Hopefully, ME3 won't have a scene where Shepard returns from the Normandy, only to find a empty cereal bowl on his table.

You just had to remind me of this!

That would be hilarious.

It'd be right before Leng breaks and jumps from the skylight in his room, making absolutely no sense whatsoever, throwing sharpened spoons at Shep all the time.

I'd like to know how we could get, say, Kotaku to do a "How not to write a videogame tie-in novel" piece. They've covered adverse fan reaction to various things before.

Maybe try writing one of their staff? I'm not used to doing such things, but just linking this thread should do the job. :D

Honestly though. You know some of them have to be absolutely LIVID.

Why do I get the feeling Drew Karpyshyn is flying to Dietz's home in Washington with a sharpened toothbrush hidden on his person?

Lol, I'm picturing him barging into the editors office an then throwing the book at him an going "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!"

*Karypyshyn Krogan headbutts them*

"YOU...YOU DARE!?"

It's a nice thought, and I'm sure Karpyshyn has a soft spot for ME in his heart, but he is just as motivated by money as Dietz, if much more talented.  He jumped at the opportunity to work with SWTOR, because it's an established IP that allows him to write tie-in novels for an audience that is orders of magnitude larger than that of ME.  Also, being a successful sci-fi author he no doubt is aware of Dietz's reputation, and knew what the result of handing the reigns over to him would be.

Drew knew what Dietz would do to the novels, and didn't care enough to sacrifice making more money to do it himself, or recommend someone else.

About part of item #32 under Lore Errors -

Dark Star Lounge being on the 28th floor of a skyscraper might be correct. I recall loading screens in ME2 showing your shuttle flying from or to a specific skyscraper when traveling between locations on the Citadel. Also, the part of Zakera Ward we walk around in, which includes the Dark Star Lounge, could be said to fit in a single building.

I know I could probably have let this go, but I'm a know-it-all. It would torment my very soul if I kept quiet.:P

I wrote that one up.  I was trying to find a good way to distinguish between  Zakera Ward and just some random building, which is how Dietz makes it sound.

Getting Kotaku, IGN, and other sites in on this would be magical.

Oh, he'd use the spoons after running out of toothbrushes. Anyway, sleep beckons. Charge on everyone. Hope to see this thread still up and active tomorrow.

EDIT

Get the Escapist in on it too.

Well, I hope whatever meetings Bioware holds over this mess get completed soundly with a wonderful solution.

That doesn't include BS'ing us.

Hell, that's how WE are(although we're being subtle about it, generally speaking).

They're being professional about it, but you bet your ass they're "mad, brah".

I'm mad, brah.

I'm real mad, brah.

On page 120 right now.

Yes there are lore errors that we are all aware of, but I still think it stands up so far as another mass effect story. Continuity is far less important to me in this medium than it would be in ME3 itself.

Okay, someone help me out here.

I read the 55 pages in the first post, and they hurt.

They HURT.

So many inconsistencies, things that didn't make sense, shoddy writing style, etc etc.

WHAT. THE HELL.

Its like I WANT to read more of it, because its funny how much it HURTS to read it.

I'm not the only one who wants Drew back on the ME projects, right?

We've got to dig up the pearls some of us wrote in this thread. Me, JeffZero, some of didy's comments, man we had absolutely stellar stuff in here. I guess that's what it takes to see just how creative this community is!

You know, reading this thread I honestly couldn't believe the book could be that bad. So I started reading the excerpt. I'll post my thoughts to this post as I read. I haven't read through the error list so keep that in mind.

- I'm literally less than a page in and I already hate this writing style.

- How the hell did a human get to the Batarian homeworld, let alone be allowed into an auction.

- "DNA specific Bio-Weapon". What? Why would the Batarians just allow something like that to be auctioned off?

- How do you use mass relays to find the Citiadel and then discover mass effect technology. Stupid!

- It mentions the attack on the Citadel having occured two years prior, so this all must be occuring within months of the ending of Mass Effect 2.

- A volus saying "Earth people" just bugs me.

- Council Chamber now comes with audience seating? And the people boo? Even Canadian Parliament runs better than this

- A Quarian Consulate is opened. Good development.

- Who the hell is this nameless "Human Council Member"? I would've thought Udina would've taken the spot.

... Wait a goddamn minute! He was a Udina was Councillor in ME: Inquisition. Did Dietz not read any of the other works based around this series before he wrote this?

- And now the Council "can't afford to dismiss the possibility of Reaper involvement"? That's what they've been doing up to this point!

- NICK IS EIGHTEEN? HE WAS TWELVE TWO GODDAMN YEARS AGO! NO! NOOOO! I WILL NOT EXCEPT AN ERROR THIS GLARING!

- The L1, L2, L3 system applies to the amps put in the biotic, not the biotic themselves.

- So Nick has wandered off somewhere. He's not at "The Cube" so I guess that's just cause to go interrogate his friends? What sparked that decision?

- "Our credibility is at stake". What? Why is that so important to you? A terrorist organization is already pretty low on the credibility scale.

- So within two years the Tantalus drive core is now standard issue? I'll let this slide, but considering it was an experimental core developed in a joint Human/Turian effort, I doubt a Batarian vessel would have one within two years.

- The Quarians just give Gillian a ship.... okay.

- Nick has left to join a biotic supremacy group... okay.

And the excerpt draws to a close. All I can say is... Wow. This book is baaaaad. I'm a little dissapointed that this is the result of over a year-long wait.
