And just my last comment on Hendel's sexual orientation. The trivia part of the Wiki makes it kind of vague for me. But hey I guess believe you guys.

So here's my question, there are three other Mass Effect Novels, all written by the same person, why the hell was it farmed out and to a guy known for writing Halo: The Flood no less?

It was because Drew Karpyshyn is now on the Star Wars: TOR team.

Can anyone turn this 5sec 1.2 mbvideo of the book burning into a looping gif? I apparently lost the program I used to do this during a clean installation of windows. I want it to join this gif I made for the DA Facebook game if it looks good.

Ah, you see this is what happens when you have three major releases within the span of a year, you got no one left to do the novels and we end up with giant trolls against the community.

@AVPen: That spoiler is confirmed?

How do you confirm a spoiler for the game? We can be pretty sure, because spoilers have been dissemenated. But no one has played the final build, so no one can be 100% sure.

I have gone though the leaked scripts fairly extensively... Yes, I can say that that particular spoiler is 99% confirmed (unless Bioware rewrote that entire section of the game, but I highly doubt that, given the ending of Deception)

Yeah, that's all I was saying. Pretty close to confirmed, but since we don't have the game, you can't be completely sure. Whether they rewrote it due to that leak or not, sometimes things don't make it into the final build.

I personally really doubt it -  that would mean a fair deal of finished dialogue by multiple characters getting dropped, if that was the case - but I suppose we'll find out for sure once the game arrives.

Leng explained. “The mainstream media won't run our ads so we're using guerilla marketing techniques to put the message out. This includes wall crawls in places like Hu-Town, pirate sites on the extranet, and a network of flesh and blood storytellers, all trained to tell tales about the rise of humanity. Our polling shows that even though members of the other races tend to have negative impressions of Cerberus, most humans feel we are a positive influence."

LOOOOOOOOOOOL

This actually made me angry. There's misinterpretation of the lore, and then there's... whatever the hell this is.

Yes, Cerberus is now a public advocacy group. The Illusive man is quite the pollster, as well.

Was it really that hard to write: "She could tell the two asari where powerful biotics."? It would avoid yet another senseless error! But I guess that would require far too much research and effort... *sigh*

It wasn’t clear how they had been summoned, but suddenly two additional asari entered the room, and they were dressed in matching suits of light armor. And even though nothing had been said Gillian sensed that they were biotics. Powerful biotics.

I wonder what kind of light armor they were wearing.

Oh, BTW, Aria should have recognized Kai Leng. She met him in Retribution. He set up the deal between her and TIM. The only thing she didn't know was his name.

Anyway, it definitely sounds like Deception will be canon; there was a reference near the end that Kai Leng will be getting cybernetic upgrades, and that's exactly what happened to him in Mass Effect 3 if the art book is anything to go by.

Thing is, the events of ME3 make it clear that Drew's series and characters are essentially at an end. Because if certain conditions aren't met when *EVENT* happens at *PLACE*, *CHARACTER* can die.

It's like... Bioware just gave Dietz a mandate to completely destroy all the storylines and characters Karpyshyn had started. With ME3, that's completed - potential deaths mean no future use of certain characters.

Nobody can write books post-ME3 with any of the existing novel characters, except possibly Anderson. That's disgraceful. The way it was handled in Deception was awful.

Just to play Devil's Advocate for a moment, there may have been some circumstances that would explain this.

The book may have been rushed, and Dietz may not have had time to properly check and correct mistakes.

I think it was clearly rushed to come out before ME3, since the marketing people figure that it would help promote the game regardless of the book's quality.

I'd hazard a guess that the rushed release is likely the reason that Dietz rather than Karpyshyn wrote it in the first place and that the rushed timescale almost certainly contributed to the numerous errors and generally poor quality.

So in fairness to Dietz, I think its safe to assume that he probably didn't have as much time to research and then write the piece as he would have wanted.

[SPOILERS] That said he should have had the sense not to kill off any major characters in a series that wasn't his. [END SPOILERS]

Might backfire because of the awfulness of this novel, some people have already canceled their ME3 pre orders because of how much this book stinks...

I can say tough, what ive seen from the leaks ME3 is a solid game and this novels crappiness doesnt touch the experience in anyway. Forget it exists, I try myself...

Still somebody has to answer for this novel's state and my eyes are fixed at Bioware right now. Apology maybe, too much to ask?

I hate to point out the obvious (well, no, not really), but aren't all Asari capable of biotics in the first place? :?

Oh, that doesn't mean anything - he could've gotten those cybernetic upgrades anytime after Retribution (and judging from the response on this thread, I think a lot of us are gonna be thinking that, since we're wiping all trace of Deception from our mind's perception of "ME canon").

All Asari are talented natural biotics.

Hey AVPen,   that's a really neat trick with the spoiler text color.   That had never occured to me, muchos gracias.

Now I can write, horrible, horrible things without anyone knowing.

Which proves my point - Gillian seeing two Asari and assuming them to be biotics is like the Mass Effect equivalent of "No sh*t, Sherlock!". :pinched:
