The book is out in around 2 hours where I live. Does that mean that I'll be able to talk about everything in two hours?

Thing is, loads of things could be explained but Dietz doesn't bother.  E.g. Maybe Kai Leng managed to get onto Kar'shann through very special arrangement and that particular part of the planet is a highly regulated area and the only area where foreigners are allowed to go - but there's no exposition or anything like that.

We've said this before. He makes one reference, calling her an "unstable twelve year old". Then never mentions it again. If he had taken just a moment to explain it, he'd get a lot of credit for it. But he doesn't. He just pretends it never existed.


And that offended a hell of a lot of people.

Dietz explains by telling and not showing.

It hurts the novel SO MUCH.

People are being overly sensitive. There's nothing to be offended about. It's a character in a badly written sci-fi novel, calm down.

I think at best - Gillian could end up like this person.  So yeah, as an adult she might be able to communicate with others pretty well because she's learnt how to, but she's probably still going to think primarily as an autistic person.  So any part of Deception that takes place from her POV should still be written in a similar way to what was there in Retribution.


Just to add to this (I'd edit, but it'll get buried), this person is probably a better example to illustrate how an autistic person might think, but also show how they can communicate in a way that is more usual to us.  There's also Daniel Tammet (utter legend).
