It'll be interesting to see if they open up the news thread for the release of Deception at this point though since it'll ultimately get bashed on its first response.

No response. It's just a book in a major game series. It's not going to matter that much in the long run I would assume.

Except that the three previous books had impact on the games' events.

I don't think the cereal thing is necessarily that bad.

The way it's written is completely laughable, but I kind of like the concept. Although it does feel like it belongs somewhere else, like a Tarantino movie.

A great author could have made that work, sadly it seems Dietz isn't.

The way Dietz wrote it made it sound like Kai Leng was doing it for cheap thrills, which doesn't quite fit with the characterization seen in Retribution.

Didn't read that part yet but does it specifically say he does it for cheap thrills?

He mentions doing it for the adrenaline rush.

It's not the cereal that's the problem (although...really? he ate his cereal? that's his thing? dear lord), how about the part where the one openly gay character in the frachise is retconned straight and apparently people can just "get over" autism? How offensive can you get?
Apologies for grammar, posting from phone.

I have been wondering about this as well. Honestly, I don't think they will, since it's pretty obvious what the reaction would be from the people. Might as well just leave this thread to be the official Deception announcement, discussion and complaints thread.

WOO I got the cereal sweats.  I agree doesn't sound like the Kai Leng I knew from Retribution. Even though (I can't remember and welcome to correct me but) he wasn't mentioned constantly through out the book.

Kai Leng seemed like the assassin type. Doesn't really like crowds or like to really interact with people.

I keep on missing the part were people say he is gay. I only recall from the Ascension that it was suspected from Kahlee and his coworkers and left it at that.

Oh, trust me when I say that NONE of the events in Deception are ever referenced, discussed, or impact things in ME3. <_<

*ME3 SPOILER* Only one other character from the books series makes her way into the ME3 along with Kai Leng and that's Kahlee Sanders.

I guess the only part that did affect the games was in ME2

ENCORE:

But Leng was something of an adrenaline junkie and enjoyed being where he was. That’s why he checked the cupboards, located some cereal, and had breakfast before putting everything back exactly as it had been. It was his apartment now, meaning a place where everything that happened would be known to him, and to Cerberus. The thought pleased him and Leng was still smiling as he left.

There was nothing suspected about it:

"I'm starting to think you two are more than just friends,” Jiro said darkly.

Kahlee actually laughed out loud. She saw Jiro stiffen, and he turned away from her.

“I’m sorry,” she said, wrapping a comforting arm around his shoulder. “I didn’t mean to laugh. But trust me, I’m not Hendel’s type. You might be, though.”

That doesn't prove anything to me. I take that as Kahlee's opinion

And he and Kahlee were fairly close in that book, it would make sense that she knew his orientation.

So here's my question, there are three other Mass Effect Novels, all written by the same person, why the hell was it farmed out and to a guy known for writing Halo: The Flood no less?

Just to play Devil's Advocate for a moment, there may have been some circumstances that would explain this.

The book may have been rushed, and Dietz may not have had time to properly check and correct mistakes.

I think it was clearly rushed to come out before ME3, since the marketing people figure that it would help promote the game regardless of the book's quality.

I'd hazard a guess that the rushed release is likely the reason that Dietz rather than Karpyshyn wrote it in the first place and that the rushed timescale almost certainly contributed to the numerous errors and generally poor quality.

So in fairness to Dietz, I think its safe to assume that he probably didn't have as much time to research and then write the piece as he would have wanted.

[SPOILERS] That said he should have had the sense not to kill off any major characters in a series that wasn't his. [END SPOILERS]

How do you confirm a spoiler for the game? We can be pretty sure, because spoilers have been dissemenated. But no one has played the final build, so no one can be 100% sure.
