Of all the fictional universes I've experienced, Mass Effect and Dune are the two that I think would suit a MMO the most.

Mass Effect almost seems perfect for such a game. The only problem would be when it is set. If we set if after ME3, we have to find some sort of canon for the events of ME3, and with all the variables it would be very hard to do. Perhaps it would work if it was set some large amount of time after the Reaper attack.
If it was set before it could work. What if it was set just after the first contact war? That generally would probably be a more feasible setting but I don't think I would enjoy it as much as I would for one set after it.
It could be set well before Humans even entered the galactic scene, perhaps around the Morning war, the Krogan rebellions, or the Rachni wars.

My personal suggestion would be to set it well after ME3, during the rise of another conflict, a conflict alluded to as a 'singularity' if you have read the leak. I won't say more because that would be massive spoilers and even then not enough is known.

Mass Effect seems perfect for a MMO with a Dragon Age: Origins kind of opener. We have combat classes and different races. Each one could have a different 'Origin' story until they are released upon the universe.

It's funny you say that because I would prefer it be before the events of ME1. So many wars that we can play out as characters. Although we know the outcome, it would still be fun, much the same as SWTOR as we know the Jedi ultimately beat the empire to a degree.

I would personally love to see a ME MMO, as you said it fits the genre very well I think. With that said I understand everyone's concerns as well. As with all MMOs it largely depends on how it is made.

I don't play games where I must buy the game and then pay a monthly access fee to play it. I also don't play games where I'm eternally behind because I refuse to pay to win.

Not really. As much as I'm rocking ToR, the parts I'm enjoying are universally 'the bits borrowed from singleplayer', whilst the parts that I don't enjoy and/or cause me a fair amount of frustration are the actual mmo features.

That said, if we were talking a Planetside style mmo in the mass effect setting? Hell to the yes.

My issue with MMO's is that there are two parts of most RPG's:

1. Grinding (looting and trash mobs)
2. Story and character

MMO's go heavy on #1 and light to nil on #2. Not interested in that.

Unlikely but who knows.

I'm sure multiplayer in ME3 will be somewhat of an experiment on how multiplayer could work in the Mass Effect universe. If it's successful, I'd bet good money Bioware will make an mmo or some kind of multiplayer focused mass effect game in the near future.

Me? While I love multi-player (Neverwinter Nights) I have never had any interest in large scale MMO environments.

If there were a MP version of the Mass Effect universe designed to function similar to NWN (complete with development toolset and local hosting) I might be interested in something like that, but I am simply not interested in MMO environments.

if they do an mmo ( wouldnt be shocked if they did and not saying its bad) but they could introduce something thats maybe after the events of me3 wich would include the following

rebuilding and colonizing worlds that have been lost to the reapers

learning from the protheans past on how to  prepare for another cycle,invasion,w/e

start a empire and get rid of the council  that benefits every corner of the universe isntead of citadel space

introduce diplomacey missions to gain or lose loyalty amongst worlds and species

instead of paying 15 bucks a much charge a few between 50 to 60 bucks a year

think of it like almost a rebirth type game

I like this idea as well. There is so much potential with that in my opinion.

The funny thing is that if they dont make an MMO I am 120% fine with that. As long as theykeep this universe alive, I am happy.

No. I was really upset to find that SWTOR was going to be an MMO. Needless to say, my Old Republic story line ended when KOTOR2 did. I made up my own story after that. Luckily, Shepard's story will end before they destroy the series with MMO crap.

Okay, I know this is sooo left field, but I am curious as to what the general fanbase thought on this.
I don't know if this has been discussed before, but forgive me if I missed it.

I play SWTOR and was in the group that hated the idea initially. Now I really like the game.

With that said, I think a ME MMO would be more successful. That is due to the fact that we already have three games that has introduced us to the universe. Plus believe it or not, this IP is more "fresh" than Star Wars which is very well establish over the past decades. I think more people would dive in.

Now I am not sure what the story setup would or should be for this game as an MMO, but I think the idea of creating a character from all of the races would be fun building up and being part of the many factions in the game. If they would do it though, I would want it to truly be fresh on mechanics and such opposed to traditional MMOs.

What are your thoughts on this?

If this doesn't belong in this forum, I apologize again.

I'm not interested in playing an MMO.

Storytelling usually doesn't translate well into MMO's, unless it is heavily instanced such as the CRPG Guild Wars (or dynamic such as EVE Online / Guild Wars 2). Methinks.

So, no, thanks.

After playing SWTOR, I am now confident that a good RPG type game can be done in a mmo.  So yes, I would at least give it a try.

Scratch my earlier post where I said a Mass Effect MMO would be the first MMO I would try. I totally want this idea instead. although if this happens it would probably be the last videogame I would ever buy.
