Well I tried to write something witty, sarcastic... well whatever. I read the list of errors and I can't. I have not much to say...

I just see no reasons why novel have seen light. I mean, no supervision? Nobody cared? A half decent writer would double-check everything when writing in an already established setting... and then someone should double-check if he double checked it. What happened here?

That's what we're all trying to find out.

That and disavowing this from lore. But at this point, just knowing what happened would be a blessing.

Edit: And yet again, ladies and gentlemen! :D

Let me try again:

Ascension takes place two months after ME1. This is explicitely stated in the book.

and according to Deception:

Deception takes place two years after ME1.

Deception also takes place 6 years after Ascension

This is the irreconcilable problem.

Clearly, this means that Deception happens in an alternate timeline -- ergo not canon? :)

It better be made not canon- Disavowed from the lore. That would give me what I've wanted this entire time.

WE NEED IT.

Just as much as Bioware does.

On page 120 right now.

Yes there are lore errors that we are all aware of, but I still think it stands up so far as another mass effect story. Continuity is far less important to me in this medium than it would be in ME3 itself.

If it contradicts what's been established in Mass Effect I don't think it stands up as a Mass Effect novel.

Agreed. And it DOESN'T stand up. I imagine Bioware is debating how to handle this right now.

Dismissing quality simply because its not a game is exactly the kind of attitude that got Star Wars canon totaly FUBAR.

Oh no, books are canon. But if facts contradict each other, the primary source material supercedes sides projects, and in the Mass Effect Franchise, the video games supercede everything else.

Of course...but Bioware has made it very clear...they personally hold the books in a very close second place by simply MENTIONING their exsistence in these games... But our attitude here proves that we think ALL sources are just as importent. That we are not about to let this lore go FUBAR while we draw breath.

We will not go quietly into the night.
We will vanish without a fight.
We're going to live on, we're going to survive.

Ehh, books aren't THAT close to the games. The games are on their own level. Everything else, books, comics, etc etc are on a level of their own below it.

Thing is, they're still canon, and there's too many screw ups for this to actually be canon, so we(and Bioware) have a problem.

What a lovely, well-written, subtly crafted work of literature. I'm genuinely intellectually invigorated by reading this. It speaks to my soul, my mind, my veryyouknowwhatscrewit, I can't even finish this sentence with a straight face.

Seriously, Bioware has a huge fan base; all they had to do was go on Fanfiction and choose some decent Mass Effect writers--many of whom are really talented, and almost all of whom respect the source material--and they stuck us with THIS GUY?

Jeeeeeezus...

I told my stepbrother about the new developments in this whole operation I've got going on and he laughed like hell when he heard how many pages we've got now.

Laughed harder at Mr. Adrenaline Junkie Cereal Killer.

I thought it was a joke at first, as I'm sure the other noobz did at first. Then I kept reading...and reading...and reading...

I lost it at N6.

Strip out all the lore inconsistencies out of the thing and you've still got one terribly written book on your hands.

Oh, geezus... so now not only can Gillian form a Singularity (which, ok fine, that was previously established in Ascension), but now Hendel and Nick can TOO?!?

Btw, props for responding to virtually every single person who posts in this thread. I salute your avatar.

And has anyone attempted to ask Dietz about this? I checked his FB page, and there was only one question about Deception...which he ignored. I expected people to start flooding his wall with posts by now.

Also, could you PM me the ending really quick? I have a sinking feeling I know what's going to happen, but I just need to put the final nail in this travesty of a novel.

Gotta be honest, Dietz doesn't have an appetizing writing style.

Isn't mature enough for me. Too childish.

Even the singularities explode people's faces.

Oh, and Gillian can Charge without a L5n implant.

Cause you know, she's a Level 3 Biotic.

Wow, I completely missed the fact that Gillian's jewel *couldn't* contain a holo of her father being Reaperised, if her father was the one that gave it to her.

Not to mention that she was ON A QUARIAN SHIP DURING RETRIBUTION.

WTF.

That is unbelievably nonsensical.

It's literally childish (as in "sh*t kids call each other on the playground during recess") at times:

Hendel had been watching long enough to recognize many of the employees and give them nicknames
like “Stick Figure,” “Four Eyes,” and “Fatso.”
