This clip summarizes my feelings pretty well!

"What is this thing? I mean, it serves no useful purpose, I mean
we shouldn't have to do this, it makes no logical sense, why is it here?

"Cause it's Bioware wanted to make a quick buck"

""Well forget it! I'm not doing it! This episode  novel was badly written!"

Can we please keep the "ME3 Bashing" out of this thread and instead focus on the thing that we know with absolutely 100% certainty is total garbage? <_<

My friend, if you have been paying any attention at all, this should be a screaming, flashing preview at what ME3 will be like.

1. Dietz doesn't have a damn thing to do with Mass Effect 3. At ALL. (and thank god almighty)

2. I've read the leaks on ME3 personally and even the most questionable of plot points in the leaks are nothing, I repeat, NOTHING compared to the f***ing garbage that is Deception.

3. This thread is and should remain about the novel Deception and our efforts in the BSN community to remove it from official ME canon.

I also ask please! can we keep away from ME3 in this thread. I like many here are happy to discuss Deception and its faults. Keep any discussion of ME3 in another thread

still it does kind of damage my faith in ME3 if BioWare can green light this.

edit: ok, topic... The book shouldn't have been printed.

I'm about a quarter through it so far. I have to constantly re-write sentences in my head so I can accept it in the ME universe.  The scene on Thessia with Aria is particularly bad. This book causes me physical pain.  I can't type in sentences with more than one clause. Dietzzzzzzzz...

Did anybody else think Bioware were executing a MASSIVE crackdown during the maintenance?

I wonder whether BW will tell us that things in this book happened in an alternative universe :P

Maybe this is the twist of ME3: Shepard finds out there are plenty of alternate universes and (s)he should unite them to kill all reapers in all universes :)

If so Deception is the begining of that twist. :P

Other than that, nothing matters in the this novel to the plot of the ME universe, nothing - Anderson and Kahlee make no progress into investigating either Cerberus or the Reapers, the Council still actively dismisses the existence of the Reapers, there is no mention of the events of Arrival or the escalating tensions between the Alliance and the batarians over it, there is no active effort by Cerberus into any of their secret projects... none of the characters change or evolve, none of the conflicts previously established in other media are resolved, not a damn thing...

This is no "lead-in" to Mass Effect 3 as some of the developers claimed... there's nothing for it to lead anywhere!

Couldn't have put it better myself. Deception accomplishes nothing but killing off characters. It's bizarre. The rest of the universe is in a holding pattern while the protagonists from Karpyshyn's books meet ridiculous ends.

So, do you guys still truly believe that Bioware still gives a crap about the story and lore of Mass Effect?

Honest opinion? Nope.

True.

This is the most important post I've seen in a while. Literally, the book is pointless. Three characters, two of whom we have not seen since Ascension, are borught back by Dietz, for the sole purpose of killing them off 300 some pages later. To no descernable purpose. Nothing is gained by their deaths.

THE ENTIRE THING IS COMPLETELY MEANINGLESS.

Also this.

They are going to fix it with several Lazarus projects in the next book.

It's the Renegade option.

And how long did Nick actually know that Marisa girl for? Really?

OH MY GOD I JUST LOOKED THIS UP.

AFTER HE MEETS HER AND IMMEDIATLY KISSES HER AND FALLS IN LOVE WITH HER SHE IS LITERALLY NOT MENTIONED AGAIN UNTIL SHE IS KILLED.

I AM NOT KIDDING.

She's mentioned once by name in the book.

Hendel and Nick both died because of a character who had fewer references in Deception than the asari receptionist who greets people before Council appearances.

A book so bad it united the BSN.

^That should be added to the rest of the stuff that we decided would be on the back cover

We turned a huge negative into a huge positive.

A bad book into a bonding experience.

Hopefully Bioware can join us in the positive negativity.

Yes to both of these.
