.... there's actually a cyborg news reporter on Omega with a f***ing camera implanted in his eye, like something straight out of Masamune Shirow's "Ghost in the Shell".
EDIT: It even has a freaking zoom lens on the damn thing....

Did you read even one page of the novel? A point that gets a bit lost in all this tearing apart of lore inconsistencies is that even if mr. Dietz fixed ALL of them, hell, even if they NEVER EXISTED at all - this would still be one horribly written piece of crap. Honestly, as a non-native English speaker, this novel's... simplicity (to put it lightly) hurts my brain. I could not come up with some of the sentences in there if I tried to sound as stupid as possible. It honestly compares to some of the worst fanfiction I've ever come across - and that was written by untalented 13-year-olds (or younger).
Secondly, the autor stated he DID read the books and played the games and concluded that he is "proud of his work" and that he thinks the product is "great".

I wouldn't say we're overreacting because the lack of a response from Bioware up to this point(while this thread's been followed and monitored) tells us that it MUST matter to them now.
We got their attention.
Please stop repeating the same thing. There will be no reaction. What do you expect? That they addmit they allowed someone to slap their franchise? Even if anyone there feels that way, they are part of a corporation and can't say anything unless it's an officiall statement.
And there will be no official statement. Corporations do not apologize for bad products because they would have to addmit the product was bad.
Perhaps that's true and a realistic way to think about it. Problem is, when you start accepting, and start giving up...you get the same thing again.

Even if you get an official statement on anything it will be just a pile of hollow words to make feel better about yourself and shut up. Sad story. Realitypunch.

If this is true you can read that I accounted for this possibility. He's an idiot then.

Well, shutting up about isn't exactly going to solve the problem is it? If we want to have any chance of them fixing this, we have to show that we won't stand for these things. If it doesn't, well, that's all fine and good (not really), but at least I'll have a clear conscience.
I care about BioWare and what they do. Shutting up about this is doing them a disservice, in my opinion.
In other news, the vitriol is spreading to the Known Features Thread! Ooooh boy!

No sense arguing about it, but what you are writing is naive.

It may be naive to expect it, but not to fight for it. The naive expect it. The pragmatic accept it and wallow in misery. The rest fight for it.

Glad we can agree on something then. I was worried we'd actually start debating.

Hello all, this is my first post, but I couldn't stay quiet about this travesty that might enter ME canon. I respect Bioware greatly, but the first 50 or so pages were horrible. Dietz plays at best fast and loose with the canon, and the writing peaks at distinctly average. If Bioware doesn't decanonize this, this year might just see the apocalypse as a result of thousands of Mass Effect fans entering a Krogan blood rage and destroying the world along with the book! Ok, that last part was a joke, but I still hope this book isn't canon, and I am glad to do my part to support this movement. Keelah Se'lai!
Book's already been burnt, so...
I usually don't support the burning of books... but I understand why he did it and... BURN BABY BURN!

Deception pg 187
just as Leng was about to pee in the vase he had selected for that purpose, somthing happend. (two paragraphs of uninspired prose about an armored limo showing up, Kai Leng hypothesizing if its Aria showing up to work capped off by a particularly appropriate final sentance) All of which was entertaining but otherwise meaningless.
The limo left, the activity died down, and Leng was starting to think about his bladder again, when something strange occured. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, the krogan door guards turned and went inside. That piqued Leng's interest and caused him to re-center his cross hairs on the door.
Nothing happened at first. But then, seconds later, Gillian appeared. And she ran straight at him.
This is example is but one of the reasons why I feel Dietz is not fully excused from this train wreck.
edit - for formatting and left out the most important part... the vase!

I'm afraid he's an idiot either way, frankly, I am amazed that he gets any jobs at all with that kind of writing disability.

I'd say both +5 Paragon and +5 Renegade! We're not doing this just for the single purpose of bashing after all.

Of course I'm writing this with the assumption that mr. Dietz didn't read the books, didn't read the comics and didn't play the game... if he actually did and then wrote this, it means he truly is what this thread accuses him of being - an idiot.
If my assumption is true, this is a disgusting example of incompetence somewhere inside Electronic Arts, BioWare or whoever holds his hand on this franchise. Incompetence in a) not giving the person working on the novel a clear image of what he's doing, not supervising him during the process and finally, c) releasing it.
And they actually made him look bad, conveniently avoiding the outrage among fans they caused.
I believe I've read few a books from Dietz before. I don't really recall them being bad. Perhaps not great, but certainly nothing like this. I believe he wrote the Star Wars: Dark Forces novels and those were actually good as most Star Wars books go. If his writing was typically like this I don't think he'd have a profession as a writer honestly. Actually I'm far more inclined to believe the people who should have been helping him write this novel didn't. And or that he was forced to rush out the book. That or he's off his rocker for some reason.

You know I'm feeling a little sorry for Bioware. First Microsoft dun goofed with the leaks, now Dietz did this to them.
It's not entirely Dietz's work.
Bioware had creative control over much of what he wrote.
The final draft of the book was reviewed 'line by line' (in Dietz's words) by Casey Hudson and one of the other higher-ups, probably Mac Walters.
The prose is all Dietz, but the lore issues? Those are Bioware's responsibility.

He just thinks we shouldn't expect anything but corporate hay from Bioware.
Funny thing is, we've got our ways around that.
