Here is the relative time frame you'd likely have to follow:
Normandy/Eden Prime: 12 Minutes
Citadel/Trial: 15 Minutes
Therum: 10 Minutes
Feros: 15 Minutes
Noveria: 15 Minutes
Virmire: 20 Minutes
Citadel: 10 Minutes
Ilos: 10 minutes
Battle of the Citadel: 15 Minutes
Total Run Time: 112 Minutes
At most you can maybe allocate another 8 minutes, but then it might be "too long".
Now think about those scenes. Think about what all has to happen both
general action and just dialogue. That have to really chop, chop, chop
to get through all that. Or they have to remove one of those sections.
Which is probably not a good idea as then the whole story gets messed
up.
Nah.. LOTS extended edition is like..10 hours total. A good story is never "too long".
Also, you can easy cut out half hte unnecessary part from that list.
Thorian ins't relaly important for the main plot. Lira and her mother can both be at the same location. There - just thse two changes and you removed 2 entire locations wihout a major impact on the story.
So no, the story doesn't get "messed up" if you remove things you don't really need. For the story to prgoress, Shep needs to recruit certain individuals and get certain info.
The order and location of those doesn't have to be exactly the same as in the game.
Look if I wanted to go through the entire Mass Effect 1 plot, I'd play that game again. I don't mind if it's based on the Mass Effect one plot, but please don't make it exactly the same story. I don't mind something loosely based on the game. I don't mind the film taking a lot of creative liberties here. I'm sorry but I'm going to disagree with most people on this thread.
It doesn't have to 100% conform to the Mass Effect canon. This is a film. It can be it's own canon. Which would you rather. A poor version of the original game, or a really good film that has elements of the original game, but stands on it's own two feet.
The list of locations is far too long for a 112 minute experience.
First of all you can cut Therum and Feros out of the film. There should be more emotional drama in Noveria and Virmire (which provided the most interesting points in the game).
Racni Queen
Wrex situation
Ashley/Kaidan
and also
the Saren confrontation at the end of the film
Those are great cinematic moments. Add Feros and the audience would end up looking confused (unless they've played the game) and Therum is too much film time taken just to recuit one character.
