Ask and ye shall receive, you poor buggers.

Sharing the pain?

It saves them from reading the book themselves. Painful but not as much as buying the book itself in hopes it'll be good.

Committing an evil atrocity in the hopes that it saves them from an even more evil atrocity.

I feel you. I've done the same.

Gillian's autism always struck me as less autism and more "we want River-Tam, so lets throw in some word that could explain why she acts like that."

That said, there's still no excuse for it being casually disregarded in the new novel.

You know what I would love?

I doubt we'll see a detailed defence of the novel, unfortunately.

I'd love to hear a justification for Gillian being 18 and not autistic, Hendel ogling asari, turians vanishing from Palaven and a batarian slaver vessel having a top secret drive system. That's not even mentioning the timing issues.

Although I'd wager there's some regret about certain tweets. The ones pertaining to fact-checking and reading through Deception in particular.

We should all mass tweet Casey.

https://twitter.com/#!/CaseyDHudson

If we all did it, I imagine he'd take notice.

I replied to an old tweet of his about the review of Deception, but I'll join in again if I must!

Lets go for it. Also, use the hashtag, #ThisIsHowWeDoIt

Amazon canceled my per-order, and if this thread is any indication, it looks like they saved me 8 bucks.

Can someone PM me the ending, please?

Casey is probably busy as heck, maybe even stressed, so I'd lay off the artillery :D It's not his fault, not really. His one comment was just that - he probably read a draft, but had to do the marketing talk if he was to go public.

But I'd gladly join if we can somehow reach the editors. Not game project leads and lazy book authors, but the savvy guys and gals who were supposed to proof-check this. That's who I blame.

No amount of macros, gifs, and Red Lantern blood vomit spewing pics can sum up how I feel about this.

I hear you. I've never felt so compelled to lash out at anything gaming related as much as this, which, knowing me, is quite a big deal. And yes, I've had my share of being less than pleased at things BioWare has done in their games and whatnot. But nothing came quite as close as this did. This is where I draw the line.

It hits specially closer to home when you write yourself, I guess. :P

There is also a Google docs page on all the myriad errors in this book. You won't believe your eyes. (For the record, if anyone is wondering whether or not they should purchase this book, the answer is a resounding no, save for potential noncanonical comedic value. Yes, it's technically classified as canon, but... no, just no.)

I really hope Bioware sees that Google Doc.  Lore in any franchise will never be perfectly consistent.  But these are just blatant and rookie-ish mistakes for a franchise that is not that large and has only been around for 4 or so years.

I hate writing, but I'm incredibly good at it according to everyone who's read my stories.

So I know I could've done better.

Mass Effect is already a large franchise though with very high popularity. There is no excuse for this Busch League editing.

Oh I agree.  Someone from the writers team should have checked Deception over for errors.  Either that or someone from the writers team should be fired.

Ditto, except with Hendel.

It seems less deliberate than excising Gillian's autism to fit the story, and more like sheer ignorance (because, hey, everyone likes asari bewbs amirite?).

I *hope* that Dietz just misunderstood her condition, or there was a miscommunication, or something. If he (or Bioware, even) deliberately chose to make her "get over it" because it was too much bother to write the story with an autistic protagonist - or if being autistic didn't fit the "kickass biotic revenge girl hunting TIM" story model, I'd be pretty scathing.

As it is, even the way it's described is... unfortunate.

There had been a time when the combination of anger and grief would have been her undoing. But she had grown since then and learned to use hate as fuel for her talent.

She had been a very unstable twelve year-old when they fi rst met.

They did.

Dietz's acknowledgement page thanks Casey Hudson and Mac Walters (the franchise's executive producer and lead writer), and also Tricia Pasternak for their help.

Casey has tweeted about checking Deception and reading through it prior to launch.

Dietz's email to a BSN member who was disappointed at the errors mentions two Bioware staff who acted as liasons and fact-checkers.
