Er, but the second link has the girl in some weird kind of hooker get-up ... she isn't even wearing pants. I'm not entirely sure she has underwear on. How is her outfit a unique representation of her culture? Are they pointy-eared vampires who keep their women as hookers?

I'll take two tickets on the overnight flight, please.  I wish to broaden my horizons.

Well, the Dokkalfar male's robes are distinctively Elven. At least I hope they're distinctively Elven and not something other people were in KoA.

I mean, yea the women may not be dressed in full clothing, but that's not what I want so don't misunderstand me. If I wanted hooker getups I wouldn't have complained about the leather bikinis of DAO.

Okay, I'll take your word on that; I don't know anything about whatever game or series those characters are from.

And thank you for taking a stand against leather bikini armor on female characters in video games; it's a pet peeve of mine and just feels like one way developers show that female players are not welcome...  (In fairness, DA2 made great strides in correcting this.)

Actually, the majority of what EWR said is things I agree with. In my opinion though, I believe the elves should be representative of what little they have of the culture they have managed to scrounge up over the centuries. The changes in DAII were a step in the right direction, but they went about it all wrong. I like the idea of separating their look from humans, but not to the point of being disgusting martians. I think that they should be more towards that Amalur look, and that of the LOTR series. Yes, they still looked somewhat human, but they still had their own look. Also, if you have seen the Two Towers, take a gander at the armor the elves wore in the movie. Seems a lot like the Ancient Elven Armor in DA:O, huh?

Going by the text, these 'dark elves' are supposed to be a species of manipulators and seducers (warning: tvtropes link) hence the racy outfits of both males and females.

But since that's pretty much a giant cliche take on the whole dark elf idea, it strikes me as something that should be disliked by someone who'd want elves to have some "unique identity", rather than praised. Because even if that particular clothing style may be limited to dark elf "culture", there doesn't seem to be anything unique about that culture itself. It's cultural equivalent of the "elves are humans with pointy ears".

Actually, I thought it was something original to Amalur. I don't really know much about Elves in fantasy work, so if this is something that isn't unique but rather cliche then mea culpa. Image IPB

Take Lord of the Rings for example. Arent those just humans with pointy ears? The only differences are the way they dress, pointy ears, culture, and where they live. SOME HOW THOUGH, we still know that they are elves!

It's because they're always so clean.

Think about it!

Still, I don't think the new design is bad. A few tweaks here and there -- most notably getting the gorillas off of the male Elves' backs so they don't hunch over anymore. -- and the new design will be fine.

I would ask that Bioware work on the Elven noses a bit. I'm fine with the nasal bridge extending all the way into the forehead, but I would like for the noses to... well not look squished like Pol's did, especially when he had a different style nose in DAO.

Also, eyebrows. Elves need eyebrows. Both Zevran and Pol were lacking eyebrows.

But anyway, the visualization of the culture and attire is what will primarily identify them as Elves. And that's what I want Bioware to focus their attention on.

I'm actually curious as to what the devs' position on this is and I think a comment by some of them would do wonders.

They weren't all bad. I didn't mind them for characters like Lia or Athenril, where they looked great on them.

Some were bad though, like as I said Pol.

It defines them as a whole different race other than just having a nose like a human, I like it =3

Elves are better in DAII I say~

I am sure the artist who created the elves in DA2 is talented and worked hard, however IMO they looked very unattractive - humanoid for sure. They have a hunched movement/posture and appear anorexic. In just about all lore I have read about eleves, they are supposed to be beautiful, ethereal creatures. Beautiful elves in DA2 - not so much!

The green leaf armour and shield were a nice design and they were unique to the dalish. Although IIRC only the "Werewolf! You murdered my mother!" import elf wore the armour.

Arravels look like they can actually be pulled by the hella now but I really miss the Romy caravan design they used to have.

DA2 elves were bad enough that I don't even know who any of those characters are, and I played the game twice.

Perhaps if their appearances were more to my liking I'd remember them better. Sucks for me cause it'd be asinine to expect EVERYTHING to go my way.

I found the elves in DAO quite beautiful. Not all, but quite a few.

In DA2, I can't think of a single one.

Did the elves have long necks? I don't recall.

Actually, looking back, I kinda do. Kinda.
