I bought the 4 in 1 dvd box set (australia), of which BG2 ToB is working fine but bg1 + exp isn't working.

It installed fine, but after playing the intro clips just before hitting the main menu it crashes to desktop and windows gives me the "TOTSC has stopped working" msg...

- Custom install with all options selected
- Completely vanilla, no mods
- Installed to a secondary hdd (so not c:program files)
- I've tried all 3 different official patches (us, uk & int) (from sorcerer's place)
- Tried all the windows compatibility mode versions
- I've tried cracking according to http://social.biowar...0/index/6305003 (copying cd 1-6 info and running crack, as well as gamecopyworld crack)

The issue hasn't changed from fresh install to after trying any of the fixes. The exact same crash still happens.

Going to try re-installing without expansion to see if that works (just to narrow down what the issue is), but would love to hear some other things I could try doing, anything different at all.

Kind of funny that planescape torment installed and plays without issues but this won't...

Hey, I'm having the exact same problem with the 4 in 1 dvd box set.

I use the Kaspersky antivirus, and adding the game's .exe to the exclusion list of the antivirus made that stop. But now it crashes the same way when I try to start a new game or load a game. I'm trying to figure out what is it now.
It's weird because this is only happening with my notebook. The game works well enough on the pc. It also works on the notebook if I try to run it while in the safe mode (but that has no sound and sucks).
I'm trying to figure out why that is happening on the notebook but not on the pc...

I tried to uninstall the antivirus and run the game, and it still crashes. So I guess that's not the problem anymore.

Are you using the Windows 7 starter edition, by any chance? Cause that's on my notebook, but not on my pc (the pc uses some other version of Windows 7).

Hey there, I managed to fix it by changing my operating system, after all. Now I have Windows 7 ultimate on my pc and everything is working. Windows 7 starter edition is a terrible operating system, I just had it because it came with the notebook.

I hope you can solve your problem too. Farewell!

There can be problems loading the game initially when in fullscreen. That's normally in multi-player, but you might try putting it into windowed mode and see what happens. If the game does start OK you should then be able to revert to full screen safely.

I'm using win7 ultimate, avast antivirus, and i'm on a pc. Had already added BG to it's exclusion list.
@grond0, I thought only bg2 would start in windowed mode. How do I get bg1 to do it? It wasn't in config.
I think i'll just try running it in an XP virtual machine

When the game screen first comes up press alt+enter to get into windowed mode (and again to get back to full screen). Another thing you could do is check whether another programme is interfering by turning everything else off before starting the game - it's not just virus checkers that can cause problems.
