I don't really want to put too much blame on Dietz. Obviously the errors are bad, but I'm sure Dietz was relying on Hudson et al. to make sure he didn't make too many errors, and if the creators of the game aren't pointing these things out I don't see why he'd feel the need to research further. Focusing on canon and arguments of quality aside, BioWare let Dietz down as much as us.

EDIT: Yes, this post was motivated by feeling bad after seeing quite a nice reply he sent to a disappointed fan. :innocent:

And Deception took the second highest rated comment on this.

Yay me.

It's started cropping up on news sites? Agooood

Only problem is some of it seems to be "lol look how crazy nerdy these Mass Effect fans are" - and the examples they gave here hardly the biggest or worst of the problems - the fact that some of the errors in the book are rather offensive has been lost.

Ah well, bad press is bad press

I just really hope that these dead characters will stay dead in ME3, and future media. having them appear after being killed, would be the ultimate ****up.

Well, unless they disavow the novel as canon...then it would make sense. :pinched:

But I highly doubt that's happening.

I'm still not over how painful reading that excerpt was. I've NEVER had to force myself to read 50 pages like that. Not even when I read The Grapes of Wrath.

@ Kiryu - There's any press besides bad press? XD

Still, you shouldn't write a novel for a franchise without doing extensive research, and I mean EXTENSIVE research, especially if following up on someone else's story.

Problem is, this novel seems rushed, like they wanted it out before ME3.

Well Deception technically was delayed alongside ME3. So that's another two months or more to polish it up.

Aaaand nothing.

Imagine the mess it would have been if it hadn't been delayed...or maybve dietz just spent it drinking tequila raking it in.

It was probably done already and the push back was soley for the release timing. Dietz was probably onto somehting else by then.

I find it ironic your screen name is CashGrab. How appropriately ironic.

I'm still at a loss. How? HOW?

He must have shot straight through it in record time, thrown the manuscript at his publisher and zoomed off on a scooter waving his check maniacally.

I'm still hoping between this and the leaked script - its BioWare pulling off the ultimate troll so everyone is blown away by the end quality of ME3.

TIM telling Leng to get surgery

Honestly, I think the surgery and the deaths were the entire point of the novel. That, and making sure we know Cerberus is doing Reaper experiments on their troops.

It's been kinda lost in the flood of angry and frustrated people, but remember that this was meant to have some tie-ins to ME3.

Ithink 'explaining how Kai Leng is cybernetically enhanced' and 'explaining how Cerberus troops are all indoctrinated as Reaper drones' was part of Deception's raison d'etre. The deaths might've just been a convenient way to wrap-up the novel series. Or Dietz trying to introduce drama. WUGH.

He has other books he cares more about writing and releasing, if you check his site.

Heh, I BETTER be blown away by ME3. Bioware's looking bad right now in the eyes of many.

Hope they can salvage some good from this wreckage.

Not to mention that was pretty much obvious since early release info about ME3 - or at the very least something along those lines.

You know you don't need to make a new post every time you want to reply to somebody... surely combining a bunch of replies or comments in one would  be better.

The Amazon 3* review says he's not a hack and claims the only things wrong with it are the quality of writing and it being rushed. When you take into account that (s)he probably wouldn't see lore inconsistencies, all becomes clear.
