You know, I'd love to know how Dietz was selected. What did they look for on all the resumes when deciding who to pass the book off to? What made Dietz the final choice compared to the others? Did they look at reviews of his previous books? I can't imagine the reviews were all that stellar from what others have said here about them.
I know, I know. They'll never tell.
But they should.
That would be a cool detail.

Its still mine boggling how something can be screwed up so badly. Was he trying? I mean really.
Just imagine the surprise at BioWare when they received the first draft of Deception.
So surprised... and utterly appalled... that they let it be published.
Dietz actually wrote back to someone asking about Deception that BioWare suggested numerous changes.

Pinning the blame elsewhere?

I know plenty of other qualified authors even if Drew was still busy. I don't think this really matters anymore if who was capable I now believe authors have to be watched constantly because it seemed like Bioware was phasing in and out when watching Dietz.

I have a theory on how it got past bioware...but I can't post it yet due to spoilers. I have a nagging feeling that I'm right, unfortunately.
If thar be spoilers, wait another 6 or so hours.
If its an ME3 spoiler, just don't say it. Ever.

I would've pulled Drew out of SWTOR and brought him back here.
Hell, SWTOR is tanking anyway.
Lets not let the ME novels go down with it.

I would've begged Drew to come back too. Star Wars is cool and all but its not as rich compared to Mass Effect.

That he... blatantly chose to ignore, presumably? Or... did Bioware gingerly suggest and then back down because they didn't think anyone would notice in the end? I bet there were hissy fits and tantrums.

I don't know what to think. I don't know if I would be even surprised anymore if someone from BioWare made a post like "Uh... there is some sort of error here. We do not know who this person is and the novel... Nobody actually remembers who authorised this. Umm... We very busy at the time preparing ME3 to ship so we get back to you very soon about this."

Hence why I didn't post it yet
....I also lurk for extremely long periods of time and then post out of absolutely nowhere, so if said theory never gets posted, well....yeah.

We've got more posts in here in a fraction of the time than some very well known stickied threads.
We rock. We're really making this happen.

If think of possibility that first draft was what we got, well that would explain a lot. Then, why in the world would BioWare shoot themself to the foot by letting this to be published without checking. I really don't know what to think.

Which means there were actually even more errors at one point. I'm still going with the theory that after a while, they just gave up the effort as futile.

More importantly to me which has been stated many times. How in God's green Earth did this get past Bioware!
I really do hope someone says something.
Maybe Bioware were all too busy with ME3 and didnt get round to reading through it. Just assumed it would be ok
I mean Casey Hudson knows the universe pretty well, Im sure he would have picked up on some of this stuff if he had actually read it.

Seems the most likely thing he'll do. Don't know what other reason he could come up with to explain this travesty.

But money could've been gained, so rather than cancel, they went through with it?
Laaame if so.
