That's funny I'm Dietz and I think this sucks too. Come on you directly spoke to him.
Childish style of writing and proud on his book should indicates multiple personality. Maybe you are Dietz just don't know it.

So here's my question, there are three other Mass Effect Novels, all written by the same person, why the hell was it farmed out and to a guy known for writing Halo: The Flood no less?

Ah, you see this is what happens when you have three major releases within the span of a year, you got no one left to do the novels and we end up with giant trolls against the community.Yuoaman wrote...

It was because Drew Karpyshyn is now on the Star Wars: TOR team.
I have gone though the leaked scripts fairly extensively... Yes, I can say that that particular spoiler is 99% confirmed (unless Bioware rewrote that entire section of the game, but I highly doubt that, given the ending of Deception)izmirtheastarach wrote...

How do you confirm a spoiler for the game? We can be pretty sure, because spoilers have been dissemenated. But no one has played the final build, so no one can be 100% sure.

I personally really doubt it - that would mean a fair deal of finished dialogue by multiple characters getting dropped, if that was the case - but I suppose we'll find out for sure once the game arrives.izmirtheastarach wrote...

Yeah, that's all I was saying. Pretty close to confirmed, but since we don't have the game, you can't be completely sure. Whether they rewrote it due to that leak or not, sometimes things don't make it into the final build.

LOOOOOOOOOOOLLeng explained. “The mainstream media won't run our ads so we're using guerilla marketing techniques to put the message out. This includes wall crawls in places like Hu-Town, pirate sites on the extranet, and a network of flesh and blood storytellers, all trained to tell tales about the rise of humanity. Our polling shows that even though members of the other races tend to have negative impressions of Cerberus, most humans feel we are a positive influence."

It wasn’t clear how they had been summoned, but suddenly two additional asari entered the room, and they were dressed in matching suits of light armor. And even though nothing had been said Gillian sensed that they were biotics. Powerful biotics.

Just to play Devil's Advocate for a moment, there may have been some circumstances that would explain this.
The book may have been rushed, and Dietz may not have had time to properly check and correct mistakes.
I think it was clearly rushed to come out before ME3, since the marketing people figure that it would help promote the game regardless of the book's quality.
I'd hazard a guess that the rushed release is likely the reason that Dietz rather than Karpyshyn wrote it in the first place and that the rushed timescale almost certainly contributed to the numerous errors and generally poor quality.
So in fairness to Dietz, I think its safe to assume that he probably didn't have as much time to research and then write the piece as he would have wanted.
[SPOILERS] That said he should have had the sense not to kill off any major characters in a series that wasn't his. [END SPOILERS]

I hate to point out the obvious (well, no, not really), but aren't all Asari capable of biotics in the first place?izmirtheastarach wrote...

Oh, that doesn't mean anything - he could've gotten those cybernetic upgrades anytime after Retribution (and judging from the response on this thread, I think a lot of us are gonna be thinking that, since we're wiping all trace of Deception from our mind's perception of "ME canon").Sherned wrote...
Anyway, it definitely sounds like Deception will be canon; there was a reference near the end that Kai Leng will be getting cybernetic upgrades, and that's exactly what happened to him in Mass Effect 3 if the art book is anything to go by.

Which proves my point - Gillian seeing two Asari and assuming them to be biotics is like the Mass Effect equivalent of "No sh*t, Sherlock!".Icinix wrote...

All Asari are talented natural biotics.
