I don't usually buy the books I just go over to the Mass Effect Wiki and read them . . . but this time I pre ordered the book and said what the hell . . . but after reading the preview , I wondered what happen to the editorial dept on this one . . . with most franchises that are not done in house a rep is appointed to oversee and make sure the story lines and time lines stay correct . . . did Bioware not do that?. . . anyway I will still let my pre order go thur and I may just up date this forum after I read the whole book. . .

The holo continued. “We want ten million credits,” the avatar said, “to be paid in the form of Beryllium slugs on Omega.

Apparently it's not just Gillian. Beryllium is some kind of universal currency. That makes sense, right? RIGHT?

I still think this book is like something an 8-year old would write for school. The way he references topics and staples of the universe is just so crass. If the rest of the book is like this it really will be piece of crap.

The belt containing six kilos of Beryllium slugs was dangling from her right hand

Now that is a very heavy poison belt.

And as far as I see beryllium's density (1,85 g/cm3), 6 kilos will occupy volume of 3,24 L. Rather volumnous belt.

And since the first instance of Beryllium mentions that the stupid things are worth 100 credits each, couldn't Gillian have just sold them? Then Dietz wouldn't have to keep writing Beryllium every damn time.

Here's what happened, the editing department dropped the kool-aid, ball, or anything else you want to put there. I've seen things that Mac and Hudson went over it, but I highly doubt that. The list of errors is staggering, to an extreme.

By the way, I know some of you ME Wikia guys are reading and following this thread right now.

To all of you- KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK. If you need assistance dealing with any issues on there, I'm sure you can grab some extra hands from here. You guys are going to have to deal with a lot of hell with the lore inconsistencies until Bioware disavows the novel, but we've got your back if you've got ours.

And we know you do. We're not letting it slide over here, and y'all aren't going to let it slide over there.

Lets work together, joint operation- Get the word out about the inconsistencies. Not just on the wikia but everywhere you can- Tweet it, facebook it, send personal messages here, do everything you can.

We HAVE to make them aware that this is a serious problem.

Good luck guys.

Just added the Beryllium thing to the doc. Not sure if it should stay, since it's not strictly a lore error (more like a common knowledge one). What do you say?

ok as much as i really hate to defend anything about this book in any way i reread ascension and

gillian's autusim was never stated as what type she had but at the end of ascension it is stated on page 294
Quoteing somewhat from the book about gillian
"the mere fact that she grumbled and complained rather than mutely obeying was further evedence of how much she had changed.."
also kahlee had commented to hendle on how much improvment gillian had shown , and shard her theory that the suit might make the girl feel psychologically safe and more confident. hendel however had offered a difrent theory ....
" I think she's just getting better because cerberus isent drugging her anymore ."
the though was so disturbing , but kahlee was suprised she hadnt come up with it on her own. it was doubtful gillians condition could be blamed solely on what ever chemical concoctions jiro had been feeding her but it was possible they had made her symtoms worse somehow that knowledge made what grayson had alowed them to do to his daughter even more monstrous...

while this dosent explain her growing out of it if can explain her condition improving quite a bit....

Oh my, how the hell did someones sexuality change in the space of two books? Jesus, BioWare, you basically re-writing characters by letting stuff like this make into the book.

How does the process of letting an outside source write a book based around your lore? Does Casey or Mac have to approve this?

I'd find it hard to grasp if that was actually the case.

How about the this making it a lore error:

Most of the galaxy’s commerce was carried out digitally, but such transactions could be tracked, so criminal enterprises were forced to use other forms of currency, Beryllium being one of them.

This is something that Dietz made up completely on his own. Every criminal in the game universe pays for things with credits. This is silly an not neccesary, It's like Dietz trying to insert more of his own depth because he couldn't be bothered to rererence all the depth that was already there.

Thank you for saving me $8.49.

I have the first three books.  They're not that great.  But, at least they're readable.  As you know, the writing in this book?  Is complete crap.  I could gloss over the errors.  But, not the appalling writing.  I have a BA in English.  My former professors?  Would give this effort, an F. (for FAIL)

(Do you know how painful it was to write that?  How any "professional" author can write that tripe and be satisfied with it, I'll never know.  It's just terrible.)

Improving a bit is one thing. Having it completely disappear is another.

Guess what Deception did.
