What's the cereal joke about? Not gonna' read it. What does he do?

He enters into Anderson's apartment and starts eating his cereals to mark his territory. And it's not a comic relief, it's all very seriously written (which makes it even funnier)

WHAT?!

Oh, god... Pack up your expectations, people. Looks like Leng has experienced some "character development".

Tell me I'm overreacting.

You're not. I'm not sure what is Leng is now to me. Such potential wasted because a writer thinks he can make a good novel without knowing the lore. And because the editors at Bioware didn't do their work.

Dunno who Marisa is, but I thought it was implied in earlier novels that Hendel was homosexual.

Dietz didn't forgot to mention it:

But Hendel could think about the discovery and he did. You may be wearing two guns, the ex- security offi cer thought to himself, and you may have a girlfriend. But you’re still a pimply faced troublemaker and your ass is mine. Have a nice day, Nick. I’ll be back.

And like didy about the end I say this book never happened and i'm dead serious.

I think that the novel is one of the most successful trolls I have experienced. Bravo Mr. Dietz, Bravo.

Deception is like The Room of books. I have never ever read such garbage. Even the codex entries in ME were more engaging to read.  But I really do want to know the ending now.

I gave up after 25 pages.

I somewhat liked Retribution, not that it was great either, but the language and writing in this is just beyond awful. Why Dietz was ever given permission to publish this is beyond me. BioWare, what the hell? Or should I say Casey? Are you guys consciously trying to destroy your own franchise?

Dietz makes Dean R. Koontz look like Edgar Allan Poe.

And I thought someone came up with that joke.

My, such imagination, Mr Dietz.

I can vouch for that. I write a little now and then and, in all my creative outlets, I would never even think of writing such a thing, so I guess Dietz deserves some credit for his... originality.

Even if it is completely absurd.

The “reave,” as biotics referred to it, was used to target an opponent’s nervous system. And because the guards were standing so close to each other, Gillian was able to hit all three at once.

Wait, I get it! This is a walkthrough for a Mass Effect game that hasn't come out yet! Pity, they don't show what upgrades Gillian had in Reave. Given the wording, it must be Area Reave!

And now for something completely different!

Mr. Dietz
"You're here! I knew a real book reviewer would blow in just fine. Sorry if the angry mob scruffed your pads. I'll write you something nice when we get back to the BioWare base. I've got to have some royalties coming."

MassEffect BookFan
"What about the fans of the material, Acting Writer?"

Mr. Dietz
"Total loss. The book turned them wild. They propped me up here in some kind of ritual behaviour. Waiting for someone to deem it decent has been hell."

MassEffect BookFan
"That's the best you can do?"

Mr. Dietz
"You let all your people talk back like that... uh... who are you exactly?"

MassEffect Franchise
"My name is MassEffect Franchise of the BioWare. I believe you are acquainted with Mr. MassEffect BookFan?"

Mr. Dietz
"MassEffect? BookFan? No, not MassEffect BookFan."

MassEffect BookFan
"Why not me? Would 1 year of writting do any worse to any book in the galaxy?"

Mr. Dietz
"You have to understand. This isn't Mass Effect. The realities of the writting world, they change you. I wasn't ready for that. I made sure the other books were done right before I came and completely ruined everything. I had hoped to leave it at that."

MassEffect Franchise
"I'm not unreasonable, Mr. Dietz. But this? What happened?"

MassEffect BookFan
"Goddamnit, why did you do this to the Mass Effect fans?"

Mr. Dietz
"There was resistance to the book. Criticism. We had to press the BioWare Editors to keep order. And things settled down. As the drafts set in, we made sure the Editors were comfortable. Some even seemed happier. Ignorance is bliss, right? And they were grateful when I came in and said I didn't have anything else new for them to read, like an instinct. Making random stuff up was... easy. At first. Months in, the writing lowered quality control. They got lazy. Exposition, character development -- they couldn't understand. I had to establish dominance. After a while the writing just seemed... normal."

MassEffect BookFan
"That's it? You wrote a book and played the puppet master? For one year in a writing rampage?"

Mr. Dietz
"I can't point to where it all went wrong. But when the book was finished, leaving it didn't seem like a good idea."

MassEffect Franchise
"There's no way I'm letting this slide Dietz. A price will be paid."

MassEffect BookFan
"How much? What kind of math can balance these writing fallacies? His book isn't even worth of laying eyes on the index. I don't know what you are. Because you're not any book I can remember."

MassEffect Franchise
"Maybe we go arrange for a decent Mass Effect game for the fans while the acting writer deals with the hole we punched through his book."

Mr. Dietz
"Now wait. I'm supposed to be backed up here. The rabid ones, you don't know what they'll do to me."

MassEffect BookFan
"These characters were different, MassEffect Franchise. Good characters. I wish I'd read about them."

Mr. Dietz
"BookFan?"

MassEffect BookFan
"Your book was better non-existing. As far as I'm concerned, it still is."

Mr. Dietz
"BookFan!"

...

I just ruined Jacob's Loyalty mission for me... Forever.

As much as I am not qualified to comment on the quality of the writing, I do wonder what happened to Gillian's autism. Sure it was becoming less of a problem in Retribution but from what I read in Deception, it sounds like she never had it.

Yeah, I wondered about that too:

"No results found in this book for autistic."

OK, thanks Google.

Don'tch'all know? Gillian used to not so good with the words, is all, used to be a-fumble a-with-a talking, used to speak-a with-a-teetha, but now she be good-okay-great-a with-a talking.

Just a teenage girl-a problems, see, just a normal girl, but now she-sa so smart-a, they call her Gillian Anderson because she smart-a a-like-a the lady in "The X-Files" and Admiral Anderson-a like-a the father to her, you see, I make-a the funny, it is like Sun Tzu always say, "eat the cereal of your enemy and he will know fear, and better to be feared than loved, and I totally wrote this down in 1766 in Tampa, Florida."

Me with my so-witty cultural references, yes, nevermind-a the errors, go to sleep now, go to sleep, yes.

As best I can tell no.  It definitely could be why Nick's 18, so I guess Gillian just got dragged along for the stupid ride.

Wow, I am seriously glad I planned to never read this.

Can someone PM me actual quotes from the scene where Kai Leng eats Anderson's cereal, though? I think you're allowed to post quotes and exerpts. I just *really* want to see how terribly it is actually written.
