make the film while HARDLY using any CGI. Would Mass Effect look good without it?

Umm..you're trying to compare graphic novels that topped in the New York Times to ME...That's a whole different ballgame.

Ah, with some of the best games of the last few years up to have movies made we might actually get to see games start getting something other than low-budget and terribly handled.

Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if they flopped. I'm not entirely convinced movie studies are ready to put suitable weight into the creativity and originality still untapped from the game market.

Well that's where the story got laid out, so why not. I won't mind the movie doing something different than my playthrough. I hope whoever gets cast as Kaiden knows he's going to die lol. I don't see that decision going against Ashley.

It all comes down to the casting though, if they hit a home run with fresh new talent like Star Trek 2009 did it could be great, if they mess over the casting not so much. They need to find a great voice for Sovereign too.

A fair point. Mass Effect would definitely need some CGI.

You dont know how your choices will outcome yet, maybe the movie going to be about a "right-choice" straight through.
Maybe som choices are right and some are wrong and bad.

Nah, it's not about the choices made being different from mine (which they likely will), just the fact that I don't care. It's why I don't watch playthroughs on say, YouTube, unless it's just content I skipped/missed (like romances/dialogues).

There's a lot of good Directors to choose: Christopher Nolan, Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, Neil Blomkamp, James Cameron....

Really? I don't know, but I was under the impression that ME was popular. A lot of people, where I live like it.

He's always made movies I like.  Batman begins, Dark Knight, Inception, the Prestige.

Thanks OP, Hadn't heard anything about the ME movie but then again I wasn't looking. Hope it does well, anyone else like Battlefield Earth, WaterWorld and Wing Commander?

Yes, games are popular in our little geek culture but not with the wider audience. Go look at the critic scores on other games turned to movies and you'll either cringe or get a good laugh.

Old news, but  I very much fear a ME1 based movie. I have difficult time imagining how could it work.

I'd be okay if they made a movie featuring default Sheploo and like his early military service. Perhaps Akuze and all that stuff. Though truthfully that probably wouldn't be all that exciting. Hence why I've strongly believe the First Contact War to be an ideal scenario. I'd also be okay if they did an ME1 side-story. You know perhaps feature someone's else point of view of events during ME1. Like I'd be fine if they showed us what all Cerberus was up to during ME1. As for those saying "Well only Mass Effect fans know about the FCW!" We don't know diddly squat. All we know is the Humans pissed off a Turian Patrol by messing with a Relay, The Turians came and took Shanxi,  and General Williams surrendered. Yes we know so much about it.

And I must ask why is ME1's Story better for new audiences? Those who aren't fans aren't going to know what the Genophage is. Who the Protheans are. These people will not have access to a codex or investigate dialog options. They will be completely and utterly in the dark. In the end the general audience will likely be hopelessy lost without that kind of exposition. And there's no freaking way you can provide sufficient exposition on the all the stuff that mattered, because that alone would take two hours. I don't want to see a movie where Shepard spends half the damn movie talking to his crew.

And I also don't want to see a Movie based on ME1 were they cut out significant parts of the story. Who knows what they'll cut out? Maybe they won't even mention Protheans. Perhaps they'll leave out the Citadel. Maybe they'll leave out Garrus or Wrex due to time constraints. ME1 is like a 15 hour game even if you rush through it. You expect that it can be condensed into 2 hours? This isn't a book were talking about here where most of the pages are spent detailing surroundings. Also bear in mind that the voice actors you know and love, probably won't voice their characters in this movie. (Unless it's completely CGI, which honestly might be a good idea since Bioware has made some really good CGI Cutscenes recently.) Shepard will not be voiced by Meer or Hale. And whatever actors you think might be "perfect" to play whichever character, probably won't be picked. So you'll likely have an odd cast that is completely unrecognizable to existing fans and unremarkable to the movie audience.

As I said a scenario set during ME1 is fine. A movie trying to re-enact ME1 has to be executed perfectly, otherwise it will likely be bashed by movie critics and general audiences alike. Trust me movie going folk are very picky and most people already have a very negative opinion of anything based on video games.

Look I'm not under the misguided impression Mass Effect could be the next LOTR. But I think, if done right, it could be as good as the new Star Trek movie. But hey guess what! The new Star Trek used an entirely different universe and arguably for the better. That way Non-Star Trek Nerds could enjoy the movie. Which is precisely why something like the FCW is an excellent choice. You don't need to know anything about Turians, Asari, Krogan, Salarians, etc. Cause to the humans in the movie all those aliens would be new and weird too. Plus you have the setting of an actual planetary war for good action set pieces. There is no war in Mass Effect 1. It's just Saren cruising around in Sovereign with a Geth Escort. The only proper cinematic battle would be the Battle of the Citadel. As cool as that was, it's probably best off not being re-made into a movie as they'll likely have the Normandy constantly barrel-rolling so it's more "cool". Leave the game trilogy alone. Mass Effect has so much potential to be more.

Yeah i can agree in some parts, but it isnt that hard to write down everything to an 2-3 h movie.. Its just to skip having a Shepard browsing in stores, or give a damn of probing every little inch of a planet. Skip taking night walks on the normandy to finding anything to do, when its completely death. Or just stop thinking every time of what choice u need to make. "What the fuk am I going to do?!...... search youtube.. waiting hours for right choice.. THATS IT! " :innocent:

Its not that hard. But yeah i can agree in many other parts, :)

At best I'm expectin a summer blockbuster that plays out like "Bond in Space" at worst, well your average Syfy Original movie.
