Just please tell me that whoever wrote this book has no influence or impact on ME3 in anyway.

On page 120 right now.

Yes there are lore errors that we are all aware of, but I still think it stands up so far as another mass effect story. Continuity is far less important to me in this medium than it would be in ME3 itself.

If it contradicts what's been established in Mass Effect I don't think it stands up as a Mass Effect novel.

Agreed. And it DOESN'T stand up. I imagine Bioware is debating how to handle this right now.

William C. Dietz has NOTHING to do with ME3.

And he'll likely have nothing to do with anything Bioware related FOREVER after this.

Dismissing quality simply because its not a game is exactly the kind of attitude that got Star Wars canon totaly FUBAR.

This novel really gets on my nerves. I really do care about the Mass Effect universe and lore. Amazing to see so many of us who are ticked off with Dietz showing nowhere near enough respect to the Mass Effect universe.

The best solution is for Bioware to speak up, admit the mistakes, and remove Deception from canon. If they do this we can all move on and look forward to ME3

Found out earlier from a friend this afternoon that they actually received his copy of Deception early in the mail today, so he let me borrow it and I've been flipping through it this evening.

What the f***ing sh*t, man.... good lord, this wretched sh*t is even worse than I thought.... <_<

Bioware Social Network?

AHHHH!!! For some reason I thought it has something to do with ISBN number, now I just feel silly for asking. :D

Someone should put that on wikipedia.

Oh no, books are canon. But if facts contradict each other, the primary source material supercedes sides projects, and in the Mass Effect Franchise, the video games supercede everything else.

If most characters just feel off, there might just be something wrong (I think of myself as forgiving in this aspect, and this thread has kinda made me confident that I cannot be the only soul on the planet that feels this way). I do not really know about Star Wars canon, tho. However, quality comes in very different forms.

I'm trying to imagine how that coversation among the batarian slavers must have gone...

Batarian captain: Alright boys, now that we managed to fit this highly advanced Tantalus drive core to our old ship, you know what we should totally do?
Batarian: What's that, boss?
Captain: Why, raid Palaven, of course.
Batarian: You mean, attack the homeworld of the species with the largest fleet in Citadel space whose M.O. when coming under attack is to completely obliterate their enemy so they'll never even think of attacking again? The species where everyone over 15 is a trained soldier? That Palaven?
Captain: YES.
Batarian: Why that sounds like a brilliant idea, sir! There is no possible way it could end poorly for us at all. And by us I mean batarians in general.
Captain: I know!
Batarian: Cause, y'know, it's not like they're also a Council species or anything.
Captain: Right? It's perfect. Set course: Palaven.

And thus ended the glorious days of the Batarian Hegemony.

This deserves a quoting.

Well I tried to write something witty, sarcastic... well whatever. I read the list of errors and I can't. I have not much to say...

I just see no reasons why novel have seen light. I mean, no supervision? Nobody cared? A half decent writer would double-check everything when writing in an already established setting... and then someone should double-check if he double checked it. What happened here?

Let me try again:

Ascension takes place two months after ME1. This is explicitely stated in the book.

and according to Deception:

Deception takes place two years after ME1.

Deception also takes place 6 years after Ascension

This is the irreconcilable problem.

Clearly, this means that Deception happens in an alternate timeline -- ergo not canon? :)

Bioware seems to care now because it seems that there might be a company wide- SHUT UP -notice where they aren't allowed to talk about it yet until the higher ups decide what to do with this disaster.

Its McDStories all over again.
