I'm more and more convinced that this was Karpyshyn's master plan all along to make us fall in love with and crave for his writing. Like Jeff said, compared to this... the first three books are art. In its purest form.

A fascinating hypothesis. I dig.

Additional update. Two store workers who had early access to the novels were recently admitted to a mental institution. Although doctors were unable to get much information out of them, they were found murmuring: "Doesn't make sense...Doesn't make sense...I'm confused...Mexican food? Why?"

They are not expected to make a recovery.

Well at least no one has used the book as toilet paper yet...

Eventually.

But if we do with the book what he did to the universe, we'll be no better than him:crying:

Dude it's only been 4 days and we're already at 121 pages. Not one person from Bioware has said anything. I'd feel better if they at least got on here and fed us a company line like "You're overreacting. Read the book. It's actually really good." I wonder if they're as flabbergasted about this as we are.

A company line helps no one. But I get you.

It would make me feel better because I still don't understand if that excerpt is really from the book.  I thought the book hadn't even been released yet? So isn't it at least possible that some of what we're talking about is a misrepresentation or a mistake?

Certain locations have broken the street date and a poster here reached out to someone with a physical copy of the book for confirmation.

It's real.

Wow.  That really makes me sad.  I don't understand why Bioware would put so little investment in something that's supposed to develop their IP.  This won't make me cancel buying the game but from now on I'll definitely wait before picking up the books.  Before this I would pick them up automatically because at least they would be entertaining reads.

This SO reminds me of The Last Airbender MOVIE. This book is as terrible as that film.

I actually tell myself that if I EVER get a copy of the film, I would break the disc. Now, it's the same for the novel, except I would rip the book.

From this point on I shall be calling him Wilson Dietz. Also my book is already on the way from Amazon. I'm not going to pay to ship it back, but thank god I had an Amazon gift card and that's what I bought with it. I just... I just don't understand...

Some suggestions from numerous people posting in this thread:

XX. Technology / terminology - in Deception character(s) use Bio-amps as implants - Implants are permanent ports where biotic amplifiers are inserted.

More butchery of quarian culture:
“Tell me something,” she said. “Do the quarians have a presence on Omega?”
The man gave her a curious look. “We’d be better off without them if you ask me. But, yes, their ships come and go on a regular basis. So they maintain a warehouse a couple of kilometers from here.”

didymos1120 wrote...

Just the notion that they have a trading outpost on Omega is silly. Then there's the idea that they're either sending ships way the hell away on a regular basis, or that the entire Migrant Fleet drops by Omega's general galactic neighborhood regularly.
There's just no way to square that with the way the Migrant Fleet actually operates.
True, from MEWiki

"Another means of resource income for the Fleet is from whatever system that the Migrant Fleet is passing through at the time; the quarians will strip-mine any promising planets for resources with well-trained efficiency. Any other races with industrial or corporate interests in that system will often offer a "gift" of ships, food, or other supplies to encourage the Fleet to leave. Usually, the Admiralty Board accepts the gift, as the Migrant Fleet is in no position to decline resources. In addition, some ships may linger in orbit over inhabited worlds to sell refreshments, supplies, and various trinkets to the locals. "
LPPrince wrote...

"Gillian could sense the power of the other woman's personality and was enveloped by the heady perfume she wore as they exchanged asari-style air kisses. The air crackled with electricity as the biotics came together and parted."

Hot.
"The air crackled with electricity as the biotics came together and parted." is interesting. Does biotics work that way? Is that possible?

Following info could be added in Beryllium entry:
izmirtheastarach wrote...

The belt containing six kilos of Beryllium slugs was dangling from her right hand

Now that is a very heavy poison belt.
And as far as I see beryllium's density (1,85 g/cm3), 6 kilos will occupy volume of 3,24 L. Rather volumnous belt.

AntiChri5 wrote...

Something i noticed that i haven't seen discussed yet:

When Kahlee and Anderson are going to see the council the security they go through (retina scan) is absolutely primitive compared to the security Shepard goes through just to get on the Citadel in ME2, which is a DNA scanner that can verify who he/she is through armour and despite being dead, all in a few seconds.

Apparently, security has recieved a serious downgrade since ME2.
This actually might be an error but could be disputed based on that novel may happen before ME2. I think timeline mess should be somehow solved before there can be real jay or nay about this?

Then, my nick is written as Slurps instead of Zlurps in the error document. I don't usually care but I actually feel a bit awkward about that because nature of document.

The books and comics had a purpose now and were all sitting around a table. Then Deception walks in, upends the table, smacks them all in the face, steals everything of value, no wait everything, then leaves. The rest just look at each other and say "what just happened?". So they continue walking and as they look around, they see the same thing everywhere. "Man, this guy is nuts and going to town". Then everyone sees him on top of the Tower and he's laughing like a maniac, and then yells "here's the new face of all of you". Just before he collapses the Tower.

That's about what happened with Deception. It takes the entire universe and turns it on its head. This "novel" is a catastrophe and if BioWare doesn’t do something about it quickly, a.k.a., declaring it non-canon, or ordering Dietz to fix his work, then we will never let them hear the end of it. After all, BioWare does state a lot that they enjoy the interaction they have with their fans and take pride in the fact they do so. So how about listening.

I almost want Kai Leng (and a nice Xbox 360, Kinect and Mass Effect 3 package) in my team now so I can go:

"James! Shotgun!"
"Kai! Toothbrush!"

"Liara! Singularity!"
"Kai! Cereal Murder!"

It failed to burn properly so it would probably fail as toilet paper too. (with this thing any sort of fail seems to be possible).
