Leng was partial to Mexican food so he ordered an enchilada, some tacos, and a shot of Honzo. The Marble was packed and that was one of the reasons why he liked the place. Leng spent a great deal of time by himself. And it was depressing to eat alone.

Maybe whoever it was that said Kai Leng was Sad Keanu was right...

Also, from what little I've read from this thread, I'm calling it: GREATEST BOOK EVER MADE. I mean really, why do we even need a Mass Effect 3? You've got all you need in this story! Romance, adventure, wacky cereal-based hijinks! Ten stars out of five, people.

When Anderson returned home, the very first thing he did was go to his cupboard. He was famished, and he knew that his favorite cereal would fill him right up. As he grabbed the box, he knew right away that something was wrong - his box of ArchAng-O's was much lighter than it had been this morning. Dropping the box on the floor, he stormed out of his apartment. He was on a mission now- to find a C-Sec officer and report the heinous crime that had been committed.

He grabbed the first officer he saw - a Turian who was standing vigilantly in front of a wall. Anderson had obviously interrupted some important standing time, because the Turian said in an unbelievably sarcastic voice "let me guess, someone ate your cereal."

Kai Leng used to be a badass assassin like you, but then he took a Dietz to the character.

Can it be worse than the Dragon Age novels (well, the first 2 anyway, haven't read any more)? Those were written by David Gaider from Bioware and were utterly atrocious.

Anyway, I bought it for the heck of it. I liked the other novels. Who knows if I'll like this one or not. I just know I keep buying the Mass Effect comics even when the art is ugly as heck and the story isn't as good as it could be, so why not buy this too? I guess I have this thing with wanting to know all of the side story stuff for my favorite more modern video game series.

This. Is. Awesome.

And hasn't his character been destroyed in this novel.

He used to be this awesome bad guy that made you cringe just reading him.

Now - I don't know what the hell he is.

Whatever he is, he will almost undoubtedly be back to proper form in ME3. There is, at least, this simple and beautiful truth.

After reading the short preview, I have to agree with the majority. This is just appallingly awful.

The comedic value, however, is priceless. Please, carry on.

Been trying to drudge through it, if only for the brief moments of comedy in a sea of sadness. Should I even bother? Is it bad? I mean, I know it's probably bad but is it "bad" bad or "funny" bad?

Okay, someone help me out here.

I read the 55 pages in the first post, and they hurt.

They HURT.

So many inconsistencies, things that didn't make sense, shoddy writing style, etc etc.

WHAT. THE HELL.

Its like I WANT to read more of it, because its funny how much it HURTS to read it.

I'm not the only one who wants Drew back on the ME projects, right?

Let us hope so, or we'll be hearing cereal jokes forever. Honestly what were they thinking?

Eating a guy's cereal...REALLY?!

Well, I dislike being the harbinger of bad press but here's a bit of excrept which made me see the problems:

So T’Loak read, and read, until she was couldn’t
read anymore. Then she took a nap on the couch that
took up most of one wall
. Two hours later she got up
and read again
. Meals came and were removed. Messages
went unanswered. All so T’Loak could accomplish
one thing— and that was to identify Liselle’s killer.
Finally, after more than twenty hours of unrelenting
work T’Loak found what she’d been looking for.

Seriously?

(I figured I'd paste in the one sentence scene between Anderson and Kahlee, but I thought that would probably break a few rules or something.)

Truly, the greatest deception about this book is trying to sell it as something worthwhile, but you can just see how half-assed it is. The moment I saw the word "deencrypt" I knew there was something wrong.

Hey, at least warn before posting such things! If I'll get black eye from this facepalm I'm blaming you as well!

Zhuinden wrote...

But because Anderson was busy making love to
Kahlee he missed the transition from one state to another.

So... is Anderson liquid or gaseous now? Maybe plasma?

Gillian fails to harm Illusive Man, let alone killing him?

Sigh...I knew what I was getting into when I started this thing...why do I still feel disappointment? Maybe I was just anticipating something....hilariously bad for how it ends. Sad.

Didymos - Do you mind PMing me the ending spoilers? I'm definitely not going to read the book. My only interest is in finding out if anything happens to the characters (If Gillian dies I'm gonna be real pissed).

If the gap between this preview and book release would be bigger, I would think it's a trick for free proofread.

There are now two types of Kai Leng

1. Comedic Kai Leng from Deception
2. Serious Kai Leng from Retribution

Serious Kai Leng will be the one who shows up in ME3

I doubt that anyone who have read about comedic Kai Leng would take the one from ME3 seriously.

Oh my God, the ending to the book is SOOOOO BAD.

Its horrific. I won't say anything about what actually happens, but my God.

Thats it-

this book never happened.
