True.

But the autism fail just goes beyond the pale. It's horribly offensive. I don't know how Dietz could have written Gillian "getting over" her autism and not think it was NOT okay. What about the editor? What about the person at BioWare who signs off on this stuff?

I just... this is horrible.

No amount of macros, gifs, and Red Lantern blood vomit spewing pics can sum up how I feel about this.

I think changing a character's sexual orientation is just as offensive.

Yeah, both are horribly offensive.

I'm just really touchy about the autism thing on a personal level, because I have 2 autistic siblings. They've done really well the last 20-odd years, though there are times.

I just want to knee the writer in the shins. Ugh. I think I need a shower now.

Same could someone PM me the ending to?

Me too, please. I mean I know certain characters don't make it out alive but would like to know the actual details before I rage about it.

Particularly when he was currently the only gay male in the entire franchise. ¬.¬

Homer reads the Deception extract

Also, is anybody going to make a Downfall parody for this book?

Looking over the list of errors, I can explain a few away with a little work. Most, however, are just sad. Especially as the books and comics have, up to this point, been considered a canon part of the Mass Effect universe.

I was hoping that Kahlee and Gillian would show up in ME3 but now, maybe it would be better if they rode off into the sunset and we pretended this book didn't happen?

Total freaking win.

Also, anyone who hasn't seen the ending of Deception, let me know and I'll PM it to you.

I understand you, erasing of Gillian's autism was first moment when I started hating this book. This character was unique, sensitively described and successfuly avoid all "Rainman genius" clisché. For  people with lighter autism who can read such book, must Gillian have same importance like Uhura in Star Trek for Afroamericans. And Dietz simple butcher this character, because for him was autism only "flaw" on his planned character. Image IPB

Please continue discussing William Dietz's Mass Effect novel here. Let's talk about the novel and only the novel, and not mention anything outside the site's rules and regulations.

There is an excerpt available for the book, featuring the first fifty-plus pages.

There is also a Google docs page on all the myriad errors in this book. You won't believe your eyes. (For the record, if anyone is wondering whether or not they should purchase this book, the answer is a resounding no, save for potential noncanonical comedic value. Yes, it's technically classified as canon, but... no, just no.)

Beware of SPOILERS, of course.

Jesus H. Christ that list of errors is EMBARRASSING

Alright I'll bite. Can somebody pm me the ending please? I'll probably still get the book just to have all information before ME3. But I'd rather be prepared than unpleasantly surprised.

Best crossover pun I have ever seen. I tip my hat to you sir!

In other news, I will never see Shala'Raan the same way ever again.

My condolences.

/I've said that a lot lately.

Thank you guys so much for this
thread. Found it just in time. Still possible to cancel my Deception
pre-order. What a shame really [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/sad.png[/smilie]

Yeah thank's to all those who highlighted these points.

I didn't read the excerpt, but now seeing that list and the comments I'm glad I didn't spend time on it.
Shame, I was looking forward to this book. :(

Depending on how much you want to be spoiled, I can say that one of those characters has a substantial role in an ME3 mission.

The event of Deception make it pretty clear that the other character won't have a role.

Between Deception and ME3, Bioware will have pretty much comprehensively wrapped up the novel series. There is absolutely no way to continue it with any of Drew's original major characters, except possibly Anderson (and even then, I forget the details of his ME3 role).

Alright somebody just told me the ending. WTF?!!!! What in the ****ing ****?!!! I've never been so pissed off and laughed so hard at the same time. Oh my God. This HAS to be ret-conned. It just has to be. Drew you cannot let this stand. I never thought the books were literature masterpieces but the characters deserved better than this drivel. Oh man. Man oh man oh man oh man

All I know about Anderson myself is he's to remain on Earth directing the forces while you travel the galaxy to rally an army.

She's got more important things to worry about, like a Reaper invasion and who takes Tali's father's place. Likely Tali.

Drew Karpyshyn is in no position to do anything about it.

Its the higher ups like Casey Hudson that need to be contacted.
