This is insane. Purely unacceptable. Would it have even been so hard to have one person checking his work?

Screw one, they needed many. MANY. Because this is ridiculous.

New news. Mass Effect: Deception has been outlawed by the UN preemptively on the basis of cruel and unusual punishment. Retailers who hype the book may be sued for "intellectual rape and mental trauma"

A second piece from incoming leaks, ME3 has had Kai Leng's role drastically reduced to a single boss fight with the final dialogue roughly:

Kai Leng: I've cornered you Shepard. You're on my turf now.
Shepard: It seems so. But if you think eating my cereal will stop me from defeating the reapers, you're sadly mistaken.
Kai Leng: ...
Shepard: Don't think the toothbrush trick will work either, I have counter measures.
Kai Leng: ...
Shepard: This is the part where you leave in shame.

If they had cereal and toothbrush references in ME3, I would forgive this book and pretend it never happened.

If they had cereal and toothbrush references in ME3, I would die.

I've been reading through this whole thread and it almost sounds worth buying this atrocity just to laugh at it.... But it also sounds incredibly painful to read haha
Can someone PM me the ending? I am seriously curious now

What he said, does anything really relevant happen in this book?

Dude it's only been 4 days and we're already at 121 pages. Not one person from Bioware has said anything. I'd feel better if they at least got on here and fed us a company line like "You're overreacting. Read the book. It's actually really good." I wonder if they're as flabbergasted about this as we are.

Rejoice, my fellow BSN'ers! The error doc now reaches the amazing achievement of holding 50 errors!

I knew it! Dietz is going for the most canon errors in a novel record! Right? ....Right?:crying:

Its seems like any one of us could have taken a single look through this thing and fixed 90% of the errors.

I almost want Kai Leng (and a nice Xbox 360, Kinect and Mass Effect 3 package) in my team now so I can go:

"James! Shotgun!"
"Kai! Toothbrush!"

"Liara! Singularity!"
"Kai! Cereal Murder!"

As far as the overarching mythos goes, nothing especially important happens in any page. Regarding the characters in the story, and many of the characters who have been introduced to us through Drew Karpyshyn's three novels prior to this one by Dietz, many of them are made into laughing stocks and a few of them don't make it out alive, dying ingloriously in a most profane and ridiculous fashion.

At least the first three books had a purpose.

Yes, they did.

And on my grave, I swear this: Never again shall I criticize some of the sloppier writing in Karpyshyn's "Revelation", an installment I've long since held as somewhat mediocre.

It's downright classic by comparison.

Yeah....I don't know how the industry works, but this certainly sounds like an editorial department error. The author should make sure to do research himself, but the editing team who knows about canon should be able to check up on this sort of stuff.

It would make me feel better because I still don't understand if that excerpt is really from the book.  I thought the book hadn't even been released yet? So isn't it at least possible that some of what we're talking about is a misrepresentation or a mistake?

Certain locations have broken the street date and a poster here reached out to someone with a physical copy of the book for confirmation.

It's real.

Nope. This is legitimately what they are releasing to the public. On purpose.

I'm more and more convinced that this was Karpyshyn's master plan all along to make us fall in love with and crave for his writing. Like Jeff said, compared to this... the first three books are art. In its purest form.

Or maybe they did, just haven't uploaded that to Youtube.
They'd probably flag it as inappropriate.

...though it would be somewhat bittersweet in a way to see a censored video about a guy pissing in a vase then using Deception's papers as toilet paper or something.

Maybe them love their asses to much to dishonored them by this?
