all discussion is good in the grand scheme of things.
Well, I don't know.
Because of this thread, I now know Bioware were either complicit in the ludicrousness of the book, or incompetent enough not to realise the butchering of their own material.
Because of this thread I'm now less likely to think Mass Effect's other media - books, comics, movies - are given the proper storytelling and continuity attention they deserve. If two employees - Casey Hudson and somebody else, possibly Walters - can read over Deception and pass it along as fault-free, what does that say for the care given to the wider IP?
If we can't even work out what year the book is set in, because it contradicts itself three or four times and contradicts the wider timeline almost too many times to count, surely there's a problem? If Deception *cannot* logically take place within the Mass Effect universe timeline, surely there's a problem?
I'm sure ME3 will tjurn out fantastically. It looks amazing, and by the look of the script due dilligence has been done on the part of the writers to ensure what they've created matches up with the IP.
But a part of me from now on will always wonder how genuinely the company takes pride in its setting and universe, when something like this book can be designed, written and launched with as many errors and sheer lapses in continuity as it has. It was the responsibility of the ME team to assist Dietz in sticking to Karpyshyn's established lore and their own designs for the novel. It was the responsibility of the people who checked it to ensure that errors didn't make it into the final product.
Manifestly, they failed.

Honestly, I don't think I've seen BSN agree on something so comprehensively.

What about the gay fail though? You know, Hendel not being homosexual anymore?

Gillian (18 years old, 3 years older than 15) would have to remove her top a few times for that to be sure though. Kahlee too.

Thinking about it, this could be a Uwe Boll movie.

True.
But the autism fail just goes beyond the pale. It's horribly offensive. I don't know how Dietz could have written Gillian "getting over" her autism and not think it was NOT okay. What about the editor? What about the person at BioWare who signs off on this stuff?
I just... this is horrible.
No amount of macros, gifs, and Red Lantern blood vomit spewing pics can sum up how I feel about this.

I share this sensation for wanting to know the story, but not wanting to suffer the loss of money/time invested in it.
..Let me rephrase that; PM me ending pl0x.

I think changing a character's sexual orientation is just as offensive.

In other news, I will never see Shala'Raan the same way ever again.
